根据画线句前面的“That was all: just an unexpected glimpse of something mysterious and beautiful.(仅此而已:只是对神秘而美丽事物的意外一瞥。)”并结合上文父亲抱着熟睡的作者去看流星的场景可知,在这个夜晚,作者看到了神秘而美丽的流星雨,再根据画线句“But, back in bed, the child stared for a long time into the dark, knowing that all around
the quiet house, the night was full of the silent music of the falling stars.(但是,回到床上,孩子在黑暗中凝视了很长一段时间,知道在安静的房子周围,夜晚充满了星星落下的无声音乐。)” 故选A。
根据第五段中的“I was the fortunate boy whose father believed that a new experience was more important for a small boy than an unbroken night’s sleep(我是一个幸运的男孩,他的父亲认为,对一个小男孩来说,一次新的经历比一个完整夜晚的睡眠更重要)”和“What I remember is the night of the shooting stars, and the day we rode in a caboose (列车末尾的职工车厢), the telegraph we made that really worked, and the ‘trophy table’ in the dining room where we children were encouraged to exhibit things we had found — anything unusual or beautiful — snake skins, seashells, flowers, arrowheads...(我记得的是流星的夜晚,我们坐在列车末尾的职工车厢里的那一天,我们制作的真的很管用的电报,还有餐厅里的‘奖杯桌’,在那里我们这些孩子被鼓励展示我们发现的东西——任何不寻常或美丽的东西——蛇皮、贝壳、花、箭头……)” 故选A。
根据最后一段中的“My father had, to a marvellous degree, the gift of opening doors for his children, of leading them into areas of splendid newness.
通读全文可知,本文首先描述了几十年前的一个夏日夜晚父亲抱起熟睡的作者,带作者去看流星,再根据第五段中的“Decades have passed, but I remember that night still, because I was the fortunate boy whose father believed that a new experience was more important for a small boy than an unbroken night’s sleep.(几十年过去了,但我仍然记得那个夜晚,因为我是一个幸运的男孩,他的父亲认为,对一个小男孩来说,一次新的经历比一个完整的夜晚更重要。)”和最后一段中的“My father had, to a marvellous degree, the gift of opening doors for his children, of leading them into areas of splendid newness.

根据文章第二段““It can open opportunities,” Fung says—then pauses. She’s spotted the bias (偏好) in her vision of a more interconnected future: The Al-aided shopping would be one-sided, because few Americans would bother to use AI translation to help research products advertised in Indonesian.(“它可以打开机会,”Fung说,然后停顿了一下。 和文章第三段“Fung is part of a global community of AI researchers testing the language skills of ChatGPT and sounding the alarm about evidence that they are significantly less capable in languages other than English.(Fung是全球人工智能研究人员社区的一员,他们测试了ChatGPT的语言技能,并对有证据表明他们在英语以外的语言能力上明显较差发出了警告。)”
第二段“She’s spotted the bias (偏好) in her vision of a more interconnected
future: ...sees this bias in her own field.”多次提到“bias(偏好)”,说明全球人工智能研究人员对人工智能在非英语语言方面的能力有偏见,根据上文“Fung is part of a global community of AI researchers testing the language skills of ChatGPT and sounding the alarm about evidence that they are significantly less capable in languages other than English.(Fung是全球人工智能研究人员社区的一员,他们测试了ChatGPT的语言技能,并对有证据表明他们在英语以外的语言能力上明显较差发出了警告。)”
根据第四段“Nguyen’s study reports that tests on ChatGPT in March showed it performed substantially worse at answering factual questions or summarizing complex text in non-English languages and was more likely to fabricate (捏造) information.( Nguyen的研究报告称,3月份对ChatGPT的测试显示,它在回答非英语事实性问题或总结复杂文本方面的表现要差得多,而且更有可能编造信息。)” 故选A。
根据文章第三段“Fung is part of a global community of AI researchers testing the language skills of ChatGPT and sounding the alarm about evidence that they are significantly less capable in languages other than English.(Fung是全球人工智能研究人员社区的一员,他们测试了ChatGPT的语言技能,并对有证据表明他们在英语以外的语言能力上明显较差发出了警告。)” ChatGPT: Leaving Non-English Out in AI(ChatGPT:将非英语排除在AI之外)是合适的标题。

根据第二段中的“You start by asking group members to write down what is going on in their brains separately. Next, you pool them and share them among the group without telling the authors. Then, each member evaluates them on his or her own, only after which do the team members come together to select and improve the most promising options. 故选A。
根据第三段的首句“An example of great brainwriting was in 2010 when 33 miners were trapped underground in Chile.
根据第四段中的“The brainwriting process ensures that all ideas are brought to the table and all voices are brought into conversation. The goal isn’t to be the smartest person in the room.
根据最后一段内容“Collective intelligence begins with individual creativity, but it doesn’t end there. Individuals produce a greater volume and variety of novel ideas when they work alone. That means they not only come up with more brilliant ideas than groups but also more terrible ideas. Therefore, it takes collective judgment to find the signal in the noise and bring out the best ideas.

By and by, my mom came to the door to discover the source of the sorrow. As she let me in and relieved me of my school things, I tried to relate my horrible dilemma and the depth of my sadness. Mom listened attentively, and her comforting presence brought a glimmer of hope to my disappointed heart. Having wiped my tears tenderly, she gave me the scissors fetched from the kitchen and suggested I find some replacement flowers from our garden. This time, I chose smaller and more resilient flowers, carefully arranging them inside the basket. Seeing each petal radiating the purest colors of spring, I felt my enthusiasm began to return.
Soon, my newly-decorated basket was ready to be offered again. With the revived basket cradled in my arms, I embarked on a second journey towards home. Awkwardly, I placed the paper handle over the knob, knocked hesitantly, and made an embarrassed retreat. Mom slowly came and answered the door. Oh! She was SO surprised! I stepped out of my hiding place. “Well, Mary!” she exclaimed! “Look what someone left here! Aren’t they lovely! “ With her excitement all my worries vanished. My pride of giving barely allowed me to maintain the surprise but what
mattered was to show mom she was remembered on this special day.

M: Oh, my word! My clothes are all ruined! It must be that new washing powder!
W: Ha ha, good job, John.
M: This isn’t funny, honey! My white football shirt turns pink now!
W: Next time, remember to separate the clothes into dark, light, and white ones before you wash them. That brand-new red T-shirt bled onto the other clothes.
M: I see, but what should I do with the shirt I don’t think I can make it white by washing it again.
W: Just throw it away. I can see no reason to keep this old shirt. It’s also a bit small for you.
M: Well, it’s a custom-made shirt from my college football team. It always reminds me of the good times. I guess the dry cleaner may have a way to handle it.
Text 9(188
M: Hey, Nancy. I read a piece of interesting news that a couple plans India’s “first metaverse wedding” when I looked through today’s paper.
W: Metaverse What’s that
M: Haven’t you heard about it when you’re watching TV or surfing the Internet It’s a term used to describe virtual 3D environments in which users can gather and interact. Because of the COVID-19, the couple decides to hold their wedding in a virtual world instead of in a church or a hotel.
W: But how exactly
M: After getting his parents’ approval, the groom has created a castle-like digital space where the one-hour wedding ceremony will be held. In contrast to traditional ceremonies, it will not offer guests delicious food but will offer them the chance to create their character images through their phones or laptops. It’s said that the ceremony is costing about $2,000 to design, develop and host.
W: Wow, that’s amazing!
M: Yes. The groom also creates a 3D character for his fiancée’s father who died last April and he will bless them in the virtual wedding. It’s something that can only happen in the metaverse.
