My name is Alice. Early last year, I was troubled by an anxiety that crippled ( 削弱 ) my ability to do anything. I felt like a storm cloud hung over me. For almost a year I struggled on, constantly staring at this wall that faced me. My perfectionist tendencies were the main root of this: I wanted to be perfect at whatever I did, which obviously in life is not possible, but it consumed me.
One day, I attended a presentation by wildlife conservationist Grant Brown at my high school. His presentation not only awed and inspired me, but also helped emerge an inner desire to make a difference in the world. I joined a pre-presentation dinner with him and that smaller setting allowed me to slowly build up my courage to speak one-on-one with him—an idea that had seemed completely impossible. This first contact was where my story began.
A month later, Brown invited me to attend the World Youth Wildlife Conference. Looking back, I now see that this would be the first in a series of timely opportunities that my old self would have let pass, but that this new and more confident Alice enthusiastically seized. Shortly after I received his invitation, applications to join the Youth for Nature and the Youth for Planet groups were sent around through my high school. I decided to commit to completing the applications, and soon I was a part of a growing global team of young people working to protect nature. Each of these new steps continued to grow my confidence.
I am writing this just six months since my journey began and I’ve realised that my biggest obstacle ( 障碍 ) this whole time was myself. It was that voice in the back of my head telling me that one phrase that has stopped so many people from reaching their potential: I can’t. They say good
things come to those who wait; I say: grab every opportunity with everything you have and be impatient. After all, nature does not require our patience, but our action.
24.What was the main cause for Alice’s anxiety
A.Her inability to act her age. B.Her habit of consumption.
C.Her desire to be perfect. D.Her lack of inspiration.
25.How did Grant Brown’s presentation influence Alice
A.She decided to do something for nature. B.She tasted the sweetness of friendship.
C.She learned about the harm of desire. D.She built up her courage to speak up.
26.The activities Alice joined in helped her to become more ________.
A.intelligent B.confident C.innovative D.critical
27.What can we learn from this passage
A.Practice makes perfect. B.Patience is a cure of anxiety.
C.Action is worry’s worst enemy. D.Everything comes to those who wait.

Brushing your teeth effectively lowers your chances of getting a host of chronic diseases, as well as keeping your teeth and gums (牙龈) healthy. But the majority of us are doing it wrong.
In Sweden, one study found as few as one in 10 people practice the best brushing technique. The British health insurer Bupa found that almost half of respondents did not know how to brush their teeth properly in a survey of 2,000 people in the UK.
So what exactly are most of us getting wrong, and how can we change our routine to make sure we brush our teeth effectively Here’s how to properly brush your teeth, according to experts.
“Lots of patients understand that what they need to do is remove food remains,” says Josefine Hirschfeld, associate professor and specialist in restorative dentistry at the University of Birmingham in the UK. “That is only partially true. It’s much more important to remove bacteria from the teeth.” These bacteria and other microorganisms grow inside everyone’s mouth, and form a sticky biofilm commonly known as dental plaque (牙菌斑). It is made up of around 700 different species of bacteria, the second-greatest diversity in the human body after the gut, as well as a host of fungi and viruses. “They are living in the sticky film stuck to the teeth and also to the soft tissues,” says Hirschfeld. “This sticky film can't be easily rinsed off — it really needs to be manually cleaned.”
The most important place to remove it from is not in fact the teeth, but the gum. This is where microbes are best able to sink the gum tissue and do damage to teeth. In fact, “brushing your teeth” is something of a misnomer. “Think of brushing your gum, rather than the teeth themselves,” says Hirschfeld. “The teeth will then be brushed automatically.”
Brushing too hard, especially with a firmer-bristled brush, can cause injury to the gums. Small tears in the soft tissue caused by overzealous brushing are an opportunity for bacteria to enter the bloodstream. And grating the brush’s bristles over the enamel can wear tiny grooves in the tooth, which add up to significant erosion over time.
28.When brushing teeth most people’s practices are __________.
A.healthy B.effective C.faulty D.uncertain
29.The majority of patients hold the view that _________.
