I.The analysis of teaching material:
本节课来自《多维阅读》第十七级文本《Too wet- Too dry》,全文从地球上存在的两种极端天气开始,介绍了两种极端天气Too wet- Too dry,以两个地方the Atacama Desert和the East Khasi Hills 为例,分别介绍那里的气候情况及人们如何应对这种环境,最后讲述人们如何在这样的环境中生存。

文本通过讲述地球上的Too wet- too dry两种极端天气,并以具体的事例介绍了地球上最干旱的地方the Atacama Desert及人们如何在这样的地方生存;雨水最多的地方the East Khasi Hills的情况,它带给我们的既有利也有弊;最后,让我们学会在不同的气候下生存。

文本从引出极端气候,极端气候是什么样子及人们如何在这样的地方生存,我们要学会在不同气候下生存三个方面展开的,结构为总分总。

文章用对比的方法来讲述两种极端气候,文中涉及了现在完成时,There be结构,one of +形容词的最高级+可数名词复数,定语从句和一些重要结构的用法,

II. The analysis of the students:
这节课的学习者是初中九年级学生,他们有一定的阅读经验和阅读技巧,而且思维活跃,乐于体验新的东西。极端的气候是全球关注的热点话题,它能够激发他们阅读的兴趣。虽然农村学生英语底子相对薄弱,一些生单词会成为它们阅读的障碍,但单本册书中没有太多的生词,大多都能通过上下文猜测单词意思,并不影响学生对整本书的理解。
III.Teaching objectives:
1. The knowledge objective:
(1) Students will be able to guess and understand the unknown words with the help of content and pictures ;
(2) Students will be able to use some useful expressions :one of the wettest place, look like, not at all,no life,It is +adj for sb .to do...
(3) Students will be able to use the sentence patterns and key tenses to describe the content of the text.

(1) Students will be able to master the main idea of the text by skimming and scanning ;
(2) The students’ reading skills will be able to be improved further.

(1) Students will be encouraged to learn more about different climates and learn to live in them.
(2) Students will learn to cooperate, create and sharing in this class.

Step1.warming up
Show Ss some pictures about different climates.
What’s the weather like in the pictures
Play a video about extreme climates and ask them to answer the following questions.
How is the weather
It is terrible.
What can we see in the video
It is raining heavily . The wind is so strong that people can't move. We can see lighting and thundering in the sky.
Step2.Pre-reading.
Let students to skim the article and divide the article into three parts. Then match the main ideas.
Step3.While reading.
Part1:Get students to read the first part and answer the questions below.

Part2. Get students to read the second part and answer the questions below.
