It is reported that the world's first artificial(人造的) moon could be launched by 2020. China's space industry is preparing to put an artificial moon into orbit(轨道) over the city of Chengdu. The moon is expected to be launched from Xichang Satellite center in Sichuan Province.
The artificial moon will act as a nightlight. Similar to the real moon, it will have a kind of coating that can reflect sunlight back to the earth. And it may be eight times brighter than the one we' re used to. According to scientists, it could replace some streetlights in Chengdu and help save energy, but it won't light up the whole night sky. The artificial moon has a planned orbit of about 310 miles above the earth. That's much closer than the real moon, the orbit of which is about239,000 miles from our planet. The location and brightness of the“ moonlight” can be controlled to light up specific(特定的) areas. Live Science reports that little is known about the height, size and true brightness of the artificial moon. But all of them could influence whether the artificial moon is able to be seen clearly.
In scientists' opinion, if the project of launching the moon is successful, three more may be launched in 2022. The city of Chengdu could help save around 1.2 billion yuan in electricity every year if the moon is able to light up 31 square miles of the city.

A common topic of conversation for most kids in school goes like this:“ What is the tallest/ smallest/ fastest/ slowest … ”I think you know what I'm talking about.“ What is the tallest waterfall in the world ”I' ve been asked the question in class recently. To answer it, I searched for the answer and the story behind it.
The tallest waterfall is Angel Falls in Venezuela with a height of 979 metres. It is said that Jimmie Angel was the first Westerner who saw the falls.
Born in Missouri in 1899, Jimmi e Angel was an adventure lover with love for flying. In November, 1933, while flying alone in the canyons of Venezuela, he claimed(声称) to have seen a“ mile high waterfall” but not many people believed him at the time. In the spring of 1935, Angel asked three other explorers(探险家) to fly to the canyons to verify(证实) his claim and take pictures. One of the explorers Dennison wrote about their adventure and published it on National Geographic. He wrote,“‘ Now I will show you my waterfall!’ shouted Angel with glee!”
After that, Angel and Marie, his wife, went to the falls several times between 1935 and 1937. In 1937, Angel tried to land on top of the falls. But there was something wrong with his plane, so he had to walk for 1 1 days to get out of that area. That 11- day hike brought him worldwide fame and the falls were then named after Mr. Angle.
Although Angel got all the fame for discovering the falls, there were others who claimed the discovery of the falls. Sir Walter Raleigh claimed to have discovered the falls in 1594. In 1910 or 1912, Ernesto Sanchez La Cruz, a Venezuelan explorer, was said to have discovered the falls. Another one went to Aleksandrs Laime, a famous Latvian- born explorer.

I have spent almost a third of my life in China, living and working in this beautiful country. In a sense, China has been and is still my second home. But in those past years I had never been to Quzhou.
Some days ago, for the first time in my Chinese life, I stepped into the beautiful city of Quzhou. My impressions of Quzhou city were as I always thought: green countryside, rainy sky, wet air. That was what I imagined for years the south of China would be. When we finally arrived, I was impressed by the elegant(优雅的) city.
The next day we were taken to visit some places not far away from the city. I was not aware of the direction of our short trip, but when we arrived at Lanke mountain and got out of the car, I thought that we had been taken to a fairyland(仙境): the light rain over the green and thick plants, the silver y sky like a heavy blanket and the mystery(神秘) of this mountain made me feel like being part of a picture.
Jiulong Lake was our next step. The mystic atmosphere(气氛) of this place was so strong that I decided to watch the view standing at the top when I stepped into the small boat to sail upstream. Sometimes we were so close to the mountain that we could clearly see the red soil under the plants. I was thinking of the joy to be in a place like Jiulong Lake and how it would be to live among those hill for a while.
The final leg of the day's journey was a primary school. We were welcomed by the smiles on the faces of many young pioneers. The energy of the hundreds of kids made me feel younger for a while, so educated, so polite and so warm that I had no doubt about the future generations of Quzhou people. The people seem to me the best of Quzhou and they will remain in my memories forever.
