教学背景分析 The topic is from Section A ,unit7, What’s the highest mountain in the world This is an important lesson in book Four. And is the third period of this unit. This is a reading part. The reading material is an introduction to Qomolangma—the most dangerous mountain in the world. In this reading material, 3a asks students to match each paragraph with the main idea according to the article. 3b guides students to pay attention to details and list the main points of each paragraph. 3c requires students to answer questions according to the information provided in the article, further grasp the content and understand the information related to the passage.
重难点 In this class, students will be able to talk about the topic, and be proficient in using the comparative and superlative degrees of adjectives and adverbs.
教学目标 According to 2011 New Curriculum Standard, I'd like to explain the lesson concretely from the following aspects: First,Language Skills:In this class, students will be able to talk about the topic, and be proficient in using the comparative and superlative degrees of adjectives and adverbs.Second,Language Knowledge:The students are supposed to master the key words,key phrases and key sentences as follows.Third,Emotional Attitude:The Students will be encouraged to challenge themselves in the face of difficulties.Fourth, Language Strategies:The students will be able to guess and make predictions by observing given pictures and scenes, it is called Cognitive Strategy,the students will discuss in groups of four to encourage and help each other to finish the task and it is called Affective Strategy.Fifth,Cultural Awareness:Students will further understand the background information of the passage and this class will deepen the students' awareness of this amazing world.
教学方式与策略 Reading is a process of information input.It mainly relies on students' independent thinking.The main task of the teacher is to build structures, teacher should focus on designing and setting effective problems,well-organizing a topic discussion, allocating reading time efficiently and enriching the guiding methods and ways.The ultimate goal is to improve students' reading efficiency, so in this class the teacher is going to employ task-based teaching method,discussion method,enlightened method and independent inquiry method as well.And this short video is an example of discussion method. This is a students-centered and teacher-guided class,so in this class, students need to follow the learning strategy to read the passage,listen and speak to gain language competence actively, discuss in groups to do exploring study.This short video is an ideal classroom state.

Step 1: Greeting and Warming up The teacher greets the students and divides them into two groups. (Play background music at the same time) Step 2: Play a video Step 3: Lead in Ask the students to answer an easy question “what’s the highest mountain in the world ” and a hard question “Is Qomolangma the most dangerous mountain in the world and why ” To encourage the students to have a competition. To review some important geographical facts that the students have learned in the 1st period of unit 7. To arise the students interests to learn 3a---the target passage. 1mins 45seconds 15seconds
Step 4: To finish Challenge 1 Ask students to read the passage for the first time and match each paragraph with the given three main ideas, show three reading strategies. After the students give out the answers, divide the passage into 3 paragraphs and show the structure of the mind-map of this passage. Step 5: To finish Challenge 2 Ask students to read the 1st paragraph and answer two questions, show the 4th reading strategy. Using a map of China to show where the Himalaya vividly, and use the mind map to retell the facts of Qomolangma. Step 6: To finish Challenge 3 Play a video to ask students what the dangers are when climbing Qomalangma, and ask them to read Paragraph 1 again to list dangers for climbers, and then using pictures to teach and explain the important and difficult sentences of this paragraph. At last, use the mind -map to conclude and retell. Step 7: To finish Challenge 4 Ask students to read paragraph 2 and fill in the blanks about the achievements of the climbers .Using the mind -map and asking the students to remember these big events in human’s history of conquering the nature. Step 8: To finish Challenge 5 Ask the students why so many people risk their lives to climb and read Para.3 to find the answers and use the mind-map to emphasis. Step 9: To finish Challenge 6 Ask the students to read Para.1&3 and find out some comparisons in groups of 4. And then make a summary by using them. To show three reading strategies. and the structure of the mind-map of this passage. To show the 4th reading strategy. Using a map of China to show where the Himalaya vividly, and use the mind map to retell the facts of Qomolangma. To ask students about the dangers while watching and list dangers while reading ,and practice more by using pictures and mind-map. Step 10: Pair work Ask the students to look through the passage and emphasis the title and ask “Is Qomolangma the most dangerous mountain in the world And then ask them to guess whether the blind can succeed in climbing Qomolangma, show a video of Eric, who was the first blind man to reach the top of Qomolangma and ask them to make a pair work to check their understanding of the whole passage: The topic is: Eric wants to invite you to climb Qomolangma with him, but your mother disagrees, make a conversation between you and your mother and try to persuade her. To train the students’ listening &speaking skills and consolidate what they have learned in this class 8mins
Step 11: Homework 1. Design and draw a mind-map of this passage of your own 2.Look for a story about a climber who have climbed Qomolangma, then tell the story.
