I was walking along ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) Orchard Road when I realized a tall young man wearing a jacket and tie was following me. I noticed him because not many people wear jacket and tie in the middle of a hot summer day, and I had already seen this man four times that afternoon.
To make sure he was following me, I walked on quickly, turned right into a shopping center and then stopped to look in a shop window. Soon, the man appeared and stopped at another shop window. I walked on and stopped several times. When I stopped, he stopped, too.
I began to be ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )rather worried and decided to try to lose this strange man. When I saw a taxi coming, I jumped into it. As I was telling the taxi where to go, I found the man got into another taxi, which then followed mine. As the two taxies slowly made their way along Orchard Road, I looked back at the taxi behind, and saw that the stranger was looking out at me.
At MRT statio ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )n, I told the taxi driver to stop and I got out. As I was paying my fare, I saw the man was getting out of his taxi.
By now I got angry, s ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )o I turned and walked straight to him. I asked him why he was following me. At first he said he was not following me at all, but when I threatened to call the police, he admitted he was. He then told me that he was a journalist and that he was writing an article on how elderly people in the United States spent their time. Tokyo is one of those ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) places that you can love and hate at the same time.
In Tokyo there are ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )always too many people in the places where I want to be. Of course there are too many cars. The Japanese drive very fast when they can. But in Tokyo they often spend a long time in traffic jams. Tokyo is not different when one wants to walk.
At certain times ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )of the day there are a lot of people on foot in London’s Oxford Street. But the streets near Ginza in Tokyo always have a lot of people on foot, and sometimes it is really difficult to walk. People are very polite; there are just too many of them.
The worst time t ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )o be in the street is at 11:30 at night. That is when the night-clubs are closing and everybody wants to go home. There are 35,000 night-clubs in Tokyo, and you do not often see one that is empty.
Most people travel to and from work by train. Tokyo people buy six million train tickets every day. At most stations, trains arrive every two or three minutes, but at certain hours there do not seem to be enough trains. Although they are usually crowded, Japanese trains are very good. They always leave and arrive on time. On a London train you would see everybody reading a newspaper. In Tokyo trains everybody in a seat seems to be asleep, whether his journey is long or short.
In Tokyo, I stood o ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )utside the station for five minutes. Three fire-engines raced past on the way to one of the many fires that Tokyo has every day. Tokyo has so many surprises that none of them can really surprise me now. Instead, I am surprised at myself: I must go there next year on business. I know I hate the overcrowded city, but I feel like a man who is returning to his long-lost love.
76 Tokyo is different from London in that _______.
A. it has a smaller population
B. it is an international city
C. it is more difficult to go somewhere on foot in Tokyo
D. its people are more friendly and busier
77 What time does ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) the writer think is the worst time to go into the street

B. At 8 o’clock in the morning.
C. When the train is overcrowded
D. When it is time for people to go back home from work.
78 What does the writer say about Japanese trains
A. They are very nice and comfortable
B. There are never enough trains.
C. They often run behind schedule.
D. They leave and arrive at the right time.
79. The writer hates Tokyo mainly because the city ______.
A. is dirty and the people are impolite
B. has been seriously polluted
C. is crowded and noisy
D. is not modern enough
80. Which of the f ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ollowing sentences best means the same as the last sentence in the passage

B. In Tokyo there are always too many people in the places where I want to be.
C. Tokyo ha ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )s so many surprises that none of them can really surprise me now.

The festival ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )officially starts in January 5th every year, but the locals begin to celebrate the festival in the third week of December of the previous year because most of the ice lanterns, ice and snow sculptures are completed by this time. Origin and History of the Ice and Snow Festival
As early as 1980s, the ice lanterns in Harbin were known by many tourists from all over China. The local interesting winter activities and sports made the ice city more lively in winter. The local unique snow and cultural activities have always been subject of the government’s attention. Especially, when the officers of the Harbin Municipal Party Committee met the tourists from Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau, They found that their guests were very crazy about Harbin’s ice lanterns, ice culture, winter activities and snow; they had an idea for holding the ice and snow festival to promote Harbin’s tourism. In Oct.1983 the officers approached Harbin Municipal Party Committee with a suggestion. After more than a year’s effort, the suggestion was accepted by both Harbin Municipal Government and Heilongjiang Provincial Government. On Jan 5th 1885 the first Ice Lantern Show was declared open at Zhaoling Park. At the same time, the government announced the annual Ice and Snow Festival starts at Jan 5 and last about 2-3 months.
