The concept of an art museum is easy enough: that is about art. There are those rare museums focused largely or entirely on the work of just one person. Those senses can be all the richer when you know the museum is the artist’s birthplace or onetime home. Here are four examples of such museums.Cyrus E. Dallin Art Museum
611 Massachusetts Ave., Arlington
781-641-0747
The name Cyrus E. Dallin (1861-1944) might not be familiar, but several of the sculptor’s works are. His “Appeal to the Great Spirit”, an example of the many sculptures Dallin made relating to Native Americans, stands in front of the Museum of Fine Arts. Born in Utah, he lived in Arlington (Texas) for the final four decades of his life.Norman Rockwell Museum
9 Glendale Road, Stockbridge
413-298-4100, www.nrm.org
Rockwell (1894-1978) moved to Stockbridge in 1953. By then he was already America’s best-known illustrator (插图画家). The museum, founded in 1969, moved into its present, Robert A.M. Stern-designed building in 1993. Its 998 paintings and drawings are the largest single collection of Rockwell’s art.
Kids 6 and under FREE, adults $20, students with ID: $10Edward Gorey House
8 Strawberry Lane, Yarmouth Port
508-362-3909
Edward Gorey (1925-2000) was an artist, yes, but he was other things as well: author, playwright, set and costume designer. Gorey purchased this 18th-century house in 1979 and lived there the rest of his life. The house currently serves as a museum celebrating Gorey’s life and work. It’s also known as the Elephant House. That’s appropriate, in light of Gorey’s passion for animal welfare.Gilbert Stuart Birthplace and Museum
815 Gilbert Stuart Road, Saunderstown, R. I.
401-294-3001
Gilbert Stuart (1755-1828) is responsible for what may well be the most familiar work of any American artist. His portrait of George Washington is the basis of the first president’s image on the dollar bill. As one of the early Republic’s most distinguished artists, Stuart painted more than a thousand portraits over the course of his career.

From self-driving cars to carebots for elderly people, rapid advances in technology have long represented a potential threat to many jobs normally performed by people.
But experts now believe that almost 50 per cent of occupations existing today will be completely unnecessary by 2025 as artificial intelligence continues to transform businesses. This could put some people’s livelihoods at risk.
“Experts predict that 50 per cent of occupations today will no longer exist by 2025 as people will take up more creative professions,” said Martin Chen, Chief Operating Officer of Genesis. “This means that jobs will develop and so will real estate development.”
Workspaces with rows of desks will become completely extra, not because they are not fit for purpose, but simply because that purpose no longer exists, according to the report. “The next fifteen years will see a revolution in how we work, and a corresponding revolution will necessarily take place on how we plan and think about workplaces,” said Peter Andrew, Director of Workplace Strategy for CBRE Asia Pacific.
A growing proportion of jobs in the future will require creativity intelligence, social skills and the ability to apply artificial intelligence. “And for most people that will be a route to happiness and fulfillment,” the report states.
Data in the US suggests that technology already destroys more jobs than it creates, as GDP has been able to grow faster than employment since 2000. A 2014 report by Pew Research found 52 per cent of experts in artificial and robotics were optimistic about the future and believed there would still be enough jobs in the next few decades.
The optimists imagined “a future in which robots and digital agents do not replace more jobs than they create,” Microsoft’s Jonathan Grudin told researchers that: “Technology will continue to break up jobs, but more jobs seem likely to be created. Although there have always been unemployed people, when we reached a few billion people there were billions of jobs. There is no shortage of things that need to be done and that will not change.”
41.What will put some people’s livelihood at risk in fifteen years of time
A.Self-driving cars and carebots.
B.Artificial intelligence.
C.Business.
D.Real estate.
42.Why will desks in offices be unnecessary by 2025
A.There will be no purpose of using the desks.
B.The desks will no longer be fit for the purpose.
C.The office revolution will make people rethink about their work.
D.The development of technology removes the need for desks.
43.What will the characteristics of the jobs be in the next fifteen years
A.Most jobs in the future use high technology.
B.More and more jobs focus of happiness and fulfillment.
C.More and more jobs are focusing on artificial intelligence.
D.Most jobs will require social ability to communicate with others.
44.What can be implied in what Jonathan Grudin said in the last paragraph
A.There will be billions of people in fifteen years of time.
B.Enough jobs will be created for everyone to choose from.
C.People needn’t worry about their jobs in the future.
D.Robots and digital agents create more jobs than they destroy.
45.What can be the best title of the passage
A.2025, A Jobless World.
B.2025, Robots Leave Humans Unemployed.
C.There Will Be No Desks in Future.
D.Half of Our Jobs Will Be Unnecessary by 2025.

It was a nervous time. World War II had started, and British ships were always watching for German submarines called U-boats. The ship Ben Lomond had left Cape Town, South Africa, with a crew of 55, including a young officer named Poon Lim.
On November 23, 1942, the worst fear came true. The Ben Lomond was attacked by a U-boat. Within minutes the boat was sinking. Poon Lim grabbed a life jacket and leaped over the side. He swam rapidly away from the ship in case it exploded. Sure enough, it let out a large boom and sank beneath the waves. For two hours Poon Lim struggled in the water. Once he almost got onto a life raft with five other sailors, but it got away from his grasp. Then he saw another life raft that was empty, swam to it, and climbed aboard. He found a few cans of biscuits, a water jug, some flares, and a flashlight, which could be enough supplies for about a month.
Day after day Poon Lim had his few biscuits and a couple of sips of water. He searched the horizon for ships. Twice he leaped up to shout and wave when he saw help coming. Once he saw a freight ship. It passed him. At a later time, he saw a United States Navy plane. It flew low over the raft but then disappeared. Still later a U-boat spotted him but for some reason left him alone.
Poon Lim knew he needed to stay strong. He couldn’t get much exercise on an eight-foot-square raft, but he could swim. A couple of times a day, he circled the raft, always watching for sharks. Soon his food and water ran low. He knew that drinking seawater would make him sick, so he tore off the canvas cover on his life jacket and set it out to catch rainwater. Then he took apart the flashlight and used a wire inside to make a fishhook. For months Poon Lim drifted, catching fish and sometimes birds. One time he even caught a shark. Finally, after 130 days, he noticed that the color of the water was changing. Two days later, on his 133rd day, he saw a boat. Three sailors in a small sailboat picked him up and took him to Belem, a city on the coast of Brazil. Poon Lim had crossed the Atlantic Ocean.
No one ever had survived longer on a raft at sea. Poon Lim received many honors, including Britain’s highest award. A booklet of his survival methods was put into every British life raft.

