Zhang Shunyong, a deputy of the two sessions (两会代表) in 2024, suggests that life education should be included in school courses.
“Life education is so important for teenagers because they are one of the weakest groups in society and thousands of students in China are facing mental (心理的) problems,” said Wang Xinhong, a teacher at Shenzhen Middle School.
“As the Internet connects every part of their life, it’s harmful to teenagers’ mental health in some ways because they are receiving different values and facing more unsure situations. This makes them feel tired out,” she added.
Wang has been active in leading the team to practice life education for over ten years. Since 2004, Shenzhen Middle School has made life education a course and has opened“Life Education Week” every year. The week has different themes and activities. In 2015, the school started a Failure Museum, which encouraged students to face, share and learn from their failures.
Wang has great views from her rich experience in solving the mental problems of teenagers. “I believe the key to life education lies in guiding teenagers to manage relationsh ps properly,” said Wang. “Whether they can manage the relationships with humans, nature and even the Internet plays an important role in their mental health.”
Although more schools are providing life education, they are still facing a challenge: how to let students experience it personally instead of only telling them. Wang suggests that more activities should be planned.
“We are looking forward to setting up a united (联合的) system for life education connecting families, schools, communities and hospitals to work together for the happiness of teenagers,” said Wang.

As usual, Amber was hurrying to catch the yellow school bus. Luckily the traffic lights turned green as she was to cross the road, so she made it. When the bus passed the golden arches (拱形门)of McDonald’s, they reminded her of a hamburger. She hadn’t had breakfast that morning because the fruit salad on the blue dish didn’t look delicious at all. However, Amber remembered that she was still on a diet. So now she was really in a black mood.
You may have noticed that several colours were used in the above story so as to help describe Amber’s morning. In fact, colours influence your life more than you can ever imagine. Take language for example: You may describe a sick person as being “a bit green”. To describe a depressed(沮丧的)person, you say that the person is “feeling blue”. In short, colours do add interest to daily conversations.
Besides, colours can be used in many parts of your daily life. Have you ever thought about why many school buses and taxis are painted yellow, and stop signs are painted red Since yellow is the most eye-catching colour, it can catch people’s attention, especially in heavy traffic. As for red, it is the colour which usually shows warning; as a result, some traffic signs use this colour. For the same reason, hot-water taps are usually marked red.
The colours of a dining environment possibly decide how much you eat. Most fast-food restaurants are often decorated in bright colours such as red, yellow, orange and white for the purpose of increasing people’s appetite (胃口). This is because bright colours are natural colours found in many foods, and able to raise people’s spirits. Blue, in comparison with bright colours, is said to lower people’s appetite because few foods are blue in nature. For those who are on a diet, blue dishes and bowls might help!
“Morning, Amber! What happened You look a bit green,” said Violet, Amber’s best friend.
“Nothing...just feeling...blue,”said Amber.
“Hey! Come to my place tonight. Do you know what I just bought A wii! It’s red-hot. ”
Amber was tickled pink to have the chance to play with the wii and said, “Sounds great!”
4. According to the passage, if you are on a diet, _____ might help.
A. putting your food in a blue dish or bowl
B. turning on a yellow light during the meal
C. painting the walls of the dining room white
D. covering the dining table with an orange cloth
5. Most school buses are painted yellow because _____.
A. it tells other drivers to prepare to stop
B. it helps bus drivers stay in a good mood
C. it can easily catch other people’s attention
D. it is the colour that most schoolchildren like
6. Which of the following statements is true
A. Amber looked ill when Violet saw her first.
B. Amber ate up all her fruit salad in the morning.
C. Amber refused to go to Violet’s house in the end.
D. Amber didn’t catch the school bus and was late for school.

When my friend first suggested we should join the new Tai Chi Club at school, I hesitated (犹豫). I always believed tai chi was for old people.
The first few tai chi classes were fun and easy, and the moves really made me interested. But after that, I found myself bored from doing the same moves over and over again. Luckily, my coach taught me how to relax myself and focus (关注) on peace of mind while doing it. With these in mind, I found my balance slowly improved and I was able to do more difficult moves. My love for tai chi returned stronger than ever.
In time, I began to look into the Chinese culture behind tai chi. I discovered that playing tai chi is to keep the balance of yin and yang in the body through opposite movements: forwards and backwards, up and down, breathing in and breathing out. Finally, tai chi brings about body balance and mind peace.
After taking tai chi classes, however, I had to say that I had been wrong about tai chi. It was amazing! A year of practising tai chi has had a good influence on my everyday life. I sleep better at night, and I am more lively during the day. I’m sure I will continue to practise tai chi.

During the past seven years, I visited countries that were in need of clean water. And I met some of the most inspiring (鼓舞人心的) people I’ve ever known.
By the time I reached my first village in Mozambique (莫桑比克), a small crowd had already gathered around the water point to meet me. These people were eager to talk about the difference clean water had made in their community.
At the front of the crowd, I met Natalia, a 15-year-old girl. Access to (获得) clean water enabled (使能够) her to have better health. She could spend more time in school. As a result, she became better educated than many of her fellow villagers.
I asked Natalia’s mother what she expected of her daughter’s future. “My dream is for Natalia to become a teacher,” she said proudly. Natalia happened to hear our conversation. And she turned around to say, “I don’t want to be just a teacher. I want to be the headteacher.”
Many people I met in Mozambique told me that water is life. Having access to clean water would immediately improve health. Healthier families would save money on hospital bills. Healthier kids would spend more time in school. Like Natalia, they would have bigger dreams as well as better opportunities.
Yet 748 million people on this planet don’t have access to clean water. Every morning, they stand in line in front of a muddy hole in the ground. They carry dirty water all the way home and serve it to the people they love most. They keep suffering from stomach pains.
You and I just got lucky to be born in places where we’ve never had to worry about finding clean water.
