Auckland University Online Education — What to Expect
Most Auckland University(AU)online programs are 100 percent online so that students do not come to the school campus. Instead, AU has designed a media-rich, easy-to-use learning environment through a Learning Management System(LMS).
Discipline (纪律)
With disciplined work habits, you are likely to succeed as an online student. It is up to you to log on to your course and meet your own deadlines.
Time Management
In order to earn competitive grades, plan on spending a minimum of 20-25 hours a week on each course. AU courses operate on a seven-week schedule, with start dates in January, March, May, July, September and November. Students are able to complete two courses per semester by taking one seven-week course at a time.
Professional Connections
Many of the AU faculty (教员)who teach online have connections to industry, so the online learning environment ensures access to diverse expertise and practice. It includes an extensive network of professionals in a variety of industries.

To this paper-cutting artist, Shi Qinling, scissors are like what brushes are to painters, or what pens are to writers. Always having a pair of scissors on her also allows her to create art whenever inspiration hits. “Some people like to pen their feelings in diaries. I prefer to cut them out,” says the 35-year-old, who is currently working at the Fenglin community cultural activity center in Shanghai.
Shi developed an interest in handicraft when she was a child who often found herself alone at home. Out of boredom, she would play with paper, folding and cutting them into different shapes. This interest later developed into a passion, one that she decided to pursue by majoring in arts and crafts design during her time in university.
After graduation, however, she found herself working at a ship design company as she was unsure about what she wanted to do with her future. About a year later, the Shanghai Arts and Crafts Research Institute offered her a position in their paper-cutting department. Realizing that she still had a love for the craft, she
altered her career.
In 2010, she started learning paper-cutting from Xi Xiaoqin, the national inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage for paper-cutting. Three years later, one of her works, The Fighting Fish, won third place at the Baihua Cup, a competition for Chinese arts and crafts. Six years later, Shi was named a Shanghai paper-cutting inheritor and became the city’s “youngest inheritor” of the paper-cutting heritage.
What can we learn about Shi from Paragraph 1
A.Scissors are significant for her for artistic expression.
B.Scissors are important for her for self-protection.
C.She creates art by drawing whenever she has inspiration.
D.She is a paper-cutting artist as well as a painter and writer.
25. Why did Shi work at a ship design company after graduation
A.She majored in ship design in university.
B.She was at a loss what to do in the future.
C.She was sure that she loved to design ships.
D.She wanted to be an inheritor of the company.
26. What does the underlined word “altered” in Paragraph 3 probably mean
A.Adopted. B.Hatched. C.Reformed. D.Changed.
27. What can we infer from Shi’s experience
A. Pride goes before a fall. B. Interest is the best teacher.
C. It’s never too late to learn. D. All roads lead to Rome.

