My family has a history of diabetes ( 糖尿病), and I was, too, at risk of suffering from these diseases. When my doctor told me I had to do something about my weight because I was in danger of falling ill, I knew I had to take action.
I did not want to become like my relatives who had to constantly worry about their health and suffer the consequences of ill health. In fact, I wanted to be healthy and I wanted to stay healthy. Consequently, I began this journey of losing weight and becoming fit.
It took me years to get my weight back within healthy limits, and I faced many challenges along the way. Right now, I am not saying that the journey is over since it is not. But what I can say is that, along the way, I managed to create some really good, healthy habits for myself that allow me to keep myself in good shape.
I cannot describe to you the great feeling of finally being in control of my own body. For years, I thought it was impossible to lose weight and that I was doomed ( 注 定 的) to share my family's medical problems. When the doctor told me I should lose weight, I was not very positive about getting results. However, once they started to appear, my attitude changed.
What I noticed, while I was on this road of losing weight, was that the little changes I could make counted the most. It was not a crazy strict diet or exercising for hours that helped me lose weight and keep it that way. The little habits, the small things — they were the ones that offered me the best way to lose the extra pounds I was carrying around. These are the tips that I followed: always warm up before exercising, drink enough water and always eat breakfast. That is how I managed to lose the weight I wanted. I followed the three simple tips above, which also gave me some good habits!

A.She began to believe in her doctor.

B.She pushed her body to the limit.
C.She adopted a very strict diet.
D.She exercised hard for hours daily.

The first time my daughter, Maia, realized I was leaving on a trip without her, she was alarmed. Seeing photos of where I was going, she sobbed and asked why I was going to leave her behind. I tried to explain my work as a travel writer. But as my husband, Evan, pried her off my leg so I could leave, I wondered if my solo trips would be worth the effort of going without her.
A few days later, I returned home and Maia was happy to hear about my trip. She told me I could keep going on trips for work — but we'd compromise (妥协): she'd come with me.
One year later, an invitation came to experience the Rocky Mountaineer on a parent-child journey. And as terrifying as it seemed to take a preschooler on a luxury train, the trip sounded too good to pass up.
Dressed in her fanciest train-riding clothes, four-year-old Maia watched me take notes about the scenery as we chugged along the Fraser River in BC. Wanting to prove her worth as an assistant, she began interviewing the Australian couple sitting beside us. Unable to spell more than a few words, she drew their answers in crayon. She ended up being such an easy travel companion and we found a special rhythm on the road together.
When she was six, we flew to the Riviera Maya in Mexico. I was impressed by how cheerfully fearless she was when we swam in cenotes. But it was on the flight home, when my glued-to-my-hip kid said it was okay that the airline didn't seat us together, that I realized how much travel was shaping her.
Research says that travel can expand a kid's world, helping them become more empathetic and adaptable while boosting their creativity and imagination. Seeing those changes in Maia, I am really grateful for that compromise I made with her.
8.What can we learn about the author from the first two paragraphs
A.She went on trips for work.

10.What influence did travel have on Maia
A.She became much closer to the writer.
B.She grew braver and more independent.
C.She became more outgoing and cheerful.
D.She made new friends and learned new skills.
11.What is the most suitable title for the text
A.The Joys of Travelling with Children

