课件21张PPT。Unit 4 readingGlobal warmingPre-readingWhat is the greenhouse made and used for?greenhouseThey are made of glass and plants can grow in it when it is cold outside. How does it work? The glass traps the heat from the sun, making the air warm so that plants can grow better.Greenhouse gases! What’s greenhouse gases effect? Greenhouse gases perform the same fun_ction as the glass in a greenhouse --- They trap the heat of the sun and keep the air surrounding the earth warm.
It is called the greenhouse effect. The Earth Is Becoming Warmer – But Does It Matter?Fast ReadingGlance at the article and answer these questions. What is the main topic of the article?Global warming / The warming of the earth.Sophie Armstrong wrote the magazine article. The name of the magazine is “Earth care”.2.What are the names of the three scientists mentioned in the article? They are Dr. Janice Foster, Charles Keeling and George Hambley.1.Who wrote the magazine article? What is the name of the magazine? Who found out the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere from 1957 to 1977? A. Dr. Janice Foster. B. Charles Keeling. C. George Hambley. D. Sophie Armstrong.3.What are the two graphs about?Graph 1 shows the temperature increase of one degree Fahrenheit between 1860 to 2000.Graph 2 shows the carbon dioxide content in the atmosphere from 1957 to 1997.Graph 1:Graph 2: main ideaPart1 (para1)Should we do something?Part 2 (para2-5)Part 3 (para6)Part 4 (para7)The earth is getting warmer.two different attitudes towards global warmingHow does global warming come about? 4 partsWhat do they think about global warming? Do they agree with one another? There are some very different attitudes among scientists towards this issue.
Some think the effects will be terrible, while others believe that we should not worry about it. The different ideas between Dr. Janice Foster & George Hambleygo up very seriouspositiveproducea greater range of animalsThe author probably agrees that ________ A. actually global warming is good for man. B. we should do nothing about the global warming. C. catastrophes will happen if the globe keeps on warming. D. a lot remains to be found out about the effects of global warming.
1. How has the global warming come about?①Human activity--- burning of fossil fuels. Huge quantities of extra carbon dioxide---from 1957 to 1997---from around 315 parts per million to around 370 parts per million.
② Greenhouse effect--- greenhouse gases--- we need those gases.2.What are the effects of global warming?④ Encourage a greater range of animals.①The sea level to rise.② Severe storms, droughts, famines, the spread of diseases, and destruction of species.③ Make plants grow faster. Crops will produce more.
Writing There is no doubt that the earth is becoming warmer . On the whole the global warming is a tendency. But how has this come about? It is human activity that has resulted in global warming rather than the earth itself.
Most scientists subscribe to the view that the increase in the temperature is due to the greenhouse effect , without which the earth would be cooler than it is.
On the other hand, other scientists are opposed to this view, stating that global warming is actually a positive thing.
As far as I’m concerned, time is running out to stop global warming. It is high time that we did something from ourselves .Remember—our contribution counts! A small step makes a big difference.
