Success Comes with a High EQ
Most students do an IQ(Intelligence Quotient test early in their school life. Even if they never see their results, they feel that their IQ is what determines how well they are going to
do in life. When they see other students doing better than them, they usually believe that those students have a higher IQ and that there is nothing they can do to change their situation. However, new research into EQ(Emotional Quotient)suggests that success is not simply the result of a high IQ.

While your IQ tells you how intelligent you are, your EQ tells you how well you use your intelligence. Professor Salovey, who invented the term EQ,gives the following description:at work,it is IQ that gets you employed, but it is EQ that gets you promoted. Supported by his research,Professor Salovey suggests that when predicting someone’s future success, their character,as measured by EQ tests, might actually matter more than their IQ.

句中的“it is IQ that…”和“it is EQ that…”
(1)强调句的陈述式为“It is (was)+被强调部分+that (who)…”。
It is not who is right but what is right that is of importance.
I saw Tom in the park this morning.
→It was I who/that saw Tom in the park this morning.
→It was Tom that/whom I saw in the park this morning. (强调宾语)→It was in the park that I saw Tom this morning.
→It was this morning that I saw Tom in the park.

2.(P9)It is generally believed that people with high EQs are open to new ideas and have positive attitudes towards life.
本句使用了“It be+v. -ed+that从句”结构,在英语中,在不便或不必指明具体看法、说法或消息的来源时,往往使用“It be+v. -ed+that从句”结构,在此结构中It是形式主语,that从句为真正的主语。
It is believed that…=People believe that…=Sb. /Sth. is believed to do sth.
It is/was said that… 据说……
It is/was thought that…
It is/was reported that…
It is/was hoped that…
It is/was suggested that…
3.(P9) On the other hand, there is little doubt that people with low EQs often have problems getting on with other people and dealing with difficult situations; hence they have a harder time adjusting in life and in their careers.
“There is little doubt that…”意为“毫无疑问……”,相当于“There’s no doubt that…”,否定句用that引导同位语从句。
