一、Analysis of the teaching material
The type of this lesson is reading. The topic of this unit is holidays and vacations which is close to students’ life. The passages are about Jane’s vacation experience in Malaysia. She spent the first day happily but she felt terrible the next day because of the bad weather. The teacher needs to guide students to know that we should consider the weather before going on vacation. The reading passages are two diary entries. So it’s important to know about the features of diary entries .
二、Analysis of the Students
This lesson is for the students in Grade 8 . They've already learnt about Simple Past Tense. The students are familiar with the topic about vacations, so they will be active in class.
But some of them don’t have good reading strategies. So in this class, I will pay more attention to not only their English studying interests but also reading strategies.
They have learnt diary entries about trip in Grade 7. So it’s easy for them to write diary entries about vacation.

Key sentences:
I felt like I was a bird.
I wonder what life was like here in the past.
What a difference a day makes!

Ss learn to write a diary about their vacations.

Ss do the reading tasks to improve their dialectical thinking ability and logical thinking ability.
4、Cultural awareness
Ss know about some places of interest,like Malaysia, Penang Hill .
四、Teaching key and difficult points
1、Ss learn the structure and descriptive details about Jane’s vacation.
2、Ss use the diary entry structure to describe one’s own vacation.

Review Ask Ss some questions about Lisa’s vacation .Begin the questions with : Where did… What did… Did she… How was/were… Answer the questions to talk about Lisa’s vacation. To consolidate the sentence structure.
Pre-reading Play an ad about Malaysia. And ask Ss to think about the questions. Like : Where is Malaysia? What languages do people in Malaysia speak What local food do people in Malaysia eat Which places can you see in the ad What do people usually do if they go to the places Do you like the activities Do you think them enjoyable Look ,watch and say to know something about Malaysia. Discuss: What activities do they find enjoyable To introduce some basic information about Malaysia and help Ss get ready to read.
While-reading Ask SS to go through the passages in 2b and answer the question: What type of article are these two passages Then ask Ss to read the passages and choose the best answers to the questions: (1). According to the text, we know that the paragliding can ________. A. swim B. fly C. walk D. dance (2). Which of the following is TRUE according to the text A. It was hot and windy on Monday. B. Ask Ss to read the first diary entry and fill in the chart. Ask Ss to read the second diary entry and find the details. Ask Ss to finish 2c Ss read the passages and write down the right answers to the questions. Then check the answers with partners. Ss read the diary entry in details and underline the statement associated with the answers. Ss fill in the blanks with the correct forms of the verbs in brackets. Post-reading Guide Ss to sum up the features of diary entries. Ask Ss to discuss the questions: 1. Which activity do you like best about Jane’s vacation to Malaysia Why 2. What should we consider(考虑) before going on vacation Help Ss to retell the passages according to the pictures. Think and say the features of diary entries. Discuss the questions in groups. Retell the passages according to the pictures. To help Ss to analyze the features of diary entries. To help Ss to know we should consider the weather before going on vacation and each experience is precious. To help students to put what they have learned into practice.
Homework (Choose one of them) Option 1- Read Jane’s diary entry at home. Option 2- Write a diary entry about your own vacation, the following elements should be included: People, place, weather, transportation, food, feelings.
