Growing evidence shows that dancing can improve brain health and help manage signs of mental and movement disorders, including Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and brain injury. To put it another way, dancing can improve lives in a physical, cognitive (认知的) and social way.
Helena Blumen, a cognitive scientist, says the mental multitasking that dance requires involves various parts of the brain at the same time, and requires more brain power than simpler repetitive exercises. In dance, we have to learn patterns; we have to think in an all-around way; we have to remember the movements.
While scientists are still learning how dancing work in the brain, a clearer picture is beginning to appear. In 2018, researchers in Germany carried out a research on older adults who had participated in one of two programs over a six-month period. One group practiced dance and the other did a traditional exercise program with cycling and strength training. While both groups improved their level of physical fitness, the dancers grew more white and gray matter in the parts of the brain responsible for cognitive processes, such as attention and high-level thinking. Both white and gray matter typically fall when we get older, making communication and certain cognitive tasks, such as multitasking and problem-solving, more difficult.
In addition to the physical benefits, dancing can also help people build body acceptance. Dawnia Baynes, 44, developed MS (多发性硬化症) in 2006. Now she suffers from severe muscle tightness and balance issues, which make standing and walking difficult. She recently joined an online dance program. Not only has it improved her balance and range of movement, it has also helped her overcome her fear of being judged for how she moves, in the class and out in the world.
Still, researchers say they’re only having a limited understanding of how dancing can be used in medical treatment. Larger studies are needed to confirm the findings of the smaller experiments that have been done so far.
8. According to Paragraph 2, which word can be used to describe dancing
A. Demanding. B. Necessary. C. Delightful. D. Common.
9. What does the research in Germany suggest about the effects of dancing on the brain
A. Dancing reverses brain damage. B. Dancing increases cognitive abilities.
C. Dancing slows down the aging process. D. Dancing improves balance and posture.
10. What is the additional benefit of dancing mentioned in the passage
A. Helping with body acceptance. B. Relieving stress and anxiety.
C. Enhancing creativity. D. Improving physical health.
11. Which section of a newspaper is the passage most likely taken from
A. Travel and Tourism. B. Opinion and Commentary.
C. International Affairs. D. Health and Entertainment.

My mom is the greatest mom ever! As I grew up, I saw her as my hero for all the things she would do for me. I remember when she would fix my baby dolls or when she helped me color pretty pictures when I started elementary school. I remember in middle school, I would see her do things that fathers were supposed to do, like fixing the car without caring how greasy (油污的) her hands would get. Now that I’m in high school, I see how she is strong but sensitive at the same time. She looks at life with a positive attitude no matter what the situation is.
One day I came home from school and saw papers on the kitchen table and my mom sitting with a worried face looking at my dad. My dad wasn’t working at the time because he had broken his arm. I had heard my parents talk about money issues a couple of times before but I never asked about the situation. “What’s going on ” I asked. “We have to be out of the house in two weeks,” my mom said. She had her elbows on the table and one hand over her forehead. Then I realized this was a serious problem. That very day, she made phone calls and started to look for a place to rent.
We had no money and no idea what we were going to do. I read the papers on the table; it said we had lost the house because we hadn’t been paying rent. I was surprised that all this was going on and my dad seemed to be doing nothing about it and my mom never said anything about it.

Dear Tom,
How is everything going It’s my great privilege to record a short video about my campus life for your Culture Week. I’m writing to tell you what will be included in the video.
First of all, as a student, taking different classes is my daily routine, so I would like to record a scene focusing on one of my Chinese classes to show my academic life and Chinese culture. In addition, a wide variety of extra-curricular activities are held every day in my school and therefore showing my after-school activities is also in my plan, from which your schoolmates can learn the diversity of Chinese high school life.
I wish such a video could live up to your expectations. If there is anything that needs improving, please don’t hesitate to tell me. Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
It seemed like everything was falling apart but my mom seemed as if this was making her stronger.

【答案】
It seemed like everything was falling apart, but my mom seemed as if this was making her stronger. That whole week she tried her best to find a place for rent, never showing a hint of the toll it took on her. Even though she didn’t show it, I felt my mom’s pain and how much it hurt her to not be able to provide a good shelter for us. After witnessing her struggle throughout the week, I returned home to find her standing in the kitchen, a rare smile gracing her face as she busily cooked. It was odd, because she doesn’t like to cook.
I assumed there was good news and asked her, “So what’s new ” “We are starting to move today,” she said with a smile on her face. “There’s a place near your school and thank God they allowed all of us even though the place is pretty small.” I could tell she was relieved and happy. At that moment, I admired her so much. My mom is the greatest mom ever. Faced with trouble, some people might give up. My mom looks at bad moments in life as a test, or a chance to make her stronger. I’m proud for having such a wonderful mother like her.
