情态动词 may / might
1.区 别
might 是 may 的过去式,但表示可能性时没有很大区别,只是表示一般将来的可能性时,might 比 may 的可能性要小。所以might表示较多的怀疑,更加不肯定,语气更委婉。
【注意】
might常作may的替换词,既可表示现在时间,也可表示将来时间。
2.句式用法
may 和 might 均可用于肯定句和否定句中, 两者的否定形式,
均在后面直接加not。
may/might 可以表示请求,可用于主语是第一人称的一般疑问句,
对 “May I.. ”
1) 这类问句作肯定回答时, 除了用Yes, you may.之外, 还有更温和的
回答方式: Yes, please. ;
2) 在作否定回答时,除了No,you may not.或No, you mustn't. 之外,
还有更有礼貌的回答方式: I am sorry./ I'd rather you didn't./
I am afraid not. /You'd better not.
表示可能的方式有很多,除使用情态动词may / might、
副词probably以外, 还可以使用maybe / perhaps和possibly 。
【注意】
perhaps和maybe指“或许”,其可能性大致为一半;
possibly仅指“也许” “有可能”, 其可能性低于一半。
maybe比perhaps更口语化, 且要用于句首;
perhaps可用于句末、句中、句首。
probably是副词,意思是“大概;或许;很可能” , 其可能性
超过一半。
(probably>perhaps=maybe>possibly)

The Amazon Rainforest
The Amazon Rainforest is one of the wettest places in the world. It has more than 200 cm of rain every year.
