To get ready, I studied hard in school.
I became a pilot.
I went to work in the Canadian Space Agency twelve years after I became a pilot. Then after many years of hard work, I became an astronaut!

2. at first的意思是“起先, 开始时”。
e.g. At first I didn’t know how to say.

3. hold out 在本句中的意思是 “伸出”。
e.g. He held out his arms to give his students a hug.
他伸出双臂拥抱了他的学生们。
hold out还有 “提供; 坚持, 不退让” 的意思。
e.g. His invention holds out hope for the people.
他的发明给人民带来希望。
4. someday(也可以写作 some day)和 one day都可以表示将来的 “某天”，若表示过去的“某天”, 只能用one day。
e.g. I believe I will succeed some day/ one day.
我相信总有一天我会成功的。
