One morning, Yang went out for a walk and met this group of runners again, who ran together and cheered each other on. Without hesitation, she asked if she could join them.
“At first, I was afraid that I would become a drag on this group of young people, but they accepted me with great warmth.” From running 5 km, then 10 km to 20 km and, finally, a full marathon, the distance that Yang was able to cover became longer and longer. Running every day has also brought changes to Yang's body. To the doctor's surprise, her kidney stones, which were the size of beans before, disappeared after several years of running.
In 2019, Yang signed up for the Helsinki Marathon with her running friends. “When I finished the whole course and saw many foreigners giving me the thumbs-up, it made me feel great. We, Chinese old ladies, are not only good at square dancing,” said Yang.

In the past few years, I have made many mistakes on the way to lose weight. Now I'd like to share them with you, hoping you choose better methods.
I started to skip (略过) breakfast. Most people trying to lose weight believe simply eating less and skipping meals can help get rid of the fat. 15 And in fact, breakfast is easily burnt throughout the day.
I bought diet food. When I went shopping, I always looked for the foods marked diet, low-fat, healthy, etc. 16 I bought these foods because in my mind it meant I could buy more. I would totally pay no attention to the amount of the food. If you eat too much any food, you're not doing yourself any favors.
17 Eating salad is a good way of keeping my calorie (热量) intake down. But I found that only in a moment after my meals, I was looking for more food. I learnt that I was better off eating a balanced meal with a few more calories than simply eating a salad and snacking afterwards.
I was too awkward to go to the gym. Joining a gym was one of the hardest things I ever did. I was always worried that people in the gym would be staring at me and talking about me. I really thought I was too fat to join. My advice is to join a gym! 18
I set too high goals. Setting long-term goals is great, but these goals always seem too far off. You need to set smaller, more reachable goals. 19 Set yourself weekly and monthly goals. Once you meet one short-term goal, set a new one for next week.
A.I thought I'd always be fat.
B.I started eating salads as main meals.
C.But it doesn't keep you full for long.
D.I promise it will help you lose fat by exercising.
E.But I was buying these foods for the wrong reason.
F.However, if so, you're much more likely to eat more for lunch.
G.So you can achieve them now and then and cheer yourself up.
