【教学重点】
To be able to write a passage about accidents.
【教学难点】
Through listening, speaking and writing, let students practise the past continuous tense.

Teaching Procedures:
Step 1 Language practice
用适当单词补全句子。
1. To master the structure of the past continuous tense by filling the blanks.
1) While the lights ______________ to red, a car suddenly appeared round the corner.
2) When Henry ___________ to find the snake, his hand began to hurt badly.
3) I ___________ to pick it up when it bit me again.
2. Summary
过去进行时除了和at ... last night, then, at that time等时间状语连用外,还可以和when或while引导的过去时间状语从句连用。
1. 如果主句的动作是延续性的,而从句的动作是终止性的,此时用when引导过去时间状语从句,主句用过去进行时,从句用一般过去时。如:
When Mike got home, his father was watching TV.
2. 如果主句的动作是终止性的,从句的动作是延续性的,此时when和while都可以引导过去时间状语从句,主句用一般过去时,从句用过去进行时。如:
It suddenly began to rain when we were waiting for the bus.
While Jenny was having dinner, her father came back.
3. 如果主句和从句的动作在过去的某时刻或某段时间同时发生,而且动作都是延续性的,此时多用while引导过去时间状语从句,而且主句和从句都用过去进行时。如:
While my sister was sleeping, I was reading.

Step 4 Around the world
1. Flight safety
When you get onto a plane, the flight attendants make a detailed announcement about safety in the
plane. They start off by asking you to read the safety card and take note of the picture that shows how to sit forward in case of sudden movements or a crash. Then they point out to you where the exits are. These are usually at the back, the side and at the front of the aircraft. Then they tell you how to fit the oxygen masks over your mouth and nose. These automatically drop from the area above your seat. They also explain how to put on your life jacket which you can find under your seat. They also tell you that smoke alarms are fitted in the toilets and all mobile phones and other electronic devices must be switched off. Finally, they tell you to sit back and enjoy your flight!

In 2009, I had a bad car accident and got a spinal cord injury (脊髓损伤). I was at (1)_______ of losing my life at that time. Luckily, the doctors operated (动手术) on me quickly and gave me the right (2)_______. After I stayed in the hospital for some time, I (3)_______ home.
