Royal family gather at Windsor Castle for first Easter Sunday service without the Queen on April 9th.Attendees and members of the royal family wore a variety of stylish hats throughout the ceremony. It is a requirement for all women to wear hats on royal occasions. This rule dates back to the 1950s when upper class and royal women would rarely show their hair in public, according to the BBC.
Hats were originally worn for practical reasons such as protection from the sun, rain or cold weather, but quickly people wore them for other purposes. The top hat,for example, was reserved for upper-class men and was worn at formal events such as weddings and horse races.Women also used hats to signify social status, wealth and fashion. The larger the hat,the wealthier the wearer was believed to be.
In addition to status, hats played an important role in British social etiquette. Men were expected to remove their hats indoors, especially in formal settings,to show respect.Women,on the other hand, were to wear their hats until seated for dinner, but then they were expected to remove them.
But hats were not always a symbol of status and etiquette. The bowler hat, created in 1849,was worn by the working class, especially those involved in transportation. The bowler hat became an iconic item of British fashion, worn by both men and women.
Today, hats continue to be an essential part of British culture, with many old and new hat shops throughout the country. The fedora is also making a comeback among younger generations.Shopping in hat shops provides you with a glimpse of British hat.Caps, trilbies, beanies, and berets are just some of the styles available.

The ancient Chinese art known as dragon scale bookbinding(龙鳞装)dates back more than 1,000 years to the Tang Dynasty.Passed down between generations of royals(皇室成员)and upper-class families, the finished works were thought to resemble(与……类似)dragons, each page appearing like a"scale".
With few of the books surviving to the present day,the bookbinding technique was at risk of becoming lost before Beijing-based artist Zhang Xiaodong decided to research and revive(复兴) it.Using the Palace Museum's only existing dragon scale book for reference,he spent four years printing and binding to perfect his art.
One of Zhang's works is a dragon scale bookbinding version of the classic Chinese novel Dream of the Red Chamber. The 120-chapter book comes with recreations of 230 images by Qing Dynasty artist Sun Wen.Combining ancient folding and cutting techniques with modern technology,Zhang printed pictures and text onto paper at a factory before cutting them to recreate Sun's paintings.

People often talk about cultural differences between western and eastern countries, but how about the western world itself?Surprisingly,a closer look at it can reveal a good many curious details.
The most obvious characteristic of the majority of Americans is that they smile a lot.It does not matter whether they have a strong reason to smile;they do it,sometimes simply because they have to.A smile is not just a powerful marketing tool but also a way to show that someone is friendly, and that life in general is fine.Europeans,on the contrary(相反),prefer to keep a more neutral(不带感彩的)facial expression. They smile mostly when they are in a good mood,or feel amused;if not,a European's face will remain neutral,or even dull.In Russia, for example, there is a proverb saying that laughing for no reason is a sign of a fool.It does not mean that Europeans are serious,or that they do not have a sense of humor.
The same refers to communication in general.Americans are extremely communicative;small talks and chats are common.Europeans talk mostly when there is something to say,and rarely enter communication just for the purpose of talking to other people.American people prefer to express what they think carefully, considering how it might affect surrounding people.Europeans are more straightforward, even with unfamiliar people.A European friend will almost always voice his opinion on different occasions, and will not hesitate to remind you that you need to lose some weight or take a shower.
It can be said that Americans are people of contrasts. They are open-minded,flexible,and ready to accept everything new enthusiastically;but at the same time,American society manages to bring up unbelievable conservatives(保守者).Americans are extremely politically correct, which,in most cases,is indeed a secure and beneficial practice, but it can also mess up daily or even private communication, sometimes preventing having close relationships.Europeans,on the contrary, are more straightforward, preferring to tell the truth in direct ways. Each way of communication is different—neither is correct or incorrect.

As part of Zhang's"scientific approach",he visited old towns and heritage sites to source materials traditionally used in bookbinding, such as ricepaper, bamboo, silk and wood. Then came the most important and difficult part of the binding process:controlling the placement of each page.In order to create a complete picture, each sheet of paper needs to be placed in exactly the right place.Zhang said that a mistake of just a hundredth of a centimeter can produce a huge, visible error when a book's hundreds of pages are displayed together.
Despite Zhang's efforts, dragon scale bookbinding remains an endangered art.But Ying Kwok, founder of the Art Appraisal Club,is encouraged by growing efforts in China to preserve the country's cultural heritage."There has always been an interest in traditional Chinese art but now there are more young people interested in experimental and modern takes on traditional techniques, "she said. "It shows how a younger generation of artists can actually use traditional formats to respond to their surroundings. "

It is the year 1026,the time of the Song Dynasty. You are training to become a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) doctor. You are about to take your final exam. What kind of thing will you face?
During the Song Dynasty, doctors needed to show they understood meridians (经络) –paths of energy running through the body
If you were the one to take the exam, you would be asked to show how you would treat symptoms (症状) on a life-sized model covered in wax (蜡).Under the wax,the model would be made of bronze (铜),filled with water, and covered in holes running along the meridian paths.
You would need to place an acupuncture needle (针灸用的针) into the correct part of a meridian to pass the exam.If you got it right, the needle would go straight through the hole, and water would pour out of the model. If you picked the wrong spot, the needle would hit the bronze model and that would be that – failed.
The exams wanted to make sure all young doctors knew how to treat patients by hitting the same correct acupuncture points.
