It isn't just people who get road rage. Robins (知更鸟) in the countryside become more aggressive (好斗的) when they hear the sound of traffic, according to a study. They are actually fiercely competitive creatures, whose calls and behaviors are part of a struggle for their living areas with their neighbors.
When a robin arrives uninvited in another bird's living areas, they sing special songs to protect themselves against attack from the competitor, and use behaviors including moving slowly from side to side and showing their red chest feathers, before closing in and even going on the attack.
Earlier studies had found that robins living in cities were more physically aggressive than their cousins in the countryside. The latest research suggests that noise pollution could play a part. “In normally quiet surroundings, we found that additional traffic noise led to rural robins becoming more physically aggressive,” said Dr a lar Ak ay, who was the study's lead author.
Ak ay and his team thought that the traffic noise was negatively influencing robins' natural communication through songs. “The long-term high level of noise that exists day and night in city areas, such as from traffic or construction equipment, may always harm the efficient transmission of acoustic signals (听觉信号) and this is likely to be the key reason why urban robins are typically more aggressive than rural birds,” he said.
A higher level of aggression was likely to make these birds' lives more difficult, Ak ay suggested. One of his theories was that taking more action in response to a competitor could make them more easily attacked by natural enemies, especially when their attention was focused on the competitor.
11.Which of the following probably mean a robin is struggling for living areas
A.Quick moves. B.Special calls.
C.Sweet songs. D.Beautiful dances.
12.Where do robins with a higher level of aggression usually live
A.In a house. B.In a forest.
C.In the countryside. D.In a noisy city.
13.What can we know about robins from paragraph 4
A.They enjoy fighting with their neighbors.
B.They can avoid the effect of noise by singing.
C.Their communication can be harmed by noise.
D.Their natures cause their fights with others.
14.What may make robins' lives more hard in Dr Ak ay's view
A.Keeping chatting with the competitors.
B.Fighting more with the competitors.
C.Not struggling for the living areas.
D.Being less focused on the competitors.

Phyllis and her friends graduated about a week ago. They all have different plans. Phyllis is moving to New York for medical school. Tina is staying in Los Angeles and working as a medical assistant. Lori is traveling in Europe. Ruby is teaching English in China. The four girls have been best friends since their first year of college. It was hard for all of them to be away from each other. However, they accepted that they were going to do what would be best for them.
Phyllis was more excited than sad. She has always wanted to go to New York. She loves the fast-paced lifestyle, the skyline, and the subway system. She is also looking forward to being around people who have the same goals as she does. Unlike Phyllis, Tina is taking a break from school. She wants to have a year of work experience before going to medical school. She is excited to take it easy. Lori is excited, too. She is going to travel by herself, and she is okay with that. She plans to visit England, Ireland, Spain, Sweden, Denmark, and more. Ruby is more nervous about moving. She has never been to China before and does not speak Chinese. She is excited for her job though. She loves teaching and seeing students' faces light up when they understand something.
Although the four of them will be apart, they promised to keep in contact with each other through video chat. They agreed that they would all talk at 8 pm on Fridays. They also agreed to meet up for big events, such as weddings and holidays.
15.Who plan to go abroad after graduation
A.Phyllis and Tina. B.Tina and Lori.
C.Lori and Ruby. D.Ruby and Phyllis.
16.Why has Tina decided to work as a medical assistant
A.To earn her living. B.To support her family.
C.To pay for her schooling. D.To get some work experience.
17.What's the common feeling of the four girls about graduation
A.They are excited. B.They are relaxed.
C.They are nervous. D.They are regretful.
18.What can we infer about the four girls from the last paragraph
A.They will chat every weekend.
B.They will keep up their friendship.
C.They will hardly gather except for their weddings.
D.They will soon study together again at a medical school.
三、语法填空(共10小题;每小题3分,满分30分)
阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
Finding resources online is no longer a problem. It's 19 (amaze) to see the resources we now have online for self-education. The possibilities are almost endless. You can learn just about anything online. Mention a subject and you will find enough materials to fill months or even years of learning.
Since there are more than enough resources out there, what limits (限制) you is your own 20 (curious). It is the fuel. The more you have it, the 21 (far) you will go. It's like someone 22 explores an open land without any border in sight. How far he/she goes doesn't depend on the size of the land 23 on the amount of the fuel he/she has.
While the resources are 24 (actual) unlimited, your time is not. So your ability to choose what to learn 25 (appear) more important. You should spend your limited time 26 the right subject and with the right depth. Not everything is worth your time, and for those that are worthwhile, each deserves different amounts of your time.
Learning is a lifelong process. We are lucky 27 (have) all these resources and opportunities online. Don't waste them; make 28 most of them instead.
