一、whether/if引导的宾语从句
“是否”表达不确定的概念时,从句就要用 whether 或 if 来引导,不能用 that。
一般情况下,whether与if可以互换使用。但if常用于口语,whether则多用于书面语。
Do you know whether/if she is a nurse
She asked me whether/if I could help her with her English.
Grammar- whether/if及疑问词引导的宾语从句
只用 whether 不用 if 的四种情况
1. 与 or not 连用时
I don’t know whether or not he will come on time.
2. 从句用作介词宾语时
I am interested in whether he will join the army.
3.在带 to 的动词不定式前
She doesn’t know whether to go to the cinema or to watch TV at home.
4. 当宾语从句移至句首表示强调时
Whether this is ture or not, I am not sure.
二、疑问词引导的动词的宾语从句
1. 连接代词what(什么)、who(谁)、whose(谁的)、which(哪个)、whom(谁)引导宾语从句
● e.g. I don't know what he is going to do. 我不知道他打算做什么。
● e.g. I don't know who took the money. 我不知道谁拿走了钱。
2. 连接副词where(何地)、when(何时)、why(为何)、how(如何)引导宾语从句
● e.g. I don't know where she goes. 我不知道她去哪儿。
● e.g. I don't know when she leaves. 我不知道她什么时候离开。
● e.g. I don't know why she leaves. 我不知道她为什么离开。
● e.g. I don't know how she finds him. 我不知道她怎么找到她的。

Possible answer:
I met Peter in primary school. We found ourselves sitting next to each other. At first we were just friends at school, but as we grew older, we started doing other things to get him. We would spend time at each other’s houses at the weekend, and our parents took us a way on holiday together. We were like brothers almost.
But then we went to differnent junior high school and we didn’t see each other very often. But then one evening when I joined a new football club, I found Peter in the club. So we started practising together twice a week, and later playing in the same team. In fact, we built a great goal-scoring partnership, probably because we knew each other so well. I think we’ll still be close friends in the future.
