课时6 写作:A soldier’s story
PPT 内容 旁白
首页 Hi, everyone. Nice to see you again. Do you remember the game ‘Who am I’ Now, guess who I am. I’m from Greece. I work for the Greek army. I stayed in the horse with five other soldiers. Yes. I’m one of the six Greek soldiers.
目标 In today’s lesson, we will pretend to be one of the six soldiers and write about the experience. And we will learn how to make your writing vivid.
写前复习 Since you are going to pretend to be one of the soldiers hiding inside the horse, let’s review the story, the night of the horse. Answer the questions on the screen. Let’s start with an easy one. How many soldiers were inside the horse Six soldiers were inside the horse. 2. When did they climb out of the horse An hour after midnight, they climbed out of the horse. 3. How did they open the secret door They opened the secret door very quietly. 4. What did they do after climbing out They opened the main gates of the city. The six Greek soldiers were brave and their story deserved to be told to Greek people over and over again.
写前情境 Now imagine you were one of the six soldiers inside the wooden horse. After the war, your story was very popular. After telling it hundreds of times, you were asked to write about it. Before starting to write, you need to think about what to include in your writing. 【停顿】Which of them will you choose 【停顿】Of course, you will tell the events you experienced. And the readers may have information gap. It’s likely that they may have no idea of the Trojan War at all. So, it’s a good idea to introduce the background at the beginning of your story to fill the gap. Since you are going to write mainly about your experience, I don’t think it is necessary to write about the things you are not sure of, like the events others might experience or the purpose of other peoples’ actions. And it’s not a good idea to include too many thoughts or opinions about the Trojan War. Since we’ve made up our mind, let’s get started.
填空背景 First, let’s complete the background information about the war and that night. Take out your worksheet and finish task one. Let’s start. 【练习1.5分钟】 Let’s check the answers. We tried to capture Troy for ten years, but failed. And then we thought of a trick. We built a huge wooden horse and left it outside the main gates. Our army disappeared, but they didn’t go far away. Then the Greeks saw the horse but they didn’t know that five other soldiers and I were inside the horse. When we write about our past experience, we should write it in the first person and in the past tense.
选择事件 After introducing the background information, you are going to write about the events you experienced. Look at the seven events. Which of them will you choose and why 【思考0.5分钟】 When I choose the events, I always ask myself whether I experienced them or not. In this case, I will not choose the first two events because when I was inside the horse, it was impossible for me to hear anything the captain and the soldier talked about. I can choose number 3 because I could feel the horse moving when I was inside. Similarly, I could hear the Trojan citizens celebrating outside. I will definitely write about number 5. That’s the most important thing I did that night. And later I witnessed how our army captured the city of Troy. Do you agree with me
叙述事件 Now, please write about the five events. On your worksheet, write one sentence for each event. Let’s start. 【写作2分钟】
事件呈现 Let’s take a look at how my student Andy writes about the event. The Trojans dragged the horse inside the city. The Trojans celebrated around the horse and made jokes about us. We opened the secret door and climbed out. We opened the main gates and our army entered the city. We seized the captain of Troy and won the war. Andy writes about the events in the first person and in the past tense. It’s good that he mentions the Trojans’ jokes, which builds a connection to “us”. Since the five events are organized in the time order, we can add adverbs, adverbial phrases or sentences to show their connection, like this. Late that night, the Trojans celebrated around the horse and made jokes about us. It tells us when the event took place. After the square was quiet, we waited an hour to be sure. We opened the secret door and climbed out. It tells us how careful the soldiers were. Then, we opened the main gates and our army entered the city. Then is used to show the order of the events. Of course, there are many other ways to show the order of the events. Among all of the five events you write about, which of them would you like to rewrite with more details I will choose the third event without hesitation because it’s something I did myself and it’s something that I’m proud of.
添加细节 Now let’s think about what details we can describe. It’s very important to use your sense to help you. You can write about what you saw, what you heard, how you did something, how you felt and what you or others said. Let’s look at an example. After the square was quiet, we waited an hour to be sure. We opened the secret door and climbed out. How can we add details to this event Since the square was quiet, I can say I couldn’t hear anything from the outside. That’s what I heard. Our group leader said, ‘Let’s wait one more hour. Just be sure that the Greeks all went to sleep.’ By writing about what the leader said, readers will have a better understanding of why they waited another hour. I felt nervous before opening the secret door. That’s how I felt. I opened the door carefully, trying not to make any noise. That’s how I opened the door. I saw the square was empty and the gates were not even guarded. That’s what I saw. It’s not that difficult to add details, right
练习 Now, let’s have a try. Choose one of the events and add some details. Write them on your worksheet. Let’s start. 【写作2分钟】
练习呈现 Let’s take a look at Andy’s writing. Late that night, the Trojans celebrated around the horse. I heard them singing and dancing happily. Later, we heard that they were making jokes about us and calling us stupid Greeks. I was very angry and the group leader said, ‘Calm down. We’ll let them know who are stupid.’ Andy writes about what they heard, how he felt and what the group leader said. The details are believable. We do feel angry when our enemies make jokes about us.
产出 Let’s have a brief summary. When we write about our past experience, we should write it in the first person and in the past tense. We should introduce the background and tell the events we experienced in the time order. And don’t forget to add some details to make your writing better. Now suppose you are the Trojan soldier in the story, the night of the horse. Write about your experience on the worksheet. Let’s start. 【写作3分钟】
产出呈现 Once again, let’s look at Andy’s writing. The Greeks have tried for ten years to capture our city but they failed. One day, when I was on guard, I found the plain and the sea were empty. I reported to the captain immediately. On the high wall of the city, our captain told us that we had won and the Greeks had left a huge horse to us. ‘But why is it on wheels ’ I asked without hesitation. I thought it wasn’t that simple. But the captain just ordered me to pull the horse. I was angry inside, but as a soldier, I had no choice but to obey the order. Andy introduces the background information at the beginning. He tells the events step by step. He writes about what he saw, how he reported to the captain, what he said, what he thought and how he felt. Well done!
评价表 You can use this checklist to evaluate your own writing. Do I introduce the background and tell the events Do I use details I hope you do.
作业 As today’s homework, you can finally write about your own experience. Have a good day. Bye.
