Read the brief introduction to Tuesday with Morrie and predict the topic of the book.
Tuesdays with Morrie is an autobiographical nonfiction written by the American writer Mitch. It’s the story of the last philosophy lesson the author’s mentor, Professor Morrie Schwatz, taught Mitch every Tuesday for 14 weeks before he died. Morrie, a professor of socialpsychology in his 70s, was dying of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)(肌萎缩侧索硬化症) in 1994. As one of Morrie’s early students, Mitch visited the professor every Tuesday to listen to the old man’s final instructions and, after his death, Mitch wrote a book called Tuesdays with Morrie. Death, both as the theme of the work and as the clue of the novel, conveys the author’s deeper and more thorough thinking about life, which makes Tuesdays with Morrie itself exude a strong philosophical implication.
It’s about the meaning of life.
Mitch Albom (1959---) is a well-known American columnist, radio host, television commentator and active philanthropist (慈善家). He has published nine bestsellers so far, including Tuesdays with Morrie , a nonfiction book that has been on the bestseller lists for four years and has been translated into thirty-one languages, including Chinese. With more than twenty million copies sold worldwide, it has been a marvel of the book industry in recent years.

1. How do you usually learn lessons about life Through experience or learning from other people Give an example.
One possible answer:
I usually learn lessons about life both through experience and from other people. For example, I have learnt the importance of persistence through my experience of learning English; I have also learnt to share joy and sorrow with others from my best friend.
2. Can you critically evaluate other people’s opinions and make your own judgements
One possible answer:
Sometimes I think I can critically evaluate other people’s opinions. I will see things in an open-minded way and examine others’ opinions from as many angles as possible. Besides, I will approach a problem or situation rationally, analyze all known information and make judgements based on fact or evidence.
