Step 1 Lead-in

Step 2 Vocabulary Learning
1. Present the new words and phrases.
2. Let students follow and read the words, paying attention to the pronunciation.
3. Do some vocabulary exercises:Matching the words with their meanings.
Step 3 Reading Skills Instruction
1. Introduce the reading skills of skimming and scanning.
(1)Skimming: To get the main idea of the passage quickly by reading the title, headings and the first and last paragraphs.
(2)Scanning: To find specific information in the passage by looking for key words or phrases.
2. Let students practice using these two skills:Give them a short passage and ask them to skim it to find the main idea and scan it to answer some specific questions.
Step 4 Text Reading
1. Ask students to skim the text and answer some general questions: "What is the main topic of the passage " "What is the main idea of each paragraph "
2. Have them scan the text again and complete some detailed comprehension tasks, such as filling in the blanks, answering questions with short answers or choosing the correct options.
3. Explain the key sentences and paragraphs in the text to help students understand.
Step 5 Group Discussion
1. Organize students into groups and discuss the following questions:
(1)What impressed the author most about the Grand Canyon
(2)How did the author feel when seeing the Grand Canyon
(3)What do you think is the most amazing part of the Grand Canyon
2. Ask each group to select a representative to report their discussion results.
Step 6 Summary
1. Review the vocabulary and reading skills learned in this class.
2. Summarize the main content of the text, emphasizing the key points and the author's main ideas.
Step 7 Homework
1. Recite the key vocabulary and phrases.
2. Briefly retell the text in your own words.
