延续性动词和非延续性动词
When用延续性动词和非延续性动词
While和as只能用延续性动词
When he came into my room, I was just reading a book.
When/ while/as was making a phone call, I was writing a letter.
Don’t talk while you are eating.
When I got to station, the bus had already left.
I was unhappy when I worked in this company.
备注：从句位于句末，有“突然”之意。
He was still smiling when the door opened and his wife came.
I was thinking of this when I heard my name called.
主从句动作同时发生和先后发生
When既可以表示同时发生也可以表示先后发生。
While和as只能表示同时发生。
I will phone you when I get home.
When I was 28 years old, I was working in New York.
While/when/as I was watching TV, the phone rang.
I was drawing while my brother was reading.
It began to rain while we were playing basketball.
主句和从句同时用进行的动作，通常用while。
While my daughter was reading the book, I was watching TV.
as…as表示伴随，同时发生(通常用一般过去式)
重要：区别于while和when的点，as表示“随着”。
The students took notes as they listened.
As she grew older, she gained in confidence.
在少数情况下，如果强调动作正在发生，as从句也可表示正在进行。
He came in as I was reading.
As the two men were leaving, a message arrived.
三者互换
如果主句表示的是短暂性动作，从句用延续性动词的进行时态表示在一段时间正在进行的动词，此时，when, while, as可以互换。
