根据第一段“Ramirez Casta eda, a Colombian biologist, spends her time in the Amazon studying how snakes eat poisonous frogs without getting ill. Although her findings come in many shapes and sizes, she and her colleagues have struggled to get their biological discoveries out to the wider scientific community. With Spanish as her mother tongue, her research had to be translated into English to be published. That wasn’t always possible because of budget or time-and it means that some of her findings were never published.(Ramirez Casta eda是哥伦比亚的一位生物学家,她花时间在亚马逊研究蛇如何吃掉有毒的青蛙而不生病。尽管她的发现有多种形式和大小,但她和她的同事们一直在努力将他们的生物学发现推广到更广泛的科学界。由于她的母语是西班牙语,她的研究必须翻译成英语才能发表。由于预算或时间的原因,这并不总是可能的,这意味着她的一些发现从未发表过)”可知,语言障碍阻止了Casta eda的发现被更广泛地了解。故选D项。
【33题详解】
细节理解题,根据第五段“Of course, scientists can work with an English partner, or use a translator-but this ultimately strengthens the cycle of dependency on the global north, leading to inequality in international influence. The specific meanings of words can also pose a problem in translation. For example, it is difficult to find in English one single word to describe forest snakes and frogs in the work Castafieda does with indigenous (土著的) communities in the Amazon.(当然,科学家可以与英国伙伴合作,或者使用翻译,但这最终会加强对全球北方的依赖循环,导致国际影响力的不平等。单词的特定含义也会给翻译带来问题。例如,在Castafieda对亚马逊土著社区所做的工作中,很难用英语找到一个词来描述森林中的蛇和青蛙)”可知,科学研究中以英语为主导的结果是产生知识鸿沟。故选B项。
【34题详解】
推理判断题。根据第五段“For example, it is difficult to find in English one single word to describe forest snakes and frogs in the work Castafieda does with indigenous (土著的) communities in the Amazon.(例如,在Castafieda对亚马逊土著社区所做的工作中,很难用英语找到一个词来描述森林中的蛇和青蛙)”可知,作者以该词为例,旨在说明翻译一些科学研究中的文本存在挑战。
根据最后一段““So we’re losing observations for science, too, ” says Casta eda. “For me, it’s not possible to just have everything translated into English. We need multilingual (多语种的) science, and we need people that feel comfortable doing science in their own languages. It could be possible to switch to a world where, say, Chinese, English and Spanish are the three languages of science, just as English, French and German were the languages of science in the 19th century.”(“所以我们也在失去科学观测,”Casta eda说。“对我来说,不可能把所有东西都翻译成英语。我们需要多语言的科学,我们需要人们能够自如地用自己的语言从事科学研究。有可能切换到一个世界,比如汉语、英语和西班牙语是三种科学语言,就像英语、法语和德语是19世纪的科学语言一样。”)”可知,本段主要介绍一个潜在的解决方案。故选A项。

根据前文“We all want it... to accept and love ourselves.”(我们都想要……
根据上文“Do not follow the people who make you feel not-good-enough.”(不要跟随那些让你觉得自己不够好的人。) 后文“Are you hoping that eventually you will feel empowered because your life is better than theirs ”(你是否希望最终你会因为你的生活比他们的好而感到有力量 )以问题的形式提出询问你跟随其他人的动机。 选项中“follow them”与前文中“ follow the people ”相呼应,同时与后文形成并列,符合题意,故选E项。
根据空后的内容“We are often ashamed of our shortcomings, our mistakes and our failures. Remember, you are only human.”(不要对自己的缺点、错误、失败感到愧疚,我们都是人)提到不要对自己的缺点、错误、失败感到愧疚,因为我们都会时不时地犯错。
根据上文中的“List all of your accomplishments and achievements.”(列出你所有的成绩和成就。)
结合上文“Put into words why you feel unworthy, why you don’t feel good enough. Now, read these words back to yourself.”(用语言来表达为什么你觉得自己不值得,为什么你觉得自己不够好。 和下文的“Turn to a page in your journal to your list of strengths and achievements. See how fantastic you are ” (翻到你日记本上记下你的优点和成就的那页。

