Ⅱ.要点精析
在主从复合句中,对某一名词或代词起修饰作用的从句叫定语从句。被修饰的名词或代词叫先行词,引导定语从句的词叫关系词。关系词分为关系代词(that、which、who、whom、whose、as)和关系副词(when、where、why)两类。
一、关系代词的基本用法
1.who指人,在定语从句中可以充当主语或宾语。
The children who were injured in a car accident are being treated in hospital now. (who作主语)
在车祸中受伤的孩子们现在正在医院接受治疗。
Danny was the man who we rescued from the ruins. (who作宾语)
丹尼是我们从废墟中救出来的那个人。
2.whom指人,在定语从句中作宾语,一般可省略,有时可用who代替。
Rose is the person (who/whom) you should care about.(作宾语)罗丝是你应该关心的人。
3.whose既可指人,也可指物,表“所属”关系,whose在定语从句中作定语。
Any student whose family is too poor to go to school can get help from the government.(whose指人)任何家境贫寒上不起学的学生都可以得到政府的帮助。
He lives in a room whose window faces north.(whose指物)他住在一个窗户朝北的房间里。
4.which指事物,在定语从句中可以充当主语或宾语,作动词的宾语时可省略。
China is a country which has a long history.(作主语)中国是一个具有悠久历史的国家。
The radio(which) he bought yesterday doesn't work.(作宾语)他昨天买的收音机坏了。
5.that既可指人,又可指物,在定语从句中作主语、宾语或表语。
This is the novel that interests me.(指物,作主语)
这就是让我感兴趣的那本小说。
The magazine(that) I bought yesterday is lost.(指物,作宾语)我昨天买的那本杂志丢了。
二、关系代词宜用that不宜用which的情况
1.当先行词被序数词或形容词最高级修饰时。
This is the most interesting story that I have ever read.这是我读过的最有趣的故事。
2.当先行词是 all, little, few, some, everything, anything, nothing, none等不定代词时。
All that can be done has been done.
一切能做的都已经做完了。
3.当先行词被all,the only,the very,the last,the same 等修饰时。
Music is the only thing that interests me.
音乐是唯一令我感兴趣的东西。
4.当先行词既包括人又包括物时。
She described the people and places that impressed her most in her composition.她在作文中描述了令她印象最深刻的一些人和地方。
温馨提示 关系代词在定语从句中作主语时,定语从句的谓语动词在人称、数的方面要和先行词保持一致。
The suitcase that/which lies on the ground is hers.
地上放的那个手提箱是她的。
注意:“one of+复数名词”作先行词,谓语动词用复数形式;“the only one of+复数名词”作先行词,谓语动词用单数形式。

(1)在“make+it+adj./n.+不定式/that从句”结构中,it为形式宾语,真正的宾语为后面的不定式或that从句。find,feel,think等动词也有这样的用法。
(2)在“make+宾语+宾语补足语”结构中,宾语补足语可以是名词、形容词、过去分词、介词短语、不带to的不定式等。