Constant noodles have been a go-to food for students for decades. After all, they only take eight minutes to cook in a dorm hotpot and are easy on the budget. Holly Grounds, a recent project design graduate who used to eat a lot of constant noodles when she studied, started thinking that the packaging of a product shouldn't take decades or more to be broken down. That was why she decided to make eatable wrappers(包装材料)for constant noodles, avoiding the need for plastic.
Grounds wanted to produce a product that the user could watch actually melt
in the pot. "While other bio-based alternatives to plastic claim to be able to be broken down, in a consumer's eyes, it's not always that simple," she said. " Many of the bio-based films are only broken down at 50 degrees Celsius, so they often end up in the wrong place without the consumer really knowing that they cause damage to the planet."
Now, instead of plastic packs of seasonings, the dried spices and flavorings(调味品)are part of a flavorless bioplastic film that wraps the noodles and keeps them fresh. The film melts in less than a minute when it comes into boiling water, and the liquid becomes the sauce for the noodles.
"The sauce is heated until the mixture is thick enough. At this point, I add the spices and flavorings before pouring it into a mold(模子)to set for 24 hour,"Grounds said. These noodle parcels are then packaged in wax-coated paper bags.
With plastics taking hundreds of years to be broken down, eatable packaging and single-use articles are seen as the way to go. Grounds sees opportunities to use her eatable packaging for other ready meals and she wants to contribute to the global fight against single-use plastics.
28. Why does Grounds want to replace plastic wrappers with eatable ones
A. The plastic ones do harm to our health.
B. The plastic ones are not eco-friendly.
C. The eatable ones appeal to more consumers.
D. The eatable ones save more cooking time.
29. What makes the bio-based films fail to be broken down in practice
A. The immature technology.
B. The high cost of the process.
C. Their specific condition for being broken down.
D. Their very special material composition.
30.What do we know about the eatable wrapper according to Paragraph 3
A. It ensures longer preservation time.
B. It requires a special cooking method.
C. It improves the nutrition of noodles.
D. It ends up as the sauce for food.
31. The fourth paragraph mainly talks about the ______ the eatable noodle wrappers.
A. the process of making
B. the method of using
C. the packaging design for
D. the storage requirements for
D
Some people often wonder whether they are fighting a battle with their genes to maintain a healthy weight. In fact, researchers have provided plenty of evidence that people are born with tendencies to be lighter or heavier. For example, studies of identical twins have revealed great similarity in their overall weight. Part of this similarity may be explained by the finding that some people are born to burn a lot of calories just through ordinary day-to-day activities while others are not. Those who are not are more at risk for weight gain.
Researchers have discovered some of the actual genetic mechanisms (机制) that may make some individuals more likely to be obese (肥胖的). For example, a gene has been found that appears to control signals to the brain that enough fat has been stored in the body in the course of a meal — so the individual should stop eating. The gene influences the production of leptin (瘦蛋白), which keeps appetite under control. If leptin doesn’t work well, it is likely that individuals will continue to eat. Thus the gene that controls leptin appears to have a critical influence on the potential for obesity.
The confirmation that leptin plays a role in weight control has encouraged researchers to identify and understand other weight-related genes. Recent attention has focused on a gene called GAD2. GAD2 helps control the amount of the euro-transmitter (神经递质) GABA.In general, when more GABA is available, appetite is increased. For that reason, people who have a form of GAD2 that allows more GABA to be available may be at risk for overeating. You can see that GAD2
is not directly an obesity gene. Rather it has an indirect influence on obesity through its direct influence on GABA.
Genetic research holds out the promise of innovative solutions to obesity. Researchers hope that an understanding of the link between genes and weight control will enable them to provide new drug treatments. Nonetheless, even the most optimistic researchers provide a warning: “Innovative drugs will be effective only when they are used along with lifestyle changes.”
What does the author want to explain by giving the example of twins
Being fat or thin is genetically related
It is hard to maintain a healthy weight.
The twins are usually of similar weight.
An individual body can burn calories.
33.What can make an individual more likely to put on weight
A.Poor appetite. B.All varieties of GAD2
C.Extra amount of GABA. D.Effective leptin.
34.What do researchers suggest people do
A.Adopt advanced means. B.Learn more about genetic effects.
C.Change the weight-related gene. D.Keep good living habits.
35.What is the text mainly about
A.What impact does eating have on weight
B.How does genetics contribute to obesity
C.How many genes determine who is obese
D.Why do many people become overweight

My Favorite Money Saving Tips
One of the things that many folks want to do is better money habits. I'm pretty good about my saving, and fairly responsible in my spending. So as many of you all probably want to "save more money" or "spend less money",I wanted to share
my saving tips with you.
Manage your debt. 36 . If you have credit card debt, pay this down before you start doing any other savings. If you have several cards with debt, try the laddering technique. Start by paying down your debt on the highest interest card you have.Once that balance is at zero,go to the next highest percent card and so on.
37 Life can throw at you unexpected expenses that can easily add up quickly. One of your main savings goals should be to build an emergency fund. You should have ready﹣to﹣go﹣in liquid cash,6﹣9 months of living expenses for a rainy day. 38 But don't invest the money. Make sure you can access this money in an absolute emergency.
Spend your cash. Seems crazy but it's true! This is especially helpful to those who tend to be impulsive (冲动的) shoppers. Figure out your monthly budget, and divide it by 4. Add this amount to your wallet each week and only spend the cash. 39 Studies have shown that you are more likely to spend less money when you have to physically pull the cash out.
Keep your extra cash in a high yield(收益) savings account. Though it's rare to find a bank that provides a large interest rate on savings, right now you can get another 0.1% to 0.25% interest . 40
A.Get an emergency fund.
B.Avoid unnecessary expenses.
C.Don't touch the credit cards.
D.You must make this a priority.
E.But remember to check it from time to time.
F.It's a great way to add a little extra income to your money.
G.This amount should be kept in your high﹣yield savings account.
