一、形容词、副词最高级的构成规则
构成方法 原级 最高级
单音节和少数双音节单词 一般在词尾直接加-est tall, short, long, old, hard, fast tallest, shortest, longest, oldest, hardest, fastest
以字母e结尾的词直接加-st nice, fine, large, close, late nicest, finest, largest, closest, latest
以重读闭音节结尾的词, 如末尾只有一个辅音字母, 应先双写该字母，再加-est big, hot, thin biggest, hottest, thinnest
构成方法 原级 最高级
单音节和少数双音节单词 以“辅音字母+y” 结尾的词，先把y变成i, 再加-est busy, easy, early busiest, easiest, earliest

二、形容词和副词的最高级的用法
比较范围常用介词of, in, among等构成的短语表示。一般情况下，如果主语与介词短语中的名词属于同一类，用介词of；如果不是同一类，则用介词in。如：
Liu Jun ran (the) fastest in the race.
Tina is the most outgoing in her family.
Jim jumps (the) highest of all the boys.
形容词的最高级前一般要加定冠词the，而副词的最高级前定冠词the可加，可不加。但如果其最高级前有形容词性物主代词或名词所有格时，则不再用定冠词the。如：
My best friend Mary is from the US.
Her youngest daughter is eleven years old.
【温馨提示】有时最高级和比较级可以转换。如：

The longest railway
The Trans-Siberian Railway is the longest railway in the world. You can go from Moscow, the capital of Russia, to Vladivostok on the east coast. It is not the fastest way to travel from Moscow to Vladivostok, but it is the most interesting and also the most comfortable way.
