In summer, we all want to get out of the house and enjoy the good weather. But maybe picnics and the badminton are not exciting enough. So plenty of people choose to take part in outdoor activities such as snorkeling(浮潜),climbing mountains and exploring caves deep under the ground.
Outdoor activities are more than just a fun way to pass the time in summer. Most activities have clubs and organizations where you can learn and share your knowledge with others. As a teenager, I was in the Boy Scouts(童子军). Not only did I get outside and have adventures, but I also made some lifelong friends.
Outdoor activities challenge your body and mind. You'll have to organize and make plans, as well as analyze(分析) your environment. You will need to learn skills—making fires, tying knots(打结) and testing the wind—things you can't just learn from a book. You also learn emergency procedures(应急措施). Once, in the Boy Scouts, I was asked to plan meals for a camping trip, but forgot to bring cooking equipment(装备). We had to improvise(临时凑合) with Frisbees as dinner plates!
Maybe most importantly, these outdoor activities will give you confidence in yourself. As you use your skills and gain experience, things that seem impossible and scary become simple. You will start to trust yourself and solve problems by yourself.
You can do these outdoor activities almost anywhere in the world, with new challenges in new environments. Wherever you go, you will have the skills to explore. So, choose some outdoor activities this summer!
