Mathea Allansmith isn’t your typical grandmother. She’s the oldest woman in the world to have completed a marathon. She was 92 years 194 days old when she crossed the finish line at the 2022 Honolulu Marathon, setting the record for the oldest female to complete a marathon.
Mathea, now 94, of Koloa, Hawaii, USA, stays in shape all year round by running seven days a week, no matter what the weather is. Whether it rains or shines, she covers 36 miles every week, even when she’s on holiday. The retired doctor didn’t take up running until she was 46 years old — after a friend suggested running two miles per day.
“The Honolulu Marathon is my favorite marathon mainly because it doesn’t close the gate at a certain time, which allows even the slowest runner to finish the race,” she said. “It’s one of the best races. Fantastic registration (注册), set-up and management make it a joy to run the race.”
Mathea, who doesn’t allow her age to slow her down, thinks she is the happiest person when she’s on the road. She enjoys running for miles and waving and saying hello to the people she passes. To stay in shape, Mathea keeps a steady training routine (惯例). “I train all year round but increase the mileage 18 weeks before a marathon,” she said.
Mathea said it was her career as a doctor that allowed her to understand how her body and mind respond to diet and exercise. “I see the direct relation between moving and health,” she said.
“It is important to reduce stress rather than ignoring it without a plan on how to do so. Of course, exercise of any kind is a natural stress reducer.”
Mathea thought getting through the finish line and winning a Guinness World Record title was the excitement of her life. “My family completely surprised me after the 2022 Honolulu Marathon, in which I achieved the world record, by wearing matching T-shirts stating my achievements,” she said.
34. What do we know about Mathea from the first two paragraphs
A. She used to be in poor health.
B. She is the oldest to win a marathon.
C. She runs daily regardless of the weather.
D. She was encouraged by her patient to run.
35. Why is Mathea keen on the Honolulu Marathon
A. It gives winners the best awards.
B. It provides runners with quality service.
C. It has no time limit for runners to finish.
D. It allows runners to set a world record easily.
36. What led to Mathea’s understanding of the connection between moving and health
A. Her professional experience. B. Her training courses.
C. Her views on stress in life. D. Her hobby from young.
37. What message does Mathea’s story deliver
A. Practice makes perfect. B. Interest is the best teacher.
C. Age is no barrier to success. D. Ups and downs make one strong.

A 72-year-old Chinese retired physics professor becomes an Internet celebrity(网红). In her short videos, Wu Yuren often uses everyday objects like eggs and coins as props(道具)for her
experiments. In one video for example, when explaining cosmic rays in space. she grabbed a broom, ran her hand down the broomstick to the thin brush attached, to illustrate how the energy of the rays gradually weakens and disperses(分散). She also explained rocket launches by blowing up a balloon. These interesting science videos have attracted over 1 million followers, many calling her “science grandma”
It's said that Grandma Wu writes all her video scripts by herself, and she often works with young team members till late at night, just to plan each shoot down to the last detail. For some physics principles that are hard to present, she would discuss them with other professors to work out something easy for people to understand.
Many youngsters are greatly touched by Grandma Wu's sense of responsibility and mission to communicate physics ideas to the public, especially teenagers. Meanwhile, her lifestyle, embracing new technologies to maximize her value, inspires people in particular.

China has set new rules limiting the amount of time children can play online games. The rules limit children to just three hours of online game playing a week. That is one hour between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday most weeks.
Li Zhanguo has two children aged 4 and 8. Even though they do not have smart phones, they enjoy playing online games. Like many other parents, Li is happy with new government rules. But experts say it is unclear if such policies can help prevent addiction to online games. Children might just get addicted to social media instead. In the end, experts say, parents should be the ones to set limits and support good practices.
There has been a growing concern in China about gaming addiction among children. Government reports in 2018 found that about one in 10 Chinese children were addicted to the Internet. The new rules are part of an effort to prevent young people from spending too much time on unhealthy entertainment. That includes what officials call the “irrational fan culture”.
Under the new rules, the responsibility for making sure children play only three hours a day falls largely on Chinese gaming companies like NetEase and panies have set up real-name registration(登记,注册) systems to prevent young users from going past game time limits. They have used facial recognition technology to check their identities. And they have also
set up a program that permits people to report what is against the law. It is unclear what punishments gaming companies may face if they do not carry out the policies. And even if such policies are performed, it is also unclear whether they can prevent online addiction.
A specialist treating internet addiction expects about 20 percent of children will find ways to break the rules by borrowing accounts of their older relatives and find a way around facial recognition. In his opinion, short-video apps such as Douyin and TikTok are also very popular in China. They are not under the same restrictions(限制)as games.
42 .When can children play games according to the new rules
A. Between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Saturday.
B. Between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
C. Between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Friday.
D. Between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Thursday.
43.According to experts,_________.
A. the new rules can stop children’s addiction to social media
B. companies are more responsible for kids’ obeying the rules
C. parents play a greater part in limiting the time of online games
D. the new rules will help prevent children playing online games
44.What will children probably do to battle with the new rules
A. Design an advanced program.
B. Use facial recognition systems.
C. Borrow accounts of their older relatives.
D. Set up real-name registration systems.
45.Which of the following is a suitable title for the text
A. Rules Limiting Video Game Time.
B. Rules Limiting Short-video Apps.
C. Rules Banning Irrational Fan Culture.

