At nearly 60, one might start planning for the life after retirement(退休), but not Katrine Haynes. The grandmother of 11 thought there was no better time than her late 50s to follow her dream of becoming a Virgin Atlantic flight attendant(空中服务员).
Haynes is now 60 years old. She became a ticket agent(票务代理) for the airline when she was about twenty years old. After working as a ticket agent for about ten years, she wanted to change her job. But it was hard then because she had a family to support(维持). She was afraid of losing her job. After all, the pay was good and it wasn't easy to become a flight attendant.
27 years later, her children had their own families and she no longer needed to worry about them. So she thought it was the right time for her to make a change. Though the test was difficult, it didn't deter her. After a long interview, she got the job after beating out around 2,000 other applicants(申请者).

I love reading and writing, and both of these things seem to run in our family. We all love reading good books, and there is even a writer among(在……之中) us! My aunt, Nicola Morgan, has published(出版) over 90 books. Here's our conversation about her writing.
When did you know that you wanted to be a writer
I just always wrote, without thinking about wanting to be a writer, until I was 20 and then I decided to be a novelist. 21 years later, I was successful!
What is your favourite kind of book to write and why
Novels. Writing novels is more difficult than writing non fiction(纪实文学), but novels make me feel happier. So I like writing novels better!
Where do you do most of your writing
In my lovely garden office! It has a big glass wall and all I can see are trees, plants and flowers. And rabbits and birds.
I get away from my computer. I never think of a new idea when I'm at my desk. Ideas come all the time when I'm just walking about the house or talking to other people. But most ideas never end up being used. I have three today!

Jess in Wasted. Or maybe Livia in Sleepwalking. Or maybe Matilda in The Passionflower Massacre. I can't decide.
