You need to be at the office by 8 o'clock, but instead, you're sitting in your car and stuck in a traffic jam due to unexpected construction. Or perhaps you're trying to assemble (组装) a bookcase believing it should be a simple task. Surprise! You realize you used the wrong screws in one section and now have to admit that it's much more difficult than you thought.
It makes perfect sense that you might feel frustrated in these scenes. But if that is your reaction, just how frustrated might you become “Frustration tolerance (挫折承受力)” refers to our ability to tolerate frustration, which might differ from person to person. With a low tolerance, we're quick to feel frustrated and feel it intensely. By contrast, some of us are able to live a life in accord with the old song, “Que sera, sera”—whatever will be, will be.
The pressure of frustration may lead us to simply give up on achieving a goal. And, all too often, it is low frustration tolerance that inhibits curiosity as well as our attempts to learn new skills even when we do have an interest in doing so.
Unfortunately, each time we simply give up in the face of frustration, we strengthen our tendency to give up. All too often, holding back in the face of frustration only strengthens a weakened sense of self, an internal script that we are incompetent. While this reaction may at times be a response to frustration, when frequent and pervasive, it may contribute to depression.
However, having a low tolerance for frustration is not simply a permanent character flaw (缺陷). It is a challenge that can be addressed by developing increased self-awareness, mindfulness and the patience and commitment to learning to pause when we do become frustrated. And even when we experience frustration, it's helpful to remember—it can lead to positive outcomes that move us toward new learning and innovation. When this happens, we can become more flexible when facing life's challenges—including a traffic jam and assembling a bookcase.
11.How does the author introduce the topic of the text
A.By giving examples. B.By giving definitions.
C.By raising questions. D.By making comparisons.
12.Which of the following can best reflect the theme of the song “Que sera, sera”
A.What pains us trains us.
B.Let nature take its course.
C.You win because you think you can.
D.A fall into the pit, a gain in your wisdom.
13.What is paragraph 4 mainly about
A.Frustration makes us give up easily.
B.Frustration is responsible for depression.
C.Frustration does harm to our mental health.
D.Frustration contributes to various diseases.
14.What can we learn about low tolerance for frustration from the last paragraph
A.It is a character by nature. B.It can be improved with practice.
C.It is a permanent shortcoming. D.It needs dealing with straight away.
B
Soaring 360 meters into the sky, the Trbovlje Power Station in Slovenia is home to Europe's tallest chimney. Just the mere sight of it is enough to make most tremble at the knees but two Slovenian climbers saw it as a chance of a lifetime.
In October, Janja Garnbret and Domen kofic became the first people to free climb the chimney's new route which is now the tallest artificial multi-pitch route in the world. The pair, who had just a rope to catch them if they fell, were successful at their second attempt after over seven hours of climbing. Despite their expertise, the challenge was still way out of their comfort zone. This route, however, contained 13 pitches (or sections) and involved rope techniques that differed from what they were normally used to, which was a real endurance test for the two climbers.
Their first attempt took nearly 12 hours and both climbers fell on a number of pitches. However, the pair regrouped and went again four days later, successfully climbing the chimney in seven hours and 32 minutes. Reaching the top after such a challenging climb is a feeling that neither will forget in a hurry. “It definitely helps you grow as a person,” Garnbret told CNN Sport. “It really helps because I'm a person who is always looking for a challenge, who always wants to do something new, to do something better.” “When I think back now, I remember how uncomfortable it felt, how it was hot, it was cold, it was windy, it was everything,” Garnbret added.
In addition to being an exhausting physical challenge, both agreed that it tested their mental capacity just as much.
15.What does the underlined phrase “tremble at the knees” in paragraph 1 imply
A.The chimney is extremely tall.
B.It is very cold in the power station.
C.The climbers are suffering from knees pain.
D.The wind is extremely strong.
16.How long did it take the two climbers to complete the climbing at the second attempt
A.More than a day. B.More than 13 hours.
C.Nearly 12 hours. D.About 7 and a half hours.
17.Which word can best describe the two climbers
A.Honest. B.Adventurous.
C.Responsible. D.Creative.
18.Where can we read the text
A.In a science magazine. B.In a geography book.
C.On a news network. D.In a travel brochure.

  答案:
One possible version:
The development of science and technology brings many new products which make our life more comfortable and convenient. The smart phone is a good example, which has been widely used in daily life.
The smart phone brings many advantages to my life. I have been used to listening to English and watching documentaries. Of course, I sometimes use it to relax myself. I listen to music and chat with my friends on it. I don't think using my smart phone for fun will influence me as long as I can keep the balance between study and entertainment.周测卷四 Unit 2 Looking into the future