All of us have taken an instant dislike to someone, and then felt guilty about being too judgmental. But now it seems we should place more trust in our first impressions. Most people can correctly judge a total stranger following a short meeting, according to scientists.
And in general, the more confident the people are, the more likely they are to be correct in their assumptions. Jeremy Biesanz, who led a team of researchers from the University of British Columbia, said: “Many important decisions are made after very brief encounters — which employee to hire, which person to date, which student to accept”. Although our first impressions are generally accurate, it is necessary for us to recognize where they may be not good enough.
The researchers arranged for two groups of more than 100 people to meet in a meeting. Much like speed-dating, the volunteers spoke to everyone in their group for three minutes each. At the end of each three-minute chat, they were asked to rate each other’s personalities, and how well they thought their impressions “would coincide with someone who knows this person very well”.
To find out what the person was “really” like, the scientists had his friends and family fill out his personality reports. Generally speaking, the more confident the volunteers felt in accurately rating another’s personality, the closer their ratings were to those of the other person’s friends and family, the researchers said.
However, the participants with the highest accuracy were those who rated themselves moderately(适度)accurate — those highly confident of their judgment were less successful. The scientists concluded that, although we know people are different from each other, a good judge of character knows that in many ways people are mostly alike. For example, almost everyone would prefer being kind to being unfriendly.
Therefore, while first impressions can be generally accurate, they are not conclusive in working out whether somebody really is “better” than someone else.
51.The volunteers joined a meeting which was ______.
A.interesting B.complex C.serious D.brief
52.The underlined phrase “coincide with” in Para. 3 can be replaced by ______.

③A proper degree of confidence ④Knowing that people are mostly alike

54.In the author’s opinion, ______.
A.many important decisions are made with the help of strangers
B.people tend to have better impressions on friends than on strangers
C.we shouldn’t depend on first impressions completely to judge others
D.accurate judgments on others can help us make as many friends as possible
55.What topic is the passage mainly concerned with
A.We should not doubt our ability to judge others.
B.Our first impressions on a stranger are usually accurate.
C.Confidence determines whether people can succeed or not.
D.It’s an important task to make a good judgment about strangers.

第三部分:写作(共2大题;满分35分)
第一节:阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题。
For most of her life, Suanne Laqueur’s passion for storytelling was shown on the dance floor.
Although Laqueur began writing at a young age, dancing always took center stage. She majored in dance and theater at Alfred University and taught at her mother’s dance studio in Croton-on-Hudson, New York, for years. But when her mother was ready to retire and an opportunity opened for Laqueur to take over the studio, she realized she had no interest in taking on the business side of her art: “Owning a studio is a lot of work — financially, logistically. I love the teaching, the choreographing (编舞), the staging, but I didn’t want to own it.”
Yet Laqueur’s disinterest in running the studio changed when she became a self-published author. In the fall of 2013, she decided to pursue self-publishing as a way of sharing her first completed novel with friends and family. During the process, she realized that following her true passion-telling stories through writing — made the business of the art worthwhile, and owning that business meant she could direct her writing career however she chose.
Starting with her second self-published novel, she began investing more time in marketing and building her audience. Her investment paid off. Since 2014, Laqueur, now 49, has self-published six novels, which collectively have hundreds of ratings and reviews on Goodreads. Gradually, readers pay more attention to her works. In particular, her 2016 novel An Exaltation of Larks stole the show and won the grand prize at the 25th Annual Writer’s Digest Self-Published Book Awards, topping more than 2, 300 entries.
“You have to write the most truthful story to you, and I think self-publishing allows that freedom,” she says, “If you work with traditional publishing, it’s more about what’s marketable. There are trade-offs, which everyone will tell you, but by self-publishing I have control of the book, I have control of the story, and I’m cool with that.”
56.Why didn’t Laqueur take over her mother’s studio (no more than 10 words)
57.What made Laqueur change her attitude to business (no more than 5 words)
58.What does the underlined part “stole the show” mean in paragraph 4 (no more than 3 words)

56.考查细节理解。根据第二段中“But when her mother was ready to retire and an opportunity opened for Laqueur to take over the studio, she realized she had no interest in taking on the business side of her art: ‘Owning a studio is a lot of work — financially, logistically. I love the teaching, the choreographing (编舞), the staging, but I didn’t want to own it.’(但当她的母亲准备退休,Laqueur有机会接管工作室时,她意识到自己没有兴趣从事艺术的商业方面的工作:‘拥有一个工作室需要很多工作——从财务上和后勤上。我喜欢这里的教学、编舞和舞台,但我不想拥有它。’)”可知,Laqueur不接管她母亲的工作室是因为她对于经营工作室没有兴趣,她讨厌艺术的商业一面,拥有一家工作室需要付出很多努力——无论是在财务上还是后勤上,故答案为She didn’t have interest in running the studio./She disliked hated the business side of art./Owning a studio is much work-financially, logistically.
