tiny gesture, she had given a young man a 25 to keep on living.

三、阅读理解(本大题共 10 小题,每小题 2.5 分,共 25 分)
A
For students in Mulan Primary School in Fuping County, Hebei Province, the past 18 years
went by along with music, which was impossible for them before Deng Xiaolan became their
music teacher. They have got a chance of singing on the opening and closing ceremonies of the
Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games. That might be the biggest stage in their life. The changes
were because of Deng, who passed away at age 79 on March 21, 2022.
Deng’s father Deng Tuo, a famous reporter, used to work for the Jinchaji Daily during the
1940s in Malan. At that time Deng was born. However, her parents had to fight against the
Japanese enemy so they could not stay with her and left her with local farmers until she was three.
That was why Deng always regarded Malan as her second home.
In 2003, Malan Village welcomed back the special guest. This was when changes in Malan
children’s life took place. Deng advised some local children to sing a song, but they could not sing
anything. Feeling sad, she came up with an idea of teaching these kids to sing.
After retiring in 2004, Deng went back to Malan and volunteered as a music teacher in a local
primary school. Two years later, she set up the first choir. In 2013, the first “Malan Music Festival”
was held, and the festival has been held every year since then.
The team that was responsible for Beijing 2022 opening and closing ceremonies heard about
Malan children’s story, and invited them to sing the Olympic Anthem. As Deng expected, her
students showed their confidence on the Olympic stage. Their voices touched the world.
“Our mother spent most of her last 18 years in Malan. Being a volunteer music teacher
brought her happiness and satisfaction,” Deng’s children said. “They performed well at the
ceremonies of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games and were praised by the world. That made
her very happy. She left the world on a high note. This is the biggest comfort for our family.”
26.What was completely new to the children in Malan 18 years ago
A.Going to primary school. B.Studying in a new school.
C.Watching the Olympic Games. D.Learning to play music or sing.
27.Which paragraph tells why Deng had special feelings for Malan
A.Paragraph 1. B.Paragraph 2. C.Paragraph 3. D.Paragraph 4.

Gossip is the information passed from one person to another about other people’s lives. You
may think gossip is awful. Even dictionary suggests that it is often unkind or untrue, but this
common idea is unreasonable.
Firstly, a study by Robbins and Karan shows that gossip is common but much of it is just
people sharing information. For their study, 467 people’s conversations were recorded. Robbins
and Karan found that, on average, these people gossiped for 52 minutes a day, with 75% of the
time spent communicating non-evaluative (非评价性的 ) information. Only about 14 % of the
gossip was thought malicious, a much smaller percentage (百分比 ) than the common idea
suggests, although to be fair, that was almost double the percentage of positive (积极的) gossip.
Scientists consider gossip to be an important reason why people in the old times were able to
stay alive. It helped spread important news, it also provided information about who was
trustworthy and who might not work well with others in a group. It allowed humans to build small
communities with those who could be trusted, ensuring a greater chance of living. Today, it seems
that not much has changed. Gossip still allows us to develop relationships and find out who we
can work with best. Gossip also explains the rules of our society. When we hear someone criticize
a person’s behaviour, it is obvious that such behaviour is unacceptable and should not be copied.
That’s not to say we should pay attention to everything we hear, but it gives us direction.
Of course, these days, our world is changing the nature of gossip. Our networks are now
larger, and some gossip can spread like wildfire. And problems come up when gossip includes
untrue information. This kind of gossip can destroy people’s lives.

So scientists say that it’s important to share information that can’t hurt others. If we fail to do
this, people will see us as someone who can’t be trusted and may even avoid us. Similarly,
gossiping to improve one’s own place in society is unacceptable. It’s best to share information that
may act as a warning to others or encourage them to behave better. It’s these things that normally
push people together rather than make them turn away from each other.

from the cloud and thunder (雷声) shapes in the Western Zhou Dynasty. The dragon fin is based
on a Tang Dynasty (618–907) artifact (历史文物) which looks like a moving gold dragon.
The color of “Loong Chenchen” has special Chinese name, “Chengxia”. It means red or
rosy clouds in English and 47 (stand) for youth and strength (力量 ). The color of
“Chengxia” is a symbol of spring, hope and growth.
