One Saturday in December, Annacarin Elf, the head of operations at Gothenburg City Library, just happened to walk by her workplace. Noticing that the door was open, she entered the library, and was astonished to see the heartwarming scene that people were using it like on a regular day.
It was scheduled to be closed for the New Year holiday. The people in the library behaved as usual. Many were sitting reading newspapers, some families were in the children's section and others were searching for books on the computer.
It seemed that Elf's colleagues had simply forgotten to lock the door, and because this popular library is usually open on Saturdays, visitors just assumed they could walk in. Elf called to check with her staff team, before announcing to the people present that the library was about to close. Then she expressed her regret for what had been done wrong and caused them a problem. It later turns out that 446 locals visited the city library, borrowing a total of 246 books during the day. What's remarkable is that people checked out their books through the library's electronic self-service system, and that to date, all the books have been returned!
Many Swedes have reacted positively to this uplifting demonstration of local respect for the library, a center that can be seen as a sign of the community, and what the locals did has strengthened their sense of belonging in their community.

Childhood can bring a lot of awe(敬畏). Research also suggests that awe is important in promoting well-being beyond our individual lives-it can encourage our children to care for others.
A recent study by researchers Eftychia Stamkou, Keltner, and their colleagues invited 8- to 13-year-old children to participate in an experiment. In the awe group, children were offered a short part of a movie that features a child transformed into a seal(海豹) and flying over a city while in the joy group, children were offered a short part of another movie where friends were celebrating.
Researchers measured children's kindness toward poor families by inviting children to support their food drive by spending as much time as they wanted in counting donated things, to make sure the poor got access to the donated food as quickly as possible. They also invited children to donate the reward they earned from participating in the research (e.g. , a snack or a museum ticket) to a poor family.
The results Children who watched the awe-inspiring video spent more time counting food donations and donated their rewards to poor families more often compared to the children who watched the joy-inspiring video. These findings highlight that awe-inspiring art can motivate children to be sympathetic toward people who have been forcibly displaced(离开家园的)from their countries of origin.
As parents, we can also seek out everyday experiences of awe in our communities to share with our children, like wall paintings of the city scenery and folk art. Awe can be inspired by music, like the harmonious sounds of a wooden guitar and the beat of a drum. Awesome architecture, like symphony halls, museums, and even features like staircases, can be a way to experience awe with our children.
28. What does the research find
A. Awe should be inspired early. B. Awe helps kids be more generous.
C. Individual lives affect kids' health. D. Training awe gives kids excitement.
29. What do we know about the children in the experiment
A. They watched different movies. B. They commented on the videos.
C. They were asked some questions. D. They donated money to poor families.
30. Why did the awe group support the food drive more
A. They learned this from a video. B. They were motivated by the movie.
C. They liked to contribute to charity. D. They were reminded by the homeless.
31.What does the author intend to do in the last paragraph
A. Give reasons for feeling awe. B. List experiences of awe.
C. Show benefits of awe to kids. D. Appeal for developing awe in kids.

