One afternoon in 2022, something on the Internet caught my eye:a tiny hedgehog (刺猬) held by a big hand. The post read: “HELP! My hedgehog abandoned (抛弃) her two babies, and I cannot raise both of them because I have to go to school full time. Good home with experience needed as soon as possible!”
I had no experience with baby hedgehogs. I was an animal person through and through and had raised cats, dogs, birds, and guinea pigs. But this tiny animal was new to me, and it touched me that he was abandoned, that maybe I could love him and be the best mom for him.
I wrote the most heartfelt email I could. That was how I found my Louie. True to my word, he was my baby. Louie didn’t know he was a hedgehog. He never curled (蜷缩) into a ball, and he liked my two cats, no fear. The cats, however, were afraid of him, as he often moved into the room, running after the cats and blocking my way.
By the time he reached old age, Louie had only three feet. However, he still managed to climb the stairs to visit other animals. He helped me realize my dream of hedgehog photography, a hobby that began during childhood with cats and dollhouses. I love showing off his modeling.
Life has meaning because of the purpose we have. Louie needed a good home and mom, and in return, I got to be a good mother and be needed. Hedgehogs require great amounts of patience, trust, and knowledge—but the payoff (回报) is pretty great.
4. The author got Louie from .
A. a pet shop B. a family friend
C. a hedgehog owner D. a hedgehog rescue center
5. How did Louie seem to feel at the author’s home
A. Frightened. B. Relaxed. C. Lonely. D. Tired.
6. What can we learn about Louie from paragraph 4
A. He disliked climbing stairs. B. He enjoyed being left alone.
C He always refused to be in photos. D. He was active despite his difficulty in moving.
7. What does the author say about raising Louie
A. It was easier than expected. B. It gave her a sense of safety.
C. It made her lose her patience. D. It was satisfying and meaningful.
C
Do you love seeing beautiful lanterns outside The best time to do this is during the Lantern Festival, which falls on the 15th day of the first lunar (阴历) month. This year it is on Feb22, marking the end of Spring Festival celebrations.

Watching lanterns is a great event. You see lanterns in any sizes and shapes you can imagine, from animals to plants and flowers. In some places, people like releasing sky lanterns, which are called Kongming lanterns. When the bright lights fly high in the sky, people bless family members and make wishes. Releasing river lights is also a way to bless for each other. Usually, the lights are in the shape of a lotus (荷花).
In old times, the Lantern Festival was also romantic. At that time, young girls were not allowed to go out very often except during certain festivals. After bikes and umbrellas are made sharable across China, some companies started eyeing the fitness market, so shared gym rooms have hit the streets in Beijing.
Unlike common gyms that provide large, open spaces for many members to share at the same time, the newly built shared gym rooms are small, stand-alone (独立的) rooms for a person to use, often set up near living communities.
Every four-square-meter room provides a treadmill (跑步机) an air cleaner, a mirror, a television and an air conditioner, and users can let down the curtains (窗 帘) for privacy. When exercising, users can listen to music, watch movies and check emails by connecting to the Internet by the screen fixed on the treadmill. But there’s no shower.
Similar to using a shared bike, users can locate (定位) a shared gym room by a smartphone app, book a room in advance and then need to scan a QR code (二维码) for use. A refundable deposit (保证金) of 99 yuan is required, and users are charged 1 yuan every 5 minutes.
The shared gym rooms are created by Misspao, a Beijing-based technology company founded in July. Within several months since it was founded, the company has already raised over 100 million yuan. However, the idea of the shared fitness experience is not totally nascent. Last December, the company VRUN set up shared treadmills in office and apartment buildings.
The sharing economy is still becoming popular in China. According to Yicai Global, confident people are pouring millions into sharing start-ups. In March, the State Information Center published a report which predicts that the total value of China’s sharing economy will see a yearly growth of 40% in the coming years, and it is expected to make a great contribution to the country’s GDP.
12. What makes the shared gym room different from the common one
A. Holding one person at a time. B. Standing in the living zone.
C. Offering open spaces. D. Having some advanced equipment.
13. What do people need to do to use the shared gym room
A. Let down curtains for privacy.
B. Pay 100 yuan first.
C. Use a smartphone to book a room ahead of time.
D. Have a shower before exercise.
14. What does the underlined word “nascent” in paragraph 5 mean
A. Simple. B. Popular. C. Satisfying. D. New.
15. What is the author’s purpose of writing the text
A. To advertise a technology company. B. To introduce shared gym rooms.
C. To support the shared gym rooms. D. To predict the future of shared gym rooms.

To make this activity more fun, people paste (粘贴) riddles (谜语) on the lanterns. “Ten plus ten, still is ten, ten minus ten, again is ten.” Guess what It is a pair of gloves.
In some places, people like releasing sky lanterns, which are called Kongming lanterns. A sky lantern is a small hot air balloon made of paper, with an opening at the bottom, where there is a small fire source.
Every four-square-meter room provides a treadmill (跑步机), an air cleaner, a mirror, a television and an air conditioner, and users can let down the curtains (窗 帘) for privacy.

【答案】1 One possible version:
One month ago, I couldn’t balance rest and study even though I knew that my schedule was not well-organized. As a result, I often felt tired, anxious and stressed. It made a bad difference to my physical and mental heath.
Then I read an article that made a difference to me. I tried to keep a balance between rest and study and things began to change. Rather than studying all the time, I began to spare some time to have a rest. Instead of doing my homework all the day, I went to play football for an hour a day. Rather than comparing myself with my classmates, I would stick to my own arrangements.
Now, I became refreshed and energetic. And I study more efficiently than before.
2 One possible version:
In the past, I used to feel tired, anxious and stressed at senior high school at first because I was too sleepy to focus on my study. It made a bad difference to my physical and mental heath.
Then, I read a book which changed my mind. Instead of worrying about my study, I would make a schedule for my study and finish the to-do list. Rather than being anxious the whole day, I would chat with my teachers.
Finally, I stopped feeling worried about my study. Instead, I would be more confident. By being positive about my study, I became happier and healthier.