How far back does your family tree go A hundred years A thousand years What about 6 to 7 million years An ancient skull found in Africa suggests that the human family might be that old.
Discovered in 2001 in the desert of Chad, the skull was nicknamed Toumai by scientists. Toumai is a rare find. The skull is nearly complete; it even includes a few teeth. The Toumai skull is estimated to be between 6 and 7 million years old. Scientists are debating whether the skull is linked to humans.
The finding is not without controversy. Some scientists think that Toumai is the oldest known hominid (原始人类)ever found. Others say Toumai is an ape(猿).
Most hominids that scientists are aware of lived millions of years after Toumai. The most famous one is called Lucy. She lived in Ethiopia about 3.5 million years ago. While Lucy's face looked like the face of a chimpanzee, Toumai's skull has both human and ape-like features.
Because Toumai's skull looks different from other hominid skulls, some scientists think Toumai represents a whole new species. Toumai's official name is Sahelanthropus tchadensis.
Scientists were surprised to find a human-like face on a skull as old as Toumai's. They thought hominids turned into humans step by step over time. Scientists mark those changes on a timeline, starting with a chimpanzee-like ancestor and ending with modern humans. Toumai's human-like face and chimp-sized brain suggest that the development of hominids was not so simple. There may not be a direct line leading from Toumai to Lucy to us. Instead, the timeline might be similar to a tree with lots of branches. Different species in different places could have evolved human-like features at different time.
Scientists aren't sure where exactly Toumai belongs on our family tree. Toumai could be like a great-great-grandfather — or just a distant cousin. Toumai could also be one of many types of hominids who wandered Earth millions of years ago.
12.What can we learn about Toumai skull
A.It is the oldest ape - like skull ,
B.It is about 3.5 million years old.
C.It was named by a historian from Africa.
D.It was hardly damaged before being discovered.
13.What does the underlined word "controversy "in paragraph 3 mean
A.Argument. B.Surprise C.Hardship D.Unhappiness
14.What do the scientists conclude from Toumai ' s human - like face in paragraph 6
A.Hominids turned into humans in a simple way.
B.Toumai may belong to the same species as Lucy.
C.The development of hominids may not be a direct line.
D.It confirmed the evolution from Toumai to Lucy to human.
15.What is the main idea of the text
A.The origin of human being.
B.The introduction of Toumai.
C.The study of human family tree.
D.The research on different hominids.

My parents came to the US from India in the 1960s, along with other immigrants from India. Back then, there were few Indians anywhere around the US. My father came to Kansas, where he would get his Ph.D.Six months later, my mother came with the three of us kids — my sister, my brother, and me. We were just six, five and three years old then.
It was the very first winter when we were in Kansas. It was so cold, but we didn't have heavy coats or warm clothes. We didn't have a concept of how cold it really could be in the Midwest, and there was a new surprise every day. We didn't have a car or anything like that, and my dad didn't have a US driver's license. But anyway, my father was studying for his Ph.D., and he would walk up and down a big hill to and from the school on a regular basis.
Since I was three years old, I didn't go to school, but my sister and brother were in school. My father had to walk down the big hill to take them to school every day and then walk back up the hill to go to university. After about three weeks of living like this, a woman called Valerie, whose son John was in the same class as my brother, started noticing them. On a very cold snowy morning, when they went to school as usual,Valerie passed by. She pulled up and said, "I see you on the way every day. Don't you feel cold without coats "My father responded,"We didn't expect the weather would be so cold in Kansas."Valerie said,"Maybe I can take your daughter and son to school. Would you like a ride "
Hearing that, my dad nodded with great joy.
……
Later, Valerie and her family became so dear to my family.

4.How did the author react after hearing the doctor's advice

A.She began to believe in her doctor.

D.She became hopeful about getting down to a healthy weight.
7.What did the author do to achieve her goal

A.She went on trips for work.

(2024高二下·乌鲁木齐期末) 阅读理解
【答案】12.D

14.C

Instead, the timeline might be similar to a tree with lots of branches. Different species in different places could have evolved human-like features at different time."相反,时间线可能类似于有许多分支的树。不同地方的不同物种可能在不同时间进化出类似人类的特征。可知,原始人的发展可能不是一条直线。故选C。

【答案】Paragraph 1:

After expressing their thanks to Valerie, they greeted John with a smile. After a while, a faint flush rose to my brother's cheeks because of the warm wind in the car, and my sister had a broad smile on her face. Seeing that, Valerie decided to continue the act from then on.
Paragraph 2:
Later, Valerie and her family became so dear to my family. It just started with this small act of offering a ride, and afterwards the relationship between the two families gradually deepened. We kids have been close friends with John. Valerie and my mother also became very close. Valerie and her family tried to help us in other aspects, such as offering us warm clothes we were in urgent need of at that time. And my mother loved to cook Indian food for Valerie's family. We all believed that our friendship would last forever.
