Sixteen years ago a boy gave me an important gift. It was a smile.
It was the early autumn of my first year at a middle school, and my old school was far away. As a result, no one knew who I was. I felt very lonely, and I was afraid to speak to anyone.
Every time I heard the other students talking and laughing, I felt my heart break. I couldn't talk with anyone about my problems.
Then one day, when my classmates were talking happily with their friends, I was sitting at my desk unhappily as usual. At that moment, a boy came in the classroom. I didn't know who he was. He passed by me and then turned back. He looked at me, with a warm smile.
At that time, I felt something bright and friendly in my heart. It made me feel happy and warm. That smile changed my life. I started to talk with other students and made friends. Day by day, I became closer to everyone in my class. The boy with the lucky smile has become my best friend now.
One day I asked him why he smiled at me, but he couldn't remember smiling at me!
It doesn't matter because all the dark days have gone. I believe that the world is what you think it is. If you think it is lonely, you might always be alone. So smile at the world and it will smile back.

Most kids like to sit in the front passenger seat. But in fact, a study about car accidents shows that it is the most dangerous seat in the car even if your car is new. So what's the safest places for kids to sit The answer is the back seat.
In Australia, everyone should wear a seatbelt(安全带) in the car. The study shows that wearing a seatbelt of the right size for you is the best way to be safe. Seatbelts should be made to fit the person who is going to use it, or they could let someone get hurt. Kids can get hurt in an adult seatbelt because they are small and the belt could come up round their necks or faces.
You can use special clips on a seatbelt if the seatbelt is too big for you. Any child under the age of 7 must wear a seatbelt. And a child under 7 mustn't sit in the front seat unless all the seats in the back of the car have been taken by the kids under 7.

Pop! Fresh popcorn is one of the most popular foods when people are watching a movie or a ball game. Popcorn is cheap, delicious and easy to make. Popcorn may just be the wonderful snack.
Scientists found popcorn is more than 5,600 years old. People popped the corn by putting it on red- hot stones near a fire. People crushed(压碎) the popcorn and then added water to make bread.
For a long time, American Indians popped corn on an open fire. At the first Thanksgiving dinner, American Indians shared this food with the Pilgrims and the Pilgrims found they loved popcorn. After they learned to make popcorn, they began to pour milk and sugar on it before eating it for breakfast.
In the 1880s, people began to use an early popcorn machine. Later, people put popcorn machines into small wagons so that they could sell popcorn in different places, such as parks and streets. However, people could not get enough of it!
Soon movie theaters began selling popcorn, too. This started the tradition of eating popcorn at the movies. At this time popcorn became more popular than ever. But for a short time, people began eating less popcorn. In the 1950s, television was still very new. Many people stayed at home to watch television instead of going to the movies. Few people had popcorn machines. Then microwave ovens' invention made it easy to make popcorn at home. Today Americans are eating more popcorn again— more than one billion pounds each year!
