On August 2nd when Indonesia got its only gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, the winning team of Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu fell to their knees and cried with relief. Some 3,500 miles away, Indonesia erupted with joy. The president declared their success in the women's doubles game of badminton an early "birthday gift" to the nation, whose independence day is on August 17th.
In England, where the modern version of the sport originated, badminton is a lawn(草坪)game. In Asia it is a serious business. At the Badminton World Championships in 2019, Asian countries won 19 of 20 medals. In recent decades, China has emerged as a heavyweight. But Indonesia is the sport's juggernaut. It has won more titles at the Thomas Cup, the most distinguished tournament, than any other country.
Badminton is the only sport in which it has ever won gold at the Olympics-and it has done so at all but one since the sport became an official event of the Olympics in 1992. Indonesia is the "home of badminton". "Wherever you traveI in Indonesia, within a second you can find people playing badminton. Racquets(球拍)and balls can easily be bought or made, and once a clothesline and a challenger have been located, the match is on," says Raja Oktohari, president of the Indonesian Olympic Committee.
It is little wonder then that badminton is Indonesia's favorite sport. It is also the most developed in the country, which owns the only national team for which the government runs a training centre. Parents also encourage their children to take it up. The rewards for skill and hard work are handsome. It's said that players of the national team earn more than $2,000 a month, ten times the average income. Perhaps most importantly, badminton is a source of national pride. It is the only sport to produce a string of heroes; Rudy Hartono, for example, has won eight titles at the All England men's singles, more than any other player.
24.Why are Polii and Rahayu mentioned
A. To introduce the topic. B. To add some background.
C. To stress their hard-won victory. D. To show their love for badminton.
25. What does the underlined word "juggernaut" in paragraph 2 mean
A. Pioneer. B. Follower. C. Leader. D. Defender.
26. What does Oktohari say about badminton in Indonesia
A. It is easy for everyone to learn.
B. It is simple to get a game going.
C. It has extra requirements for the field.
D. It has become a national sport since 1992.
27. Which of the following is unable to explain badminton's being Indonesia's favorite sport
A.A solid fan base. B. Generous rewards.
C. Government support. D. Access to national heroes.

There are around three million salespeople working in the UK, but the education system did not prepare them for their roles. Clearly, sales education in schools can do much to better this, preparing future generations to support economic growth. But that's far from the only benefit, as we can see when tart to challenge the misconceptions about sales.
The unwillingness to introduce sales into the education system results from a widespread misunderstanding of its nature. Social concepts often cast sales as coercive(强制的)measures, which push individuals to acquire items that they neither want nor need.
Contrary to this description, sales, when done properly, help people make good buying decisions. The ability to exchange information or ideas with customers is at the heart of this ethical(合乎道德的)approach to sales-that's where education can come in. Being able to clearly communicate doesn't just benefit people in their professional lives but in their personal relationships, too. Better communication can support happier relationships and help youngsters feel more socially confident.
Despite the significant role sales play in business functions, there is a notable shortage of well-trained sales professionals in the UK job market due to lack of sales education. It's remarkable that thousands graduate in business each year without a single lesson on sales. This means that businesses across every field can have difficulty in recruiting(招聘),reserving and developing effective sales teams.
It's also important to remember that sales skills aren't only for people who sell for a living. Even non-sales professionals spend an average of 40 percent of their working life being involved in sales-related activities. By including sales, the education system can equip individuals with important soft skills, bridging the gap between academic knowledge and practical work requirements. So it's time to take action. We need a fundamental shift in education-one that can raise confidence, reduce social anxiety and promote effective communication for the benefit of our young people and our economic strength.
28.What is the widespread belief about sales
A. They're important to economic growth. B. They tend to offer people worthless items.
C. They often go against people's will. D. They help with decision-making about purchase
29. Which is the key to selling properly
A. Overall education on sales. B. Effective communication.
C.A rise in social confidence. D.A well-trained sales team.
30. What does paragraph 4 mainly talk about
A. Sales-related challenges for businesses. B. Workforce needs in the UK job market.
C. The current situation of sales education. D. The value of sales in business functions.
31.What message is conveyed in the last part of the text
A. It's time to expand the young workforce.
B. Sales-related activities make up 40% of one's life.
C. Theory and practice should be tied closely in education.
D. Sales skills benefit professionals and non-professionals.

We all know what happens to most stars in the final stages of their lives: they explode violently in an event called a supernova(超新星),the largest explosion taking place in space to NASA's eye, when the run out of "fuel" and collapse(瓦解). This led to some of the most powerful explosions in the universe.5when astronomers used Hubble Space Telescope to observe a "dying" star, they thought they would see the same predictable event. What they saw was a supernova, but the star that created it looked different from the others.
When a massive star is nearing the end of its life, it is almost always covered in a layer(层)hydrogen. The researchers point out that this layer of hydrogen often hides the extremely high temperature inside of the star, which, in our eyes, is blue. When a star becomes a supernova, hydrogen and everything else that makes up the star are released in an explosion. However, the star that created the supernova event known as 2019yvr didn't appear to have any hydrogen in the years leading up to its explosion.
"We haven't seen anything like this before," Charles Kilpatrick, a member of the Young Supernova Experiment, said. "If a star explodes without hydrogen, it should be extremely blue-very, very hot. If a star’s outer layer were free of hydrogen, it would be almost impossible for it to be so hot. It extends the physical possibility."
"Astronomers suspect that in the years leading up to the supernova, stars experienced violent eruptions or death pains. Kilpatrick explained. “The discovery of this star provides some of the most direct evidence yet that the star experienced a disastrous eruption that caused it to lose mass before the explosion. If the star were to make the eruption, it would probably have discharged its hydrogen layer before the explosion." Or, in another new theory, the star may have a companion star that removes the hydrogen layer of its outer layer before it explodes.
32.What does the author say about a supernova
A. It marks the death of a star. B. It is a gas explosion in nature.
C. It serves as a source of energy. D. It is the world's largest explosion.
33.How is paragraph 2 mainly developed
A. By giving examples. B. By analyzing causes.
C. By making comparisons. D. By making classifications.
34. Why is the star lacking in hydrogen before 2019yvr according to Kilpatrick
A. It has a very small mass. B. It may get hydrogen released in advance.
C. Its outer layer is unusually hot. D. Its companion star absorbs all the hydrogen.
35.Which can be a suitable title for the text
A. How does a supernova come into being B. The secret of stars' being put to death
C. Why do stars lose mass before they explode D. An exploding star breaking supernova rules

Her studies nearing completion, Maria faced a crucial decision. She could either settle for a comfortable job or pursue her true passion, which was making her hometown a better place. Maria's heart led her to choose the path less traveled. Returning to her village, Maria devoted herself to establishing a non-profit dedicated to empowering underprivileged children through education. It was not easy for Maria, who had to deal with limited resources, difficulty with fundraising as well as skepticism from the locals. Yet her resolve did not waver.
Despite the challenges, Maria's non-profit gradually made a difference. It became a cornerstone of the community, providing education and hope for the children who had once faced a future with limited options. As the children grew, their success stories bore testimony to the organization's positive impact. The villagers’perception shifted from doubt to trust and they began actively investing energy in it. With this newfound solidarity, Maria was making plans to expand the organization's reach to impact more communities and help a greater number of people realize their potential.
