When Montgomery was at college, he decided to study the Chinese language. "My friends laughed at my decision. Just like most Americans, they didn't know much about China then. Who knew what China would become in the 21st century " he says.
To find a China-related job after graduating from university, he became a businessman related to US-China trade. Traveling and meeting people in different parts of China, he found that the more he learned about China, the more he was attracted by its history and culture.
When he found that there was no English podcast (播客) about Chinese history in 2010, he decided to launch one himself. He worked from home using very simple recording and editing facilities. Each of the half-hour episodes (集) took him 18 to 20 hours to research, write, record and edit.
"China has a great history. I try to get more Americans to appreciate it," says Montgomery. "There are many topics to talk about. I use my common sense to feel what will be interesting to most people."
His China History Podcast is now downloaded 1.5 million times a year, with audience from the United States, China and other countries.
"I downloaded a few episodes and discovered that they were perfect for those days when I drove a long distance. It turned the boring hours into enjoyable learning experiences," says Seligman, 62, an author who spent eight years in China. "Montgomery brings Chinese history and culture to life in a completely new way. As you listen, you often get the impression that he was a witness (见证者) to the events he described," says Seligman.
Many overseas Chinese are grateful to Montgomery for reconnecting them with their ancestral roots. And to his surprise, local Chinese are also welcoming the show as a great resource for learning English.
"After more than 25 years doing sales and marketing of ‘made in China' products, I've now become a sort of a salesman of Chinese history," says Montgomery.
4.What was Montgomery's friends' attitude towards his decision
A.Unconcerned. B.Curious. C.Unsupportive. D.Favorable.
5.How did Montgomery choose topics
A.By referring to similar works online.
B.On the basis of his own understanding.
C.Through recommendations from Chinese.
D.By using the knowledge learnt in college.
6.Which of the following can be used to describe Montgomery
A.Honest and generous. B.Focused and creative.
C.Intelligent and humorous. D.Strict and knowledgeable.
7.What is the suitable title for the text
A."Selling" Chinese History to the World
B.Bringing Chinese Together Through Podcast
C.Exploring a New Resource for Language Learning
D."Creating" History—Popularizing "Made in China" Products
【答案】4.C
5.B
6.B
7.A
My friends laughed at my decision. Just like most Americans, they didn't know much about China then. Who knew what China would become in the 21st century "我朋友嘲笑我的决定。
There are many topics to talk about. I use my common sense to feel what will be interesting to most people."
When he found that there was no English podcast (播客) about Chinese history in 2010,he decided to launch one himself. He worked from home using very simple recording and editing facilities. Each of the half-hour episodes (集) took him 18 to 20 hours to research, write, record and edit."2010年时发现我们没有关于中国历史的英语播客,他便决定自己制作一个。