A.They are practicing the best brushing skills
B.Bacteria and microorganisms are not common inside their mouths
C.It’s the most important to remove the sticky film from the gum
D.The aim of brushing teeth is to remove food remains
30.What does the underlined word “overzealous” in paragraph 6 probably mean
A.Attentive. B.Overdone. C.Overlooked. D.Slight.
31.What should we bear in mind so as to brush our teeth appropriately
A.When our gum is brushed, our teeth is cleaned together.
B.It’s much more important to remove food remains from the teeth .
C.The greater care we take to brush our teeth, the healthier the teeth will be.
D.Dental plaque containing species of bacteria only exists on teeth.

Last week, I sent the same request to ChatGPT, the latest artificial-intelligence chatbot from OpenAI. “Upon the Firth of Forth, a bridge doth stand,” it began. In less than a minute, the program had created in full a rhyming Shakespearean sonnet (莎士比亚十四行诗). Tools like ChatGPT seem poised to change the world of poetry — and so much else — but poets also have a lot to teach us about artificial intelligence. If algorithms (算法) are getting good at writing poetry, it’s partially because poetry was always an algorithmic business.
Even the most rebellious (叛逆的) poets follow more rules than they might like to admit. When schoolchildren are taught to imitate the structure of sonnet, they are effectively learning to follow algorithmic constraints. Should it surprise us that computers can do so, too
But considering how ChatGPT works, its ability to follow the rules for sonnets seems a little
more impressive. No one taught it these rules. It is based on a newer kind of AI known as a large language model (LLM). To put it simply, LLMs analyze large amounts of human writing and learn to predict what the next word in a string of text should be, based on context. One frequent criticism of LLMs is that they do not understand what they write; they just do a great job of guessing the next word.
When a private verse by Dickinson makes us feel like the poet speaks directly to us, we are experiencing the effects of a technology called language. Poems are made of paper and ink — or, these days, electricity and light. There is no one “inside” a Dickinson poem any more than one by ChatGPT. Of course, every Dickinson poem reflects her intention to create meaning. When ChatGPT puts words together, it does not intend anything. Some argue that writings by LLMs therefore have no meaning, only the appearance of it. If I see a cloud in the sky that looks like a giraffe, I recognize it as an accidental similarity. In the same way, this argument goes, we should regard the writings of ChatGPT as merely imitating real language, meaningless and random as cloud shapes.
When I showed my friends the sonnet by ChatGPT, they called it “soulless and barren.” Despite following all the rules for sonnets, the poem is predictable. But is the average sonnet by a human any better If we now expect computers to write not just poems but good poems, then we have set a much higher bar.
32.What is the main idea of paragraph 1 and paragraph 2
A.ChatGPT will make a difference to poetry based on algorithms.
B.There is no doubt that AI can copy the grammatical rules of poetry.
C.Poetry guidelines provide a possibility for AI’s poetry writing.
D.There is a similarity between algorithms and poetry.
33.How does ChatGPT write poems
A.ChatGPT is trained to follow the rules by LLMs.
B.ChatGPT can analyze and predict human languages.
C.ChatGPT is technologically supported by LLMs.
D.ChatGPT itself learn to follow the rules.
34.Why does the author mention Dickinson and cloud in paragraph 4
A.He talks about cloud to describe the meaninglessness of AI’s poetry.
B.He tells of Dickinson to describe the meaninglessness AI’s poetry.
C.He mentions cloud to suggest its close relationship with AI’s poetry.
D.He refers to Dickinson to suggest her close relationship with AI’s poetry.
35.Which of the following can best describe the author’s attitude towards AI poetry
A.Acceptable and favorable B.Amazed and admiring
C.Indifferent and uncaring D.Doubtful and uneasy
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
More parental investment; slower children’s growth
Are teenagers less likely to participate in activities associated with adulthood because they’re busier with homework and extracurricular activities Researchers found that time spent on homework and extracurricular activities has declined among 10th graders. It’s remained relatively steady among 12th graders. 36 This might account for some of the changes. In fact, one documentary labeled today’s teens as “screenagers”. Greater parental investment leads to teens growing up more slowly because parents supervise children and teens more carefully and organize their activities.
