四、教学过程
Step 1: Pre-reading (10 minutes)
Show a short video about the Grand Canyon with magnificent scenes and breathtaking views. After the video, ask students some questions to arouse their interest:
Have you ever heard of the Grand Canyon before
What do you think the Grand Canyon might look like
What might you expect to learn from a passage about the Grand Canyon
Present some key words and phrases related to the Grand Canyon and nature, and ask students to guess the meanings based on the context or through simple explanations and examples.
Step 2: While-reading (20 minutes)
Fast reading:
Students read the text quickly within 3 minutes.
Ask them to find the main idea of the passage and summarize it in one sentence.
Then, invite some students to share their answers and guide them to correct and refine their summaries.
Careful reading:
Students read the text carefully for the second time.
Provide a table with columns, and ask them to fill in the details based on the text.
Have them check and discuss the answers in pairs.
Select some difficult sentences and phrases from the text, and explain the grammar, vocabulary, and usage.
Step 3: Post-reading (15 minutes)
Group discussion: Divide students into groups of four. Present the following questions for discussion:
What impressed you most about the description of the Grand Canyon in the text
How does the author make the description of the Grand Canyon vivid and attractive
What can we learn from the power and beauty of nature as described in the text
After reading the text, have your feelings and thoughts about nature changed How
Each group appoints a recorder to note down the key points of the discussion.
After 8 minutes, each group selects a representative to present their group's discussion results.
Writing practice: Ask students to close their books and recall the beautiful scenery they have seen before.
Then, guide them to write a short paragraph (about 80 words) to describe the natural landscape, emphasizing the use of the words, phrases, and sentence structures learned from the text.
Step 4: Summary (3 minutes)

Step 5: Homework (2 minutes)
Ask students to search for famous natural landscapes in the library. Write a short introduction (about 100 words) about the landscape they choose and share it with the class in the next lesson.
