Unit 2 She was thinking about her cat.
Step 1 Revision
Use the table to give a summary about the dialogue in Unit 1.

Step 2 Warming up
Ask the students to look at the picture in Activity 2 and say what they think is strange.
Step 3 Reading and vocabulary
1. Play the recording and ask the questions

2. Read the passage and show the new words and phrases to Ss.
3. Read the passage carefully, and complete the blanks.
4. Number the events in the order they happened in Activity 3.
a) Alice landed on some dry leaves.

d) A rabbit ran by.
e) Alice ran across the field after the rabbit.
5. Read the passage again and answer the questions.

Step 4 Language points
1. Once or twice she looked into her sister’s book.
Alice偶尔看看姐姐的书。
once or twice 偶尔; 一两次
twice adv. 两次; 两倍
表示次数时,once(一次)和twice(两次)需要特殊记忆;三次及三次以上的表达方法为:“基数词+ times”,基数词是几,就表示几次。如:three times三次;five times五次

too ... to ... 结构可以与not ... enough to ... 结构进行同义句转换。但需要注意的是,enough前的形容词或副词与too后的形容词或副词互为反义词。

while引导时间状语从句时,从句的谓语动词常常是延续性动词。

Tips:叙述故事发生的经过时,可用after, next, then, several minutes later 等表示时间的词语作为连接纽带,使故事情节连贯、脉络清晰。
Sample:
After Alice found a small key on a table, she opened a small door with it and saw a beautiful garden. Next, she found a bottle with the words “DRINK ME” on it. She drank from the bottle and became very small. Then she went through the small door and entered the beautiful garden.
