I was feeling down and had lost hope of playing basketball. 6 something changed the first day of high school. I made some friends who also 7 playing basketball. People from Great Britain brought the English language to North America in the 16th and 17th centuries. And in the past 400 years, there have been so many 1 in both places that now people can easily tell an English person from an American in the 2 he or she talks.
Many old words 3 in England but were kept in America. For example,400 years ago people in Great Britain got their water from something they 4 either“ aucet”,“ spigot”, or a“ tap”. All these words are still heard in different parts of America, but only“ tap” is 5 in England. Americans often make up new words or change old ones.“ Corn” is one kind of plant in America and 6 in England.
Also, over the last three centuries the English language has 7 thousands of new words for things that weren't 8 before. And often, American and English people used two 9 names for them. My neighbour is a doctor. He and his wife are some of the 1 people I have ever met. A few years ago, we started this kind of“ favor war” where one of us would do something kind for the other, such as 2 the driveway or building a shed, and next time the other would 3 to top it with another favor.
Yesterday morning there was about 2 or 3 feet of snow on the ground and I 4 he shoveled(铲) my driveway for me when I was out on a business trip last 5 . So I took out my shovel and took care of both our sidewalks and driveways because it was my turn to do a favor 6 . It took a while but I finished it with another favor.
That night I got a 7 on my door. It was my neighbour. He immediately shook my hand and thanked me for shoveling 8 driveway and sidewalk, so that he was able to get to work earlier and 9 a boy.
“ As soon as I started the car early this morning, a(n) 10 came through that a young boy in our neighbourhood was seriously ill. 11 , my partner and I were only about 2 minutes away, but the closest ambulance(救护车) 10 minutes,” added he.“A young boy got to live his life 12 you did me that favor earlier this morning.”
It wasn't too much 13 to shovel a driveway, but what I did got a young boy to see his family again, go back to school again and live his life again.
14 favor is too small. Even the smallest favor can make the biggest 15 . One favor will always be followed by another.

Like many parents, I enjoyed reading a bedtime story to my two sons each night before they went to bed. After the story was over, we would turn out the lights, and talked until they fell 1 .
One night after the lights were out, my 3- year- old son, Will, 2 me to tell them a story made up by myself, not one from a book. So I 3 told him a story about the first thing that came into my mind. But to my surprise, he 4 it so much that he asked me to do that the next night.
From then on, a story- telling tradition was 5 in our family. Ever since that night, they seemed not to be able to sleep without hearing one of my 6 stories. Of all the things I do for my 7 , my storytelling is what they love most. It has created a special bond(纽带) between us. And they find that their day isn't 8 without one of my stories, and so do I.
When I see how 9 my storytelling is in their lives, I come to realize how much our television and video- oriented(以视频为导向的) society has 10 to form the personal connections that storytelling brings. Before the 11 of television, computers and smart phones, a family's evening was built around storytelling. This oral tradition was 12 from fathers to sons, and many of the stories we have today came from this tradition until someone finally 13 them down.
Storytelling serves as a creative way to 14 for me. During the storytelling, I forget about all the trouble of the day and enjoy the 15 time I can spend with my children. I hope that other parents can get happiness from storytelling, too.

A zero- waste life is a lifestyle that hardly creates any rubbish. So a zero- waste theme store is about 1 people with a number of everyday, practical and pleasant zero- waste products to help them start on a one- stop, zero- waste life journey.
“ Zero waste” or“ danshari” was first 2 by a French woman Bea Johnson.“ Live a life and try not to create any rubbish; use different methods to protect the earth,” she said.
Yu Yuan, 27, is 3 attracted by this idea.
She and her boyfriend have lived in Beijing for many years. And earlier she used to be a customer without thinking a lot 4 she saw a video about“ zero waste”.
The 5 is about a family of four, and the rubbish they produce every year is placed in a jar.
After watching the video, Yu wanted to 6 this zero- waste lifestyle with her boyfriend.
Yu says that a zero- waste life 7 the 6R principle— Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Recycle and Rot(腐烂).
Over August— October when Yu followed the principle of zero waste 6R, she and her boyfriend Joe Harvey both 8 only two cans of rubbish.
Now, the couple have opened a small 9 called The Bulk House in Nanluoguxiang, Beijing, to support a zero- waste life.
At the store they use environmentally friendly products. For example, they use wood products to replace 10 ones and prepare cloth bags printed with zero- waste logos for customers. Most of the products sold in the store can be reused, and a small number of 11 which are not recyclable can degrade(分解). The store 12 has second- hand books and audio- visual CDS/DVDs.
For used toiletries( things like soap and toothpaste that are used for cleaning yourself) there is a company which accepts them, and the couple regularly mails their waste to it.
Yu says that those who were once not 13 in the zero- waste lifestyle have gradually changed because of curiosity. The zero- waste lifestyle, she adds, is for everyone.
“ It’s 14 us at our fingertips.” Yu expects some of her friends to 15 her on the road to zero waste. As the saying goes, many hands make light work.
