[考点2] 情态动词 can 及过去式 could的用法
一、can意为“会,能”, could为 can的过去式
1.肯定句结构：
主语+ can/ could +动词原形(+其他).
如: They can play basketball.
2.否定句结构：
主语+ can't/ can not / couldn't / could not +动词原形(+其他).
注意: can't是 can not 的缩略形式, couldn't是 could not的缩略形式。
如: I couldn't do kung fu then.
3.一般疑问句结构：
Can/ Could+主语+动词原形(+其他)
肯定回答: Yes,主语+ can/ could.
否定回答: No,主语+ can't/ couldn't.
注意: 答语中作主语的人称代词应根据问句中的主语作相应的变化。
如: —Can you skate —Yes,I can.
4.特殊疑问句结构: 特殊疑问词+ can / could +主语+动词原形(+其他)
该句型一般用肯定陈述句作答。
如: —What can you see in the picture 你能在图画中看到什么
—I can see some birds and two big trees. 我能看到一些鸟儿和两棵大树。
二、表示征求意见、请求许可
could比can更委婉、客气，是一种礼貌的说法，此时并不表示过去时态，答语用can，而不能用could。
如: —Could you tell me the way to the hospital 你能告诉我去医院的路吗
—Sorry, I can't. I'm new here. 不好意思，我不能。我是新来的。