The study researchers also found an association between a slower developmental trajectory and smaller family size, higher parental age at first birth, and higher median income. With fewer children and more money, parents can invest more time and resources in their kids. 37
There are also economic factors. With shifts in the economy, more people go to college and are dependent on their parents for longer. 38 18-to 29-years-olds spend more time getting educated, marrying later, and having children later than previous generations.
39 On the upside, teens are less likely to engage in risky behaviors. They’re more likely to wait until they’re ready to participate in adult activities. 40 Today’s students may be sharp academically, but they often have trouble with basics like time management, making their own decisions and leading independent lives.
A.There are benefits and drawbacks to the decline in adult activities among adolescents.
B.It helps children enjoy a life with more material richness.
C.On the other hand, Internet usage has increased.
D.This may allow them to follow a slower developmental path.
E.On the downside, it poses an obstacle to teens’ all-round deveolopment.
F.More money is needed to cover their education.
G.That also gives rise to more careful parenting with the idea that education will last longer.

No one knows exactly whether they liked it better in spring or in winter. They used to pretend that they were travelers exploring a new country with lush vegetation (茂盛的草木) and bright yellow daffodils (水仙花) dotting the field, and would drop leaves on the road that they might find their way back again. Everything seemed amazing and appealing.
When the ice was thick and firm, they went across the pond. But their mother did not like to have them do this unless someone was with them.
“Don’t go across the pond today, children,” she said, as she kissed them and bade them goodbye one morning. “It is beginning to melt. It can be dangerous.”
“All right, mother,” said David, though not very good-naturedly, for he was very fond of running and sliding on the ice.
When they came to the pond, the ice looked hard and safe. “There,” said he to his sister, “I knew it hadn’t melted any. Mother is always afraid we shall be e along, and we will have a good time sliding. The school bell will not ring for an hour at least.”
“But you promised mother,” said Susan.
“No, I didn’t. I only said ‘All right,’ and it is all right,” said David, holding his head high.
“Oh, well, I didn’t say anything; so I can do as I like,” said Susan. So, they stepped on the ice without any delay, and started to go across the pond merrily. They had not gone far before the ice gave way, and they fell into the chilly water all at once.
“Help! Help!” they both cried for help in panic.

应用文写作(分15分)
The Internet is becoming more and more popular. However, the Internet has its advantages and disadvantages.
On one hand, the Internet plays an important part in our daily life. It makes our lives more convenient. We can get the most updated information. We can download software, documents and images whenever we need them. On the other hand, surfing the Internet also caused all sorts of problems. Identity theft is a common and serious problem. What’s worse, Internet addition does harm to physical and mental health.
In my opinion, as long as we control ourselves properly, we should make good use of the Internet and it will be our useful helper.
读后续写(满分25分)
A man who was at work near the shore heard the screams of the children. Sensing something urgent, he turned to the direction where the screams came, only to find the two kids struggling in the water. Without any hesitation, the man dashed to the scene, dived into the freezing pond, swam towards the two kids like an arrow, and managed to reach them in the nick of time. Hardly had the man seized David and Susan when he began to alleviate their panic and dragged them all the way to the shore. Thanks to his timely help, the two children narrowly escaped drowning. Totally worn-out and speechless with shock, they lay on the shore, shivering with coldness for quite a while. Consciousness regained, David and Susan expressed their gratitude to the man for saving their lives and headed back home.
David and Susan went home almost frozen. At the sight of the two kids’ awful
appearance, their mother knew the story at once. Much to their astonishment, she showed no sign of anger but a concerned look, asking them to change the wet clothes quickly and then wrapping them into her arms tightly to keep them warm. Pale faces turning red gradually, the two kids got back in form. David realizing his action almost killed himself and his sister, regretful tears rolled down his cheeks. “Had it not been for my recklessness, we wouldn’t have suffered the accident. I’m sorry to have put you in danger, Susan.” “No, it is also my fault. I’m terribly sorry, mum. We didn’t mean to worry you." Their mother patted them on their shoulder and forgave them for their courage to admit all the faults. Snowflakes still dancing outside, a ripple of warmth surged through them, though, giving them a blossoming spring!