Working in an industry that's constantly evolving is no small feat (技艺) for musicians. Giving fans a memorable show is crucial, and some artists are looking to virtual reality to do just that. Travis Scott for example, partnered with Fortnite to bring his virtual-reality concert, Astronomical, to a global audience. The event drew in 12 million viewers. But interest in VR concerts came earlier. In 2019, the entertainment-technology company Wave launched a multichannel virtual platform for live concerts through various digital means: video games, live streaming channels, social networks, and more. Wave has since teamed up with the likes of The Weekend, Justin Bieber, and John Legend.
The charm of such immersive concerts, by placing the audience in a digital world that stimulates both sight and sound to create an experience that makes one feel like they are truly part of the event, lies heavily in their experiment. Artists can try new ways to connect with listeners in digital environments. For fans skirting (避开) painful concert-ticket prices avoiding large crowds at venues, and experiencing their favorite musicians in an alternate world are true benefits.
VR has its downside. Only about 13% of households in the US own a VR headset so the technology isn't common. In a survey, 67% of respondents who didn't own a VR headset said its price tag kept them from buying one. Some people who paid a pretty penny have returned the headset because they simply didn't know how to set it up or didn't think the image quality was worth the cost. Discomfort is another issue: long-term use of a headset could cause discomfort in the neck and eyes, and according to the Food and Drug Administration, motion sickness is the most commonly reported negative side effect of VR. There's also the possibility of VR separating users too far from reality, which could rewire their brains if they don't moderate (使适度) headset use. However, looking ahead. Amy Dorsey, the managing director of Dorsey Pictures, said that developments in advanced digital reality would pave the way for the next version of entertainment.
8.Which artist cooperated with Fortnite to deliver a virtual-reality concert
A.Justin Bieber. B.Wave.
C.Travis Scott. D.Astronomical.
9.What does the underlined word "immersive" in paragraph 2 mean
A.Cost-effective. B.Environmentally friendly.
C.Quick and efficient. D.Engaging and surrounding.
10.Which could be a potential shortcoming of VR concerts as suggested by the text
A.VR concerts could cause a decrease in video image quality.
B.They may prevent people from attending live concerts altogether.
C.Long-time standing with VR headsets may lead to motion disability.
D.The high cost of VR headsets could limit accessibility for some fans.
11.What will the text discuss next
A.The historical development of VR technology.
B.Future directions and creations in VR.
C.Present market trends in VR headset sales.
D.Comparisons between VR and traditional concerts.
【答案】8.C
9.D
10.D
11.B
Travis Scott for example, partnered with Fortnite to bring his virtual-reality concert. Astronomical, to a global audience."
根据第二段中的"by placing the audience in a digital world that stimulates both sight and sound to create an experience that makes one feel like they are truly part of the event"它将观众置于一个数字世界中,刺激视觉和声音,创造一种让人感觉自己真正成为活动的一部分的体验。
VR has its downside. Only about 13% of households in the US own a VR headset so the technology isn't common. In a survey, 67% of respondents who didn't own a VR headset said its price tag kept them from purchasing one. Some people who paid a pretty penny have returned the headset because they simply didn't know how to set it up or didn't think the image quality was worth the cost."VR也有它的缺点。
However, looking ahead. Amy Dorsey, the managing director of Dorsey Pictures, said that developments in advanced digital reality would pave the way for the next version of entertainment."

Is forgiveness against our human nature To answer our question, we need to ask a further question: What is the nature of our humanity To put it in a simple way, people consider two completely different views of humanity. The first view is about dominance (统治) and power. In an early paper on the psychology of forgiveness, Droll (1984) made the interesting claim that humans' key nature is more aggressive (好斗的) than forgiving allows. Those who forgive are against their basic nature, much to their harm. In his opinion, forgivers are giving up their well-being as they offer kindness to others, who might then take advantage of them.
The second view focuses on the theme of cooperation, mutual respect, and even love as the basis of who we are as humans. Researchers find that to fully grow as human beings, we need both to receive love from and offer love to others. Without love, our connections with a wide range of individuals in our lives can fall apart. Even common sense strongly suggests that the will to power over others does not make for harmonious interactions. For example, how well has slavery (奴隶制) worked as a mode of social harmony
From this second viewpoint of who we are as humans, forgiveness plays a key role in the biological and psychological integrity of both individuals and communities because one of the outcomes of forgiveness, shown through scientific studies, is the decreasing of hate and the rebuilding of harmony. Forgiveness can break the cycle of anger. At least to the extent the people from whom you are keeping away accept your love and forgiveness and are prepared to make the required adjustments. Forgiveness can heal relationships and reconnect people.
As an important note, when we take a classical philosophical view, that of Aristotle, we see the difference between potentiality and actuality. We are not necessarily born with the capbility to forgive, but instead with the potential (潜能) to learn about it and to grow in our ability to forgive. The actuality of forgiving, its actual behavior in unfriendly situations, develops with practice.
12.What is Droll's idea about forgiveness
A.People should offer kindness to others.
B.People who forgive can have their own well-being affected.
C.Forgiveness depends on the nature of humanity.
D.Aggressive people should learn to forgive.
13.What does the example in Paragraph 2 display
A.To forgive is to love. B.To fight is to grow.
C.To give is to receive. D.To dominate is to harm.
14.Which of the following might the writer NOT agree with
A.Forgiveness can help us stay calm and find inner peace.
B.Improved relationship can be one of results from forgiveness.
C.Forgiveness is vital to the biological and physical integrity of humans.
D.The people accepting your forgiveness may likely make possible changes.
15.What is message of the last paragraph
A.Forgiveness is in our nature.
B.Forgiveness grows with time.
C.Actuality is based on potentiality.
D.It takes practice to forgive.
【答案】12.B
13.D
14.C
15.D
Those who forgive are against their basic nature, much to their harm. In his opinion, forgivers are giving up their well-being as they offer kindness to others, who might then take advantage of them. "那些宽恕的人违背了他们的本性,对他们造成了很大的伤害。在他看来,宽恕者放弃了自己的幸福,因为他们对别人友善,而别人可能会利用他们。可知,Droll认为宽恕他人的人会影响到自己的幸福。故选B。
13.考查推理判断。根据第二段中的"Even common sense strongly suggests that the will to power over others does not make for harmonious interactions. For example, how well has slavery (奴隶制) worked as a mode of social harmony "甚至常识也强烈表明,控制他人的意愿并不会促成和谐的互动。
Forgiveness can heal relationships and reconnect people."
"值得注意的是,当我们从古典哲学的观点,即亚里士多德的观点出发时,我们看到了潜在性和现实性之间的区别。我们不一定天生就有宽恕的能力,但我们有潜力去学习宽恕,并在宽恕的能力中成长。宽恕的现实性,即在不友好的情况下的实际行为,是随着实践而发展的。可知,本段指出宽恕的潜在性和现实性之间存在区别,宽恕是需要练习的,其能力在实践中发展。故选D。

