Kangkang: Look, it says the world has a population of 7.2 billion. And it is
increasing by 82 million every year.
Maria: Mmm, that’s really a lot. Which country has the largest population
Kangkang: China has the largest population. It has already reached 1.36 billion,
and India is second with 1.27 billion.
Maria: What’s the population of the USA
Kangkang: 323 million.
(Kangkang is reading a report on population in the newspaper.)
Maria: Oh, I see. It shows that the population in developing countries is
larger than that in developed countries, doesn’t it
Kangkang: Yes, What’s more, the population in developing countries is
growing faster.
Maria: So it is. The population problem has become more serious in
developing countries.
Kangkang: Luckily, China has already carried out some policies to solve the
problem.

China has the largest population. The population of China is 1.36 billion. Canada has the smallest population. The population of Canada is 36 million.
The population in developing countries is larger than that in developed countries.
The large population may cause less living space, more pollution and so on.

※ population是一个集合名词
（１）population常与定冠词the连用，作主语用时，谓语动词常用第三人称单数形式。
e.g.The population is increasing faster and faster. 全世界的人口增长得越来越快。
（２）表示人口的"多"或"少"，不用"much"或"little"，而要用"large"或"small"。
e.g. India has a large population. 印度人口众多。
（３）询问某国、某地有多少人口时,不用"How much... ",而用"How large... ";在问具体
人口时用"What... "。

increase v. (使)增加，（使)增大，增多。
increase by＋倍数或百分数，表示“增加了……倍或百分之……”。
e.g.
Compared with last year, our pay has increased by three times.
与去年相比，我们的工资增长了3倍。
increase to＋具体的增长后的数字，表示“增加到了……”。
e.g.
Our rice output has increased to 6 million tons this year.
我们的水稻产量今年增长到了600万吨。
※ So it is.
该结构主要用于加强语气，其意为“的确如此、确实如此” ，表示后者赞同前者的话或意见，只是进一步强调并重复前句所述的内容。前后句的主语指的是同一个人或物。该结构中的助动词 do 根据前文的情况也可换成 is, am, are, was, were, does, did, can, could 等。
e.g.
—He has done a good job. 他干得不错。
—So he has. 他的确干得不错。
carry out 实行，进行，执行。
e.g. It won’t be an easy plan to carry out.
那并不是一个容易实施的计划。
e.g. This is a new policy, and they will carry it out next year.
这是一项新政策，他们将在明年实施它。
