四、教学过程
Step 1: Lead-in (3 minutes)
1.Play a short video about different public holidays around the world.
2.Ask students to name the public holidays they saw in the video and briefly describe what they know about them.
Step 2: Pre-reading (2 minutes)
Show some pictures related to the public holidays mentioned in the text and ask students to guess the names of the holidays.
Present some key words and phrases from the text and ask students to predict the main content based on these words.
Step 3: While-reading (10 minutes)
First Reading (Skimming): Students skim the text quickly to answer the following questions:
How many public holidays are mentioned in the text
What are they
Second Reading (Scanning): Students scan the text carefully to complete the following table:

Third Reading (Detailed Reading): Students read the text in detail and answer the following questions:
Why do people celebrate Thanksgiving
What do people do on Christmas Day
Step 4: Language Points (6 minutes)
Explain the key language points in the text:
(1)give thanks for为……而感恩
(2)in the seventeenth century在十七世纪
(3)lay the table 摆放餐桌
(4)too much 太多 / too many太多 / much too太
(5)help sb. (to) do sth.帮助某人干某事 (6)start doing sth.开始做某事
(7)remember doing sth.记得做过某事 / remember to do sth. 记得要做某事
2. Ask students to make sentences using the key language points.
Step 5: Group Discussion (5 minutes)
Divide students into groups of four. Each group is given a topic related to public holidays:
The similarities and differences between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
How public holidays reflect the culture of a country.
Your favorite public holiday and why.
Students in each group discuss the topic and take notes. After the discussion, each group selects a representative to present their group's ideas.
Step 6: Writing Practice (6 minutes)
Ask students to choose a public holiday they like and write a short passage about it. They should include the following information:
(1)Name of the public holiday.
(2)Date.
(3)Main activities.
(4)Significance.
2. Provide some sentence patterns and useful expressions for students to refer to.
Step 7: Presentation and Feedback (4 minutes)
Invite some students to read their passages aloud.
Other students give feedback and suggestions.
Step 8: Summary (3 minutes)
总结本模块的重点内容和学生在练习中出现的常见问题。
强调语言学习需要不断积累和实践。
Step 9: Homework (1 minutes)
制作一份关于公共假日的手抄报,介绍至少三个不同的公共假日。
