动词不定式作表语有何功能?
动词不定式作表语说明主语的具体内容,表示具体的或将来的动作,还可以表示目的、结果、安排、命令、决求、劝告、意愿等。
当主语是aim, duty, work, idea, mistake, plan等词或以这些词为中心词的名词词组时,动词不定式作表语表示主语的内容,如:
My work is to clean the room every day.
My chief purpose is to point out the difficulties of the matter.

动词不定式作表语时to能否省略?
一般情况下,不定式作表语不能省略。
我能做的就是等待。表语表示主语的内容,主语从句中含有do,所以to wait中的to省略
★但如果前面的主语从句中含有do时,可以省略to;如:
All I could do was wait.
★由and或or等连接并列的动词不定式时,第二个(和后面 的)不定式可以省略to,如:
My dream is to be an astronaut and explore the universe.

动词的-ing 作表语有何功能
动词的-ing 作表语用来说明主语的内客,表示主语的某种性质或状态。当与主语是同一概念的时候,主语与表语的位置可以替换,如:
上面的例句也可以替换为:
Turning to his children's toys is one way for him to find inspiration.
动词-ing作表语时句子主语常是表示无生命的事物的名词或what引导的名词性从句。动词-ing与主语通常是对等的关系,表示主语的内容,主语、表语可互换位置。如果句中的主语和表语同为动词时,要注意保持两个动词在形式上的一致。如:
Your task is cleaning the windows. 你的任务就是擦窗户。
(Cleaning the windows is your task.)
What I hate most is being laughed at.我最痛恨的就是被别人嘲笑。
(Being laughed at is what I hate most.)
The only thing that interests her is working. 她唯一感兴趣的事就是工作。
(Working is the only thing that interests her.)
He was particularly interested in the old story about a fish jumping through the “Dragon Gate”.

动词的-ed 形式作表语有何功能?
动词的过去分词作表语,表示主语的状态。如:
The city is surrounded on three sides by mountains. 这座城市三面环山。
(过去分词作表语)
The library is now closed. 图书馆关门了。(过去分词作表语)
This was a terrible attack and the woman is still very shocked.
这是一次可怕的袭击,这位女士现在仍然很震惊。(过去分词作表语)
动词-ed 形式作表语和被动语态有何区别?
动词-ed 形式作表语通常用来描写情景、叙述人成事物的特征及所处的状态,而被动语态强调动作,重点说明动作由谁完成、怎样完成。
试比较以下两个句子∶
(1)The shop is closed now. (过去分词作表语,说明商店的状态)
(2)It was closed by the manager. (被动语态,强调动作)
此外,动词-ed 形式作表语时,在功能上更接近形容词,它不仅可以用于be之后,也可根据需要用于其他系动词(如seem, appear)之后,而被动语态中的过去分词动作意味较强,它只能与助动词be(有时可能是get)构成被动结构,不能用于其他动词之后。
表示“使......”意义的动词的-ed 形式和-ing 形式作表语

这类动词通常称为半使役类动词
半使役类动词的-ing 形式和 -ed 形式的用法区别,-ing 形式修饰事物,描述事物的特征,-ed 形式修饰人或人的表情,心理活动等;如:
The film we saw last night was very interesting. 我们昨天晚上看的电影非常有趣。
We were all interested in the film. 我们都对这部电影感兴趣。
The frightening hurricane made the girl very frightened.
令人恐惧的飓风使这个女孩感到害怕。
The teacher was satisfied with the answer of his students.
这位老师对他学生们的回答感到满意。

One of my biggest dreams had always been to see the painting Girl with a Pearl Earing, by the Dutch artist Vermeer. It wasn't until we went on a trip to The Hague last year that this dream came true! There were lots of people waiting to enter the Mauritshuis. Although my legs were tired from walking around the city, I was determined to see the painting, which is often called the "Mona Lisa of the North". Nobody is sure of the identity of the girl in it. And there she was. It was amazing to be standing in front of her at last! The girl is looking over her shoulder. Her eyes are wide and her mouth is parted, just as if she were about to speak. I would love to know what she was going to say!
