Ancient Silk Road
At least 2,000 years ago, merchants began to travel along the Silk Road to trade goods. Among all the goods, silk was the most expensive and special thing. The Silk Road connected China, India, Central Asia, the Middle East, and parts of Africa and Europe.

It got its name because a lot of the trade along the road was in Chinese silk.

The road is remarkable firstly because it lasted around 1,700 years, from the Han Dynasty until the Ming Dynasty. Secondly, it was a unique and important cultural crossroads between the East and West.

China’s Belt and Road Initiative
It is a global infrastructure (基础设施) development strategy adopted by the Chinese government in 2013 to invest in nearly 70 countries and international organizations. Belt and Road is exactly what it says it is -a plan based around two core arteries(干线): the Silk Road Economic Belt (丝绸之路经济开发带) and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road (海上丝绸之路).

These pictures show Chinese and foreigners studying, exercising and doing business together, as well as a group of foreign tourists exploring China. In the first picture, a foreign student and two Chinese students are walking through their school; in the second picture, a foreign boy and a Chinese boy are doing tai chi, a traditional Chinese sport; in the third picture, a group of tourists are walking on the Great Wall; the last picture shows a foreign businessman is shaking hands with a Chinese one.