Many people fail to achieve ideal results even though they have strong interest in what they learn. The fact is that it can be quite demanding to have a better outcome without better learning habits.
Let’s take the class for example. As is known to all, it’s of vital importance to remain focused in class whether it is interesting or not. Some students, however, are always daydreaming, yawning or attracted by something else, thus contributing to the later time-consuming homework.
Forming better learning habit requires time, energy, determination and self-discipline. As for me,
making a plan for your study is beneficial, and the plan should be updated according to the progress of your study from time to time. Secondly, you are expected to make full use of the time in the class and don’t do anything irrelevant to the class.
Maybe it’s easier said than done, but please never give up and keep practicing. Only in this way can better results be brought about.
When it was finally time for Carl to sing, the music played on, and he froze. Facing such a large group of audience was a first in his whole life. Lowering his head, he stood in the middle of the stage, not knowing what to do. The pianist started the music again but still nothing came out. The entire audience stared at the little boy and whispered, hoping he would cheer up and act out his part, which made the situation worse. Then the pianist started over again. Then came a beautiful melody from the dead silence, low but clear and powerful.
Everyone turned to see who was singing, while I knew it was my brother. Surprised at the unexpected melody, Carl lifted his head slowly and when he encountered his father’s eyes, his eyes began to sparkle as well. After a while, he opened his mouth and began to sing along. With time going by, the little voice from somewhere deep down inside this little boy grew stronger and stronger, echoing and lingering in the hall. All people were immersed in the beautiful melody. When the show was over, thunderous applause exploded. Everyone cheered for this little boy’s brilliant performance and his efforts to overcome his fears.

W: Well, I'm gaining weight. Can you give me some advice
M: I suggest you eat some fruit, like apples and bananas. People believe they are good for our health and help us lose weight.
W: I see. Anyway, my doctor told me to eat some fresh vegetables.

W: Jason, could you tell us about your round-the-world trip
M: Sure. I started in England about two years ago, in a special boat. I'm trying to go around the world just using human power. That is, no wind and no motors.
W: Wow. That's interesting. Go ahead.
M: I crossed the Atlantic Ocean to the US in 111 days. And then I skated across the United States, to San Francisco.
W: That's a long way. How long did that take
M: Well, I thought it was only going to take three months, but it ended up taking a year.
W: How did you get to Hawaii
M: Well, I rowed the boat from San Francisco to Hawaii in 53 days.
W: That's a long time. What are your plans from here
M: I'm going to row a boat from Hawaii to Australia, and then bicycle through Australia, use another special boat up through Indonesia to Malaysia, and then use a bicycle up through Thailand, China, India, and all the way back through Europe.

W: Good evening, sir. Welcome to Hismile Hotel. How may I assist you
M: Yes, I'd like to check in, please.
W: Certainly, sir. Do you have a reservation
M: No, I don't. My flight has been delayed and I need to stay in the city overnight.
W: Just a minute, please. Let me check if there is a room available, sir .. Er, we do have a single room for you. I can offer you $175 per night, including breakfast.
M: That's very expensive. Could you give me any discount
W: I'm afraid not, sir. It's the peak season of the year. We are very busy this evening. All the other rooms have been booked.
M: OK. I'll take it.
W: Please pay S300 for an advanced deposit. We'll return the balance(结余,剩余) when you check out tomorrow.
M: OK. What time do I have to check out tomorrow
W: Our usual check-out time is 12 o'clock, sir, but with this rate you can have a late check-out until 2: 00 pm.
M: That's great. Thanks.
W: Here is your key card. Your room is on the 8th floor. I'll get someone to help you with your luggage.
M: Thank you.
W: Hope you enjoy your stay with us.

M: I finished my cooking course at the age of 21. I thought I was going to become a world-famous cook. I hoped people would travel from all over the world just to get at a taste of my food. But three months later, I found out I was a nobody. Since nobody was traveling to taste my food, I decided I should travel to taste theirs.
During my travel, I visited many different countries, such as Japan and France, where different kinds of food opened my eyes. I especially loved the experiences in Italy and China. When in Italy, I learned how to make pizzas and salads. We had long lazy lunches in the sun and evening meals where the conversation went on long into the night. In China, I loved the hot Sichuan food and enjoyed the delicious Beijing snacks. I also discovered the joy of making dumplings with good friends.
My years of travel came to an and all too quickly, but I have decided what I should do for the rest of my life.I want to bring the fantastic food of the world into my kitchen in New York.