It sounds like something from science fiction — a space journey into the vast expanse of space, heading towards Mars. While we're not quite ready to put a person on the land, the question we ask today is: 16. .
The space race saw the USA and USSR compete to achieve the first in spaceflight. The Soviet Union released Sputnik 1, an artificial satellite, before anyone else. 17. Now it appears that Mars is the heaven body of desire. While the reputation and bragging (吹嘘) rights to be the first nation to touch down is an obvious draw, there are other reasons we want to get there.
 18. You only have to look at the fossilized remains of the dinosaurs to see the benefit of finding another habitable planet. While Mars doesn't have the right conditions to call it home just yet, there's always the concept of terraforming (地球化) — changing the environment of a planet to meet our needs.
However, not everyone agrees. 19. He has said the concept of changing habitability of another planet because of the damage we have done to Earth makes no sense when we can simply terraform Earth.
It seems the main reason is the search for extraterrestrial (地球外的) life. 20. But now seemingly dead, the potential fossils could answer questions about our own evolution and that of our planet. One theory is that bacterial life on our planet didn't start here, but was carried through asteroid from Mars.
A. Leading astrophysicist Neil Tyson is one of them.
B. And the US landed on the Moon first.
C. One of these could be the survival of our species.
D. May landing on Mars inspire more people to become interested in science
E. It has been believed that, at one time, Mars was filled with life.
F. Surely inspiring a new generation to visit the stars is one reason.
G. Why are so many countries interested in going to Mars

One day, as Sam was walking home from school, he saw a new family had moved into the house next door. They had a daughter about his age named Lily. She was disabled and used a wheelchair to get around. Sam noticed that Lily seemed sad and lonely too.
The next morning, Sam decided to knock on their door and introduce himself. Lily's mother answered the door and invited him inside. When Lily saw Sam, she smiled for the first time. Sam and Lily quickly became friends, and Sam would visit her every day after school. Sometimes, they would play board games or watch movies together. Other times, Sam would help Lily with her homework.
As the years went by, Sam and Lily's friendship grew stronger. They were always there for each other, no matter what. One summer, Sam's parents lost their jobs and couldn't afford to pay the rent. They were going to have to move away. Sam was upset and didn't know what to do.

From then on, Sam and Lily promised to make the world a better place. Not only did they start volunteering at the local animal shelter and helped take care of abandoned pets, but also they visited nursing homes and spent time with the elderly residents.

Forgiveness can heal relationships and reconnect people."

The actuality of forgiving, its actual behavior in unfriendly situations, develops with practice. "值得注意的是,当我们从古典哲学的观点,即亚里士多德的观点出发时,我们看到了潜在性和现实性之间的区别。我们不一定天生就有宽恕的能力,但我们有潜力去学习宽恕,并在宽恕的能力中成长。宽恕的现实性,即在不友好的情况下的实际行为,是随着实践而发展的。可知,本段指出宽恕的潜在性和现实性之间存在区别,宽恕是需要练习的,其能力在实践中发展。故选D。
