Dear Li Ming，
Did you ever have a fight with a good friend？It is a really bad feeling if friends don't talk to each other for a couple of days. That's how I felt last week.
You see，I had a big fight with Steven. He and I play on the same basketball team. Our last game was moved to an earlier time，but Steven didn't get my message，so of course he missed the game. He was angry. He threw his basketball，and it hit me. Steven and I were ready to beat each other!
Thanks to Jenny，everything is OK now. We held a meeting yesterday. We had a good talk and solved our problems. We said sorry to each other.
I'm happy we are friends again. Friendship is important，and we should not fight over such a small matter.
I have to go now—Steven is knocking at my door. Talk to you soon.

(1) thanks to 为固定搭配，thanks不可以改为thank you，to后也不接动词原形，这个短语表示原因，to后接表示感谢的对象。
eg: Thanks to the language，we can learn a lot from other countries.

(2) thanks to和thanks for的辨析
thanks to 意为“多亏；由于”，在句中作状语。 Thanks to the old man，we found the lost child at last.

thanks for 后接名词、代词、动名词，同义短语为thank you for。 Thanks for your invitation.

(1) fight作动词时，意为“打架；打仗“，其过去式和过去分词都是fought。
eg：My little brothers are always fighting.

(2) fight 作名词时， 意为“战斗；争吵”， 为可数名词。
eg：He was wounded in a fight.
他在一次战斗中受伤了。
(3) fight 常构成的短语：
have a fight with sb.“与某人打架”，与fight with sb.意思一样。
eg：Yesterday I had a fight with my brother.
昨天我同我哥哥打架了。
fight against/with“与……作战”，fight against比fight with语气要强。
eg：The soldiers fought against/with the enemies bravely.

rather than 而不是；与其……不如……

eg：He is an explorer rather than a sailor.

(1) rather than表示客观事实，它连接的并列成分可以是名词、代词、形容词、介词(短语)、动名词等。
eg：She enjoys singing rather than dancing.
她喜欢唱歌，而不是跳舞。
(2) rather than 连接两个名词或代词作主语时，谓语动词应与rather than前面的名词或代词在人称和数上保持一致。
eg：You rather than I are going to go camping.
是你而不是我要去野营。
(3) rather than 还常用在一个句式中 prefer to do sth. rather than do sth. 宁愿做某事而不愿做某事，prefer to 和rather than 的后面都跟动词原形。
eg：He prefers to go to the town by bike rather than by bus.
他宁愿骑自行车去城镇，而不愿乘公交车。
(4) rather还可与would 连用，构成would rather...than...宁愿……而不愿……，前后要用两个同类的词或短语。也可直接说would rather do sth.，其否定形式为would rather not do sth.
eg：He would rather play cards than do his homework.
他宁愿打牌而不愿做家庭作业。
He would rather watch TV. 他宁愿看电视。
