I've been interested in languages for as long as I can remember. My dad was a language genius (天才). My family often traveled when I was a child, and my dad would talk to everyone we met with different languages easily. His abilities greatly impressed me. I hoped that I would be able to speak as many languages as he could someday.
I wasn't a natural language learner. When I was 11 years old, I began to learn French, but made little progress at school and almost gave it up. After I entered college, I read many German works in translation. I loved them so much that I wanted to read them in their mother language. This drove me to pick up German. After I mastered (掌握) German, I found myself fall in love with languages. Since then, I have never stopped learning new languages. By my late twenties, I was able to speak French, Latin and Greek.
Now, I can read about 40 languages and speak most of them well. Asian languages are more difficult to master. It took me almost ten years to get my Korean skills close to native (母语的) level. I live in Singapore now. At home, I speak French with my sons. If my Korean wife is there, we'll use English. When we don't want the kids to understand our conversations, we use Korean.
Recently, I've been studying Esperanto (世界语). It is necessary to learn different languages.I think the world will be a less interesting place if there is only one language. It is like visiting a garden where there is only one type of plant!
( )58.Who might inspire (激发) the writer to learn different languages
A.His mother. B.His father.
C.His wife. D.His children.
( )59.Put the languages in order according to the time the writer began to learn them.
① Esperanto ② French ③ German ④ Korean
A.①②③④ B.②③④①
C.①④③② D.②③①④
( )60.What does the underlined word “them” in Paragraph 2 refer to
A.Languages. B.Families.
C.German works. D.Friends.
( )61.Which of the following is WRONG
A.The writer lives in Korea now.
B.The writer's father is good at languages.
C.The writer can speak about 40 languages.
D.The writer began to learn French when he was 11 years old.
( )62.What can we learn from the passage
A.Everyone can be a language genius.
B.Asian languages are easy to master.
C.Learning different languages is necessary.
D.Language courses at school are less important.
C
Can you swim Do you like swimming Yes Well, how can you learn to swim I think the best way is to go into the water and learn. I'm afraid you'll never learn to swim just by reading books about swimming or looking at others who are swimming. It's the same with the English study. We must practice, practice and practice.
Listening and speaking are very important for beginners. The children in English-speaking countries first listen to others. Then they try to imitate (模仿) and speak. We can listen to English programs on the radio. You may just understand a few words. It doesn't matter. Just be relaxed, and try to catch every word.
Somebody may be a good listener. But he or she is afraid to speak. He or she is afraid of making mistakes. You know we sometimes make mistakes when we speak Chinese. So don't be afraid. If you really want to learn English well, you must try to speak with everyone who knows English. Whether you know him or not is not important. When there's nobody to talk with, you can talk to yourself in English. It's interesting and also a good way to practice your spoken English.
Reading and writing are important, too. First, we must choose the books we're interested in. A lot of reading will improve your language sense. This is the most important.
Keep writing English diaries. We can also write English articles. You may even post them to English magazines. Don't be afraid of failure. Failure is the mother of success.
Easier said than done. Well, let's do more practice from now on. I'm sure you'll learn English well in this way.
( )63.How can we learn to swim according to the passage
A.By reading books about swimming.
B.By looking at others who are swimming.
C.By asking swimmers for advice.
D.By going into the water and learning.
( )64.What comes first when someone begins to learn English
A.Listening. B.Speaking.
C.Writing. D.Reading.
( )65.Choose the best sentence to fill in the blank “ ” in Paragraph 3.
A.Remember, the more you speak, the fewer mistakes you'll make.
B.Listening, speaking, reading and writing are important to learn English.
C.My listening is improved by listening for just the key words.
D.Learning new words and more grammar so that you can understand better.
( )66.What is the structure of this passage
( )67.What's the best title for the passage
A.The importance of keeping English diaries
B.Ways of English learning
C.Don't be afraid of making mistakes
D.Ways to improve your language sense
D
Most people hope to have a good memory which helps them succeed in study, work and life. Can memory be improved Luckily, hundreds of studies in the past 50 years have already given us a definite (确定的) answer.
A healthy lifestyle (生活方式) keeps your brain memory active. First of all, it is necessary to have a healthy eating habit. Eating more food rich in Vitamin B and Vitamin E helps you have a better memory. Doing exercise can keep your brain alive, too. Proper exercise provides much needed oxygen for the brain. Running, riding a bike, swimming and even walking two or three times a week are helpful. Moreover, getting enough sleep is important. Only when your brain gets a good rest, can it work well. The healthier your lifestyle is, the better your memory will become.
Memory skills help you remember things better. Chunking is a way of remembering a piece of information by cutting it into smaller ones. For example, to memorize a ten-digit (数学) telephone (数字) number 2127983630, you can divide the digits into three groups:first 212, then 798, and last 3630.This method is far more effective (有效的) than remembering a string (字符串) of 10 digits. However, memory skills will hardly work if you don't understand the information. What's more, only a regular (经常的) review can make the memory last long. That is why students are always advised to go over what they have learnt after one day and then after three days, and then use it as often as possible.
Human brains are like muscles that need nutrition (营养) and exercise to become stronger. If you make a few lifestyle changes and try some memory skills, you can certainly improve your memory.
( )68.What can be seen as a healthy lifestyle
① doing exercise ② getting enough sleep ③ going over what you have learned ④ eating food rich in Vitamin B and E ⑤ dividing a telephone number into three groups
A.①②③ B.②③④ C.③④⑤ D.①②④
( )69.What does the underlined word “Chunking” in Paragraph 3 mean
A.Making mistakes.
B.Cutting something into smaller ones.
C.Remembering something as a whole.
D.Using sth. as often as possible.
( )70.Why should we review what we've learnt regularly
A.To follow our teachers' advice.
B.To show that we are hardworking.
C.To make the memory last long.
D.To do homework right and finish it early.
( )71.What's the result of the studies mentioned in the last paragraph
A.Not everyone has a good memory.
B.Memory skills are not difficult to learn.
C.Memory can be improved in some way.
D.It's important to have a healthy lifestyle.
( )72.Which of the following is NOT true
A.To have a healthy eating habit is necessary.
B.Getting enough sleep is important.
C.Memory skills is helpful for you to remember things.

Hello, I'm Kevin. Many students think it is difficult to remember new words. Now I will give you some advice. First, make word lists. Making word lists is a popular and helpful way to remember new words. Many students remember the new words in this way. Second, it is a good way to learn new words through the ear. You can find radio shows or TV shows, and listen to them carefully. As you listen to more conversations, you will remember the new words easily. Last but not least, write the names on the objects and say the words when you see them. For example, you can write “bottle” on a piece of paper, and put it on the bottle. Say it as soon as you see it.

One Possible Version:
My English Learning
English is my favorite subject. And I am good at it.
I began to learn English when I was 6 years old. But at the beginning, listening seemed a little difficult for me. So I did a lot of listening practice, such as listening to English programs on the radio and watching English TV programs.
To learn English well, I think singing English songs is helpful. Reading is also a good way to improve English. I believe everyone can learn English well if he or she tries his or her best.