四、七选五(共5题;每小题2分;满分10分)
Walking has been considered as one kind of rewarding exercise. For many people, daily walking offers massive and long-term physical and mental benefits. 46 A Stanford University study found that participants were more creative when walking as opposed to sitting.
47 You’ve probably heard the phrase “exercise your creativity”. Our creative mindset is stirred up by physical movement, which is exactly why walking with your dog, a friend, or alone feeds creative thinking.
But the scenery is almost as important as the sweat. Just by going outside, you are stepping out of your habitual surroundings and your comfort zone, which is necessary if you want to open your mind to new possibilities. You can walk through a tree-filled neighborhood. 48 Even when you walk down a busy street, you can’t help but get distracted by the sweet smells from a food cart or the child pointing to a building you haven’t even noticed before.
Walking outside develops our ability to collect new ideas and take in new sights, sounds, smells, and flavors. Shinrin-yoku, a common form of relaxation in Japan, suggests that being in the forest and walking among the trees there can lower your stress levels. 49 Research has shown that getting close to nature around your neighborhood or taking a break from multimedia increases performance on a creative problem-solving task.
So instead of setting a fitness goal, why not set a creativity goal that starts with walking outdoors 50 For example, you can turn off your phone and give yourself the chance to be present in the world, to hear conversations and natural sounds, and to notice the way people move and the way the sun reflects in a lake.
Walk not just for exercise. Walk for wonder.
A. Unfortunately, you often fail to do it.
B. Expose yourself more to your surroundings.
C. The movement during walking is obviously key.
D. Without enough energy, you cannot wonder or create.
E. But to receive the benefits, you do not have to live in a forest.
F. This habit, however, not only benefits well-being but also contributes to innovation.
G. Wandering around a park and observing people relaxing or birds singing is also a choice.

Though Simon knew his grandfather did not like anyone to touch his rare collections, he quietly entered the storeroom without his grandfather’s permission one night.
Once inside the room, Simon stood on a chair. He lifted the big box wherein his grandfather had kept many valuable watches bought from different countries he had visited. While getting down from the chair, Simon’s elbow(肘部) struck against the chair. When he tried his best to pull his arm out, the box slipped out of his hands and fell onto the floor. He started picking up the pieces of glass hurriedly. Simon thought, “My grandmother gifted the watch to my grandfather. This must be one of his most treasured possessions. How could I tell him that his favorite watch had broken He must be angry with me. If I do not tell him, he will not come to know about it.” Simon got nervous. His heart started beating faster. We have had a class meeting today on whether we should give money to beggars and we have different opinions.
Some believe that we should give money to beggars because some of them are old people, who can’t live on their own.Among them are also some students who have dropped out of school because their families are so poor. And we can also see some disabled people, who can
hardly make a living due to physical or mental inability.
On the other hand, many more students think we shouldn’t give them money because most of the beggars beg not because they are poor but because they want to make money more easily. They are not real beggars.Besides,to give money would encourage them to be lazy even if they have the ability to work.
In general,we should help people of the inferior group. But we should remain sensible when giving money.

Though still worried about himself being scolded, Simon finally gathered the courage to see his grandfather. He admitted his fault to his grandfather in a low voice. His grandfather said nothing and went to the storeroom. Simon kept standing with his head down. Having returned from the storeroom, his grandfather said, “I felt very angry when you had broken my precious watch that your grandmother gave to me on our first wedding anniversary. But don’t worry. It can be mended.” Simon felt relieved. His grandfather said in a soft voice, “It was brave enough of you to tell me about the broken watch. You knew that I would scold you, didn’t you ”
