Four years ago my sweet mom went to be with her Lord (God). She did it her way.
I got the call at work, and I headed home quickly. Mom and Dad lived on a small farm that they had owned since I was seven. I hated going there every weekend. There was nothing for a young girl to do but watch the one station on the old TV set, if the weather allowed reception.
My mom, on the other hand, loved the peace and quiet of the land and loved to work in the garden among her flowers and vegetables. The place was simple, with no indoor heat. We had a big wood stove in the kitchen that did its best to heat the little farmhouse, but it always seemed cold and too quiet to me.
In the evenings, my mom and I would sit for hours singing in the little kitchen. I sang the melody and Mom harmonized Her favorite song was "Moon River" and we sang it over and over. Mom told me stories next to the radio and there was one song I particularly loved called "Ivory Tower".
As time passed, I had my own children and went to visit the farm every week or two. The kids loved the farm and the tractor rides with my dad. Me, well, I still hated the silence of the farm. While my mom loved to sit at her kitchen table and look out at her garden and flowers and retell all the old stories, I missed the hustle and bustle (喧闹) of my life at home. But I sat there listening quietly as she reminisced.
Now, I sat back in the silence and the silence was deafening so I finally leaned over to turn on an old radio. Music always comforted me.
My heart skipped a beat. "Moon River" was playing on the radio. I sat there with a tear running down my cheek, as I listened to every familiar note.
25.From the first paragraph, we know that the writer's mother ____.
A.left the small farm with Lord
B.passed away four years ago
C.left for Lord to live her own way
D.preferred to be with Lord
26.The underlined word reminisced in the fifth paragraph probably means ____.

A.she could only sing one song in the small farm
B.it was too cold and quiet
C.there was nothing more that could make her excited
D.the place was simple, with no indoor heat
28.Which of the following would be the best title for this passage

It's normal for teens to want to stay connected with friends and social circle, but what about that happening in the middle of the night The Journal of Youth Studies recently published new research showing that one in five teens from 12 to 15 regularly wake to spend all night on social media Not surprisingly, the research also showed that these social night owls were three times more likely than others to feel tired at school and that girls were more likely than boys to be called to office.
The blue light produced by cell phones and computers makes the brain to stay awake, so it's easy to see why a teen might be up all night. A study in Psychological Science showed the same brain reaction: when teens saw large numbers of "likes" on their posts, they stayed awake with excitement as if they had eaten chocolates or won money. Besides not catching up on sleep and interrupting their sleep cycle, teens may never fully enter deep sleep that may be responsible for brain development and learning.
Considering about 72 percent of children from 6 to 17 sleep with some electronic media in their bedrooms, parents need to set rules sooner rather than later.
"Providing access (使用机会) to social media is a favor that children can earn and also lose," Janie Feldman, an expert who treats sleep disorders (紊乱), reminds parents, "The bad effect is clear. So teens and parents should discuss and agree on its use, timing and access. When teenagers agree to the rules, it's easier for parents to control how much time they use the phones or computers."
29.What does the underlined part "night owls" in paragraph 1 refer to
A.Girls often called to office.
B.Teens who stay up late on social media.
C.Teens who are busy with their homework at night.
D.Boys regularly waking in the middle of the night.
30.How do teens react when seeing many "likes" on their posts according to the study
A.They are too excited to go to sleep.
B.They fall asleep easily and happily.
C.They are too excited to go to school.
D.They decide to make more good friends.
31.What suggestion does Janie Feldman give to parents
A.Making rules about media access together with their children.
B.Getting their children to do homework through computers.
C.Encouraging their children to stay connected with online friends.
D.Stopping their children from using cell phones.
32.What is the main idea of the text
A.Deep sleep makes a big difference to brain development.
B.Kids are trying to win back the trust of their parents.
C.Social media may have a bad effect on all kinds of people.
D.Social media may cause teens' sleep disorders.

