Finally came Wednesday! I walked onto campus feeling nervous even though I had walked these same grounds for two years because my junior high school is next door. Everything looked and felt different now that I was in senior high.
I looked at my schedule. First period — German. Our German teacher was very friendly and I liked her from the beginning. What I didn't like though, was that I was surrounded by students from other grades, with only five familiar faces.
Then I had to walk all the way across campus and up three flights of stairs to get to my second period — biology. Our teacher's name is peau, and I think that she will teach us a lot this year because she is very to the point. She also has her unique way of saying “be quiet,” she says “alligator.” She explained that she is the king, or should I say queen, of the class because alligators are the“king of the swamps (沼泽).”
My third class was English. After surviving two periods without too much of a challenge, I began to feel good. However, the third period changed everything. Mr.V.,my English teacher, told us that we would have to write 40 essays (文章) and read AP-level books such as The Odyssey this year. I love reading and writing, but 40 ESSAYS AP-level books Now I was scared. He also talked about how important it was to be focused. Last year was not a very “focused”year for me. While doing homework, I was often talking on the phone, or busy with a conversation on Facebook. I planned on stepping it up this year because I wanted to stay an honor student.
4. What did the author mainly write about in this passage
A. Her new teachers. B. Her plan for the new year.
C. Her first day of senior high. D. Her schedule for Wednesday.
5. What should students do when peau says "alligator"
A. Sit still. B. Stop talking.
C. Listen to the teacher. D. Look at the blackboard.
6. How did the author find her first two classes
A. Unattractive. B. Informative.
C. Very tiring. D. Pretty easy.
7. Why did the author feel scared during the third period
A Because she couldn't focus on her work.
B. Because she found the class demanding.
C. Because she didn't like the teacher.
D. Because she did poorly at school.
C
The last attempt of Ken Campbell to run could date back to high school. When his wife, Susan, injured her foot, she needed support to rejoin her running group, so Campbell went along to keep her company in the recovery.” We were just walking at the beginning,” he says, “I was heavy, and weighed over 90kg.” But as the weeks and months passed, the weight fell away, Susan recovered and Campbell’s abilities grew. At the age of 63, he ran 50km, and at 70, he completed a 100km ultramarathon.
So how does someone with no experience of running become an ultradistance runner in his 60s and 70s Susan had run marathons before her injury, but for Campbell, the turning point came when Susan’s Fleet Feet running group started training near their home.
Campbell went out to visit Susan’s group, and “the paths were a terrible mess. It had been raining, and I was slipping, sliding and falling. But I thought, well, I like this a lot.” What he liked above all was the feeling of “being wrapped by the path, being hugged by the closeness of the plants and the nearness of the river”.
Running the 100km ultramarathon took Campbell 16 hours. When Campbell crossed the finish line, Susan handed hima100km sticker to display on the back of his truck. “It is a public statement that you are part of this community,” he says. “Wherever we park, I see a line of vehicles with their various stickers and I feel that we area community.”
Campbell suffered from arthritis before he started running, and was “waiting for knee replacement”, but for now, he no longer needs an operation. It can put an end to the running—but the “sense of wellbeing and achievement will carry me on forever”, he says, “If I can’t run, I will walk.”
8. What is Paragraph 1 mainly about
A. What led to Campbell’s weight loss.
B. What made Campbell start running.
C. Why Campbell attempted to run marathon.
D. What Campbell did for Susan’s recovery.
9. What was the turning point for Campbell
A. Susan’s starting training. B. Falling down when training.
C. Feeling free in nature. D. His visit to Susan’s group.
10. What did the 100km sticker mean to Campbell
A. A sense of belonging. B. Encouragement from his wife.
C. A sense of achievement. D. Display of his happiness.
11. What can we learn from the passage
A. Well begun is half done. B. It is never too late to begin.
C. Failure is the mother of success. D. Actions speak louder than words.
D
There are well-documented mental health benefits to pet ownership, as much research has shown. Indeed, we know there are some physical benefits as well, as dog owners tend to have more active lifestyles. Yet when it comes to conditions like allergies (过敏), we tend to think of pet ownership as exacerbating, not alleviating them.
Hence, a recent study published in the journal PLOS One might come as a surprise. The study, published Wednesday, found that children raised with cats and dogs early in life had a 13 to 16 % lower risk of developing all food allergies than those who did not own pets.
The researchers engaged in a detailed survey, studying 65,000 children. They found that children who were exposed to dogs either during fetal (胎儿) development, or up to the age of 3 years old were less likely to have nut, milk and egg allergies.
This wasn’t true for other pets that weren’t cats and dogs. Indeed, the same research found that children exposed to hamsters during this same period had an increased risk of nut allergies. Yet children who were exposed to cats during their early years were likewise less likely to develop specific allergies — namely, allergies to wheat, soybean and egg.
While the study is not the final word on the issue — the researchers note “further studies using oral food challenges are required to more accurately assess the incident of food allergies” — it reinforces preexisting research on the seemingly funny ways that cats influence human development.
In addition to adding to the growing body of scientific literature about pets and human health, the PLOS One also reinforces earlier research about the role of the environment in developing allergies. The research repeatedly found that exposure to farmyard dirt, dust and the various fine hairs that fly off animals helps children in their breathing system development.
12. What does the underlined word “exaccrbating” in paragraph 1 best mean
A. Worsening. B. Damaging.
C. Improving. D. Benefiting.
13. What agrees with the result of the recent research
A. Kids over 3 will have more food allergies.
B. Hamsters cause the most allergies to children.
C. All pet ownership will not reduce food allergies.
D. Cat owners are less likely to be allergic than dog owners.
14. What is the author’s attitude to the PLOS One study
A. Satisfied. B. Objective.
C. Doubtful. D. Unconcerned.
15. What is a best title for the text
A. Benefits brought by raising animals
B. Pet ownership making kids healthier
C. Researches on different food allergies
D. Dogs and cats reducing kids’ allergies

小作文答案
Dear Jack,
Having received your letter saying that you’re enthusiastic about Chinese Spring Festival and want to know about it, I’m glad to tell you something about it.
As you know, the Spring Festival is the most important festival in China, just like Christmas in the west. It falls on the last day of the lunar year and lasts until the Lantern Festival. Before the festival comes, people clean and decorate their houses to welcome the New Year. On New Year’s Eve, people usually get together to watch annual Spring Festival Gala Evening on TV while eating delicious food. During the festival, people go from house to house to pay a New Year visit to their relatives and friends. As a child, I like the Spring Festival very much because I can set off firecrackers and get red paper with lucky money in it representing the good luck in the following year from my parents and relatives as well. How do you like the Spring Festival I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours,
Li Hua
读后续写答案:
After reading the diary, the son’s eyes were filled with tears. He began to reflect on the days when he used to sit together with his father. His father would patiently answer the same question all 23 times without feeling irritated while his father asked him the same question just 4 times! The son thought to himself: If I attain old age, how will my son look at me Will he think of me as a burden Will he shout at me because of my poor sight, poor hearing or poor understanding Feeling ashamed, the son got down on his knees before his father. He made an apology to his father, begging his father to forgive him for his bad behavior. He said this aloud, “I promise to see you happy forever, Dad.”