There are many potential sources of clean energy out there: solar energy, wind energy, hydrogen based energy, and more. One of the less-known sources of clean energy is wave energy. Now the energy being put to use in an almost funny way, turning seawater into drinking water by Oneka, a Canadia startup.
In general, there are two traditional kinds of desalination(脱盐) technology. In the first technology seawater is heated till the water changes into steam, leaving the salt behind, and then the steam is cooled, turning into water, and made available for use. In the second one, seawater is pushed through a se through thin material, separating the salt and the water, which consumes relatively less fuel compared with the first technology. Whichever technology is used, however, most desalination plants run on non-renewable energy.
Desalination equipment is traditionally powered by fossil(化石)fuels, but the world has certainly reached a vital point where it's necessary to move away from fossil fuel-powered desalination. This is where Oneka's unique desalination technology comes in. Oneka uses floating desalination machines, attached to a kind of floating device which then absorbs energy from the ocean waves, and changes it into mechanical forces, to pump(抽运)the water through the see-through thin material system. The fresh water is then pumped to land, through the power of the waves.
The waste from conventional desalination plants contains high concentrations of salt which is discharged into the sea, creating a zone where sea life dies off. Oneka's technology steers clear of this, because the water that streams back into the ocean only has a 30 percent increase in the salt concentration, and is quickly spread by the waves.
This innovative technology shows us that sometimes the solutions to complicated problems don't have be complicated at all. Sometimes all you need are the ocean waves.
32. What is the first technology in paragraph 2 like
A. It is labor-wasting. B. It is energy-hungry.
C. It removes salt from gas. D. It betters the second one.
33.What can we learn about Oneka's technology
A. It's slightly complicated. B. It leaves little salt behind.
C. It's mechanically driven. D. It reshapes fresh water storage.
34. What does the underlined phrase "steers clear of" in paragraph 4 probably mean
A. Avoids. B. Enhances. C. Replaces. D. Achieves.
35.Which can be a suitable title for the text
A. Floating Desalination Machines B. Sea Waves: A New Clean Energy
C. Wave-powered Green Desalination D. Desalination: The Future of Fresh Water

Tom and Danny were a team, bound tightly by baseball. Every day, as the last school bell rang, they would rushed to the old field that lay on the outskirts of the town, where they tirelessly practiced the game they loved. Tom had a pitch(投球)that was feared and admired, each throw coming with precision. Danny, on the other hand, always stood ready to hit Tom's pitches.
The field was a place of possibilities for the boys. Tom dreamed of becoming a pitcher whose throws were untouchable, while Danny pictured himself as a batter whose hits were decisive. As the tryouts for the local baseball club approached, they doubled their efforts. This was no ordinary club. It was a gateway to the professional leagues, and the tryouts were a golden opportunity. They valued each play, perfected their techniques, and built unshakable trust.
One afternoon, they decided to include complex plays into their practice, challenging each other's limits. Tom worked on curveballs(曲线球),while Danny practiced hitting off-speed pitches, adjusting his timing to perfection. Their laughter and shouts filled the field as they pushed one another to excel themselves.
In the middle of this intense session, Danny was up to bat, his eyes locked on Tom's arm. But when Tom threw a faster ball than he normally does, his arm really started to hurt. He usually hides his feelings, but this time he had a strange look on his face that showed he was in pain.
Danny dropped his bat and rushed over. "Tom, are you okay What's wrong with your arm ”he asked, panic edging his voice. Trying to downplay the situation, Tom gave a weak smile and said, "I just twisted(扭伤)it a bit, I think. Not great timing with tryouts happening next month." Danny supported Tom off the field without a second thought and went to hospital.

应用文范文:
As a high school senior, I think this summer vacation is special. I've planned it focusing on personal growth and exploration.
I have decided to work part-time at a bookstore. This experience will not only help me develop a sense of responsibility but allow me to save up for a language course. Being surrounded by books is an added bonus as I'm a book lover. Additionally, I'm determined to learn Arabic. Understanding another language opens doors to different cultures and perspectives, which I find incredibly valuable.
I'm sure this combination of work and learning will make for a both productive and meaningful summer.
续写范文:
The doctor recommended that Tom rest his arm. Resting for three days, Tom began to feel anxious. Danny decided to assist Tom with his recovery training. However, Tom's recovery was not significantly noticeable. “I might be doubtful for the tryout,” said Tom in a sad voice.“Take it easy, Tom. Everything will be OK," Danny responded. With Danny's support, Tom managed to keep his spirits up and the condition of his arm improved gradually. On the eve of the tryout, Danny was by Tom's side as usual, encouraging him.
On the day of the tryout, Danny and Tom stepped onto the field together. Tom's pitches were not as fast as they used to be, but they were hit with great accuracy. Danny, too, gave it his all in the batting area. Although they did not win every game, they both made it to the next round of tryouts. Exhausted but filled with hope, the two sat side by side, enjoying a moment of peace.“Thank you, Danny," Tom said gratefully.“My pleasure. That's what friends are for," Danny replied with a smile.