Many of us are lonelier than ever. We can go shopping and avoid speaking to a single person. Automated voice son phones and machines suck the contact and relational element out of day-to-day life, so much so that experts say that we are experiencing a loneliness disease.
According to Dr. Lalitaa loneliness is the feeling we get when our need for rewarding social contact and relationships is not met. But loneliness is not always the same as being alone. Loneliness is a state of mind linked to wanting human contact but feeling alone. People can be alone and not feel lonely, or they can have contact with people and still experience feelings of loneliness.
Loneliness is a universal human emotion that is both complex and unique to each individual. There are many contributing factors to loneliness, such as illness, relationships breaking down, moving country, changing jobs or not being understood by co-workers, retiring, starting university, etc.
We cannot underestimate the impact loneliness can have on our physical and mental wellbeing. According to research, loneliness has comparable health risks to smoking 15cigarettes a day, and people who feel lonely are more likely to die earlier and suffer from heart attacks. Dr. Lalitaa says, "People often say to me, ‘It's too late to meet new people as an adult.' Having human connect ion can look different for each person, but this can become a block, stopping them going out, trying new things and connecting with new people. Remember, it is never too late to make good, meaningful connections."
However, don't put pressure on yourself. A meaningful relationship takes time. It is not just created overnight. Also, take some time to sit with yourself and venture (冒险) into some of the things that you like doing. "The first thing I would say is not to deny or distance the feeling. Acknowledge it and then you can choose to focus on ways to help yourself," says Dr.Lalitaa.
33.How does the author clarify what loneliness is
A.By stating arguments. B.By giving examples.
C.By making comparisons. D.By employing figures.
34.Why is smoking cigarettes mentioned in the text
A.To explain the causes of loneliness.
B.To illustrate the harm from loneliness.
C.To overestimate the impact of loneliness.
D.To emphasize the universality of loneliness.
35.What does the underlined word "this" in paragraph 4 refer to
A.Lack of appealing reward.
B.Dependence on the network.
C.The regret for the passing youth.
D.The idea of being too late for new relations.
36.What does Dr. Lalitaa consider as priority when dealing with loneliness
A.Having new experience.
B.Telling it from being alone.
C.Being aware of and recognizing it.
D.Making friends from all walks of life.
【答案】33.C
34.B
35.D
36.C
According to Dr. Lalitaa, loneliness is the feeling we get when our need for rewarding social contact and relationships is not met. But loneliness is not always the same as being alone. Loneliness is a state of mind linked to wanting human contact but feeling alone. People can be alone and not feel lonely, or they can have contact with people and still experience feelings of loneliness."
We cannot underestimate the impact loneliness can have on our physical and mental wellbeing. According to research, loneliness has comparable health risks to smoking 15 cigarettes a day"我们不能低估孤独对我们身心健康的影响。
People often say to me, ‘ It's too late to meet new people as an adult.' Having human connect ion can look different for each person, but this can become a block, stopping them going out, trying new things and connecting with new people."
根据最后一段中的"‘The first thing I would say is not to deny or distance the feeling. Acknowledge it and then you can choose to focus on ways to help yourself,' says Dr. Lalitaa.""我要说的第一件事是,不要否认或疏远这种感觉。承认这一点,然后你就可以选择专注于帮助自己的方法,"拉利塔博士说。可知,Dr.Lalitaa 认为在采取办法应对孤寂前首先需要考虑的是承认孤寂的存在。故选C。

With a wide smile on her face, 15-year-old Sirin eagerly ran to her mother to proudly show off her new painting. mother raised in surprise and spoke impatiently, "Not now, baby. I'm busy with an important conversation. Just wait for a while, okay "
Holding her oil painting, Sirin frowned (皱眉), and then searched for her dad."Dad, see what I have done," Sirin exclaimed cheerfully. Her dad turned around while adjusting his tie, grinned at her, and made a thumbs-up sign!
Immediately, Sirin replied angrily, "Dad, you haven't seen it yet."
He smiled at her, saying, "No time, baby. I will see it later." He just patted her back lovingly, kissed her forehead, and rushed for his office.
She was hard to please with a simple gesture or smile. She stood there for a few seconds, and then stormed into her own bedroom. Hot air was blowing from her nostrils(鼻孔). Her face turned red. She threw the painting on the table, slammed(砰地关上)the door and threw herself on her bed.
"Why is everybody so busy " She recalled thousands of incidents that hurt her in preschool, middle school and even high school too! She assumed at least her own family members would give some feedback on her thoughts, but they were no exception. Unconsciously(无意识地), her eyes were filled with tears.
The knocking sound on the door put a sudden brake on her thought. Her mom was calling her for dinner. Sirin intentionally came late to join them. She kept silent and didn't look at anyone, scratching(刮擦) at the table mat with her nail. Her mom was puzzled at her unusual behavior. Suddenly, the morning incident came to mind. Softly, she asked, "Honey, did I do anything wrong "
At this very moment, Sirin could no longer contain her anger.
……
When back from school the next day, Sirin was surprised to see her painting on the wall.
Paragraph 1:
At this very moment, Sirin could no longer contain her anger. "Why are both of you so busy " she roared, tears streaming down her cheeks. She had assumed that her mom and dad would feel proud of her great talent, but she was neglected with everybody having "no time" for her. "I hate both of you!" she screamed angrily, grabbed the painting on the table and tore it in half. Shocked, her mom threw her arms around Sirin tightly, whispering, "Baby, I am so sorry! I promise that this mistake will not be repeated."
Paragraph 2:
When back from school the next day, Sirin was surprised to see her painting on the wall. It was beautifully framed and below the painting was a sentence "We are so proud of you!" On seeing it, she burst out crying. She ran to her mom and hugged her tightly, fully aware of her mom's love. Recalling her mom's busy daily life, she regretted her previous behavior. So she ducked her head, apologizing, "Sorry, my dear mom!" It dawned on them that it is mutual understanding in the family that counts.
例如: "Why are both of you so busy " she roared, tears streaming down her cheeks. She had assumed that her mom and dad would feel proud of her great talent, but she was neglected with everybody having "no time" for her. Shocked, her mom threw her arms around Sirin tightly, whispering, "Baby, I am so sorry!
A.shouted B.comforted C.recalled D.sighed

Having human connect ion can look different for each person, but this can become a block, stopping them going out, trying new things and connecting with new people.
